Very sleek, very edgy, very demure āØ
Code Black has just launched its 7th store on Flinders Lane, bringing a bold, sleek, and minimalist design to the heart of the city. The new space is bathed in black tones, giving it a cutting-edge, sophisticated vibe. Thereās a neon sign at the entrance that reads āMorning Bar,ā an invitation to come in for the perfect blend of coffee, cocktails, or a mix of both ā blurring the line between coffee shop and cocktail bar.
Featured: š - Seasonal mushrooms, whipped buffalo ricotta, crispy onions, chimmi churri [$25] š - Cured Ora salmon, fennel remoulade, beetroot, creme fraiche, horseradish [$29] š„© - Rare roast beef, cauliflower cream, pickled onions, mustard, watercress [$27] āļø - Velvet morning: 3056 espresso, vanilla custard blend, cream [$9] š - Cocomelon: Watermelon, apple, mint, coconut milk, 3056 espresso, cream [$10] āļø - Morning bar coco: 3056 cold filter, Rooibos, coconut water, cream [$10]
The menu features their signature house-made soda bread, a must-try specialty! We tried the top best 3 selling items and honestly, they were all incredible! My favourite was the cured ora salmon - so light and refreshing, while my friend loved the roast beef!
For the coffees, there were so many to choose from - from their signature house brews to unique coffee inspired drinks and even coffee inspired cocktails. With so many options, we decided to stick with their top three coffee-inspired drinks for this visit - Iāll work my way down the list another time and come back to try the Vegemite martini..
The drinks were also all so good! Both the Velvet Morning and Morning Bar Coco were reminiscent of a Mont Blanc, with a layer of cream on topāmeant to be sipped without mixing, allowing each flavour to unfold. The Cocomelon, on the other hand, was a delight - refreshing and sweet with a perfect blend of coffee. It was my favourite!
The space feels more like a cocktail lounge than a cafe, and the food and drinks are amazing - pop by and check them out for your next coffee...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreExtremely Disappointed and Traumatized ā Glass Found in Food I had a deeply disturbing and traumatic experience at Code Black Coffee Flinders Lane on November 3, 2024, around 11:20 a.m. While dining, I bit into a piece of glass hidden in my food, which caused a painful cut to my tongue. This was not only physically harmful, but has since triggered severe psychological distress ā including eating anxiety and symptoms of anorexia. I now find it extremely difficult to eat without fear or discomfort. When I reached out to the management, instead of a sincere apology or any sense of accountability, I was told: āWe do not admit liability.ā ā and was offered a $150 voucher, as if that would make up for the long-term emotional trauma I am now dealing with. This is not acceptable. Food safety is non-negotiable, and the lack of responsibility taken by this establishment is shocking. A place that serves food must be held to higher standards ā especially when they put customers at serious risk. I hope no one else has to go through what I experienced here. Think twice before dining at...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHad the batch brew. $6.10 for takeaway is expensive, but it seems like very good coffee. This particular one had some nice soft floral notes, with an almost chocolate+berries aftertaste. Zero bitterness and perfect sipping temperature. Only criticism is the lack of an espresso tasting board :)
REVIEW 2 ======== Time to coffe: 5m 45s Quite busy, an almost bar like atmosphere. Music was very much too loud for my taste, felt like I was at a nightclub. Some tastefyll jazz or classical imo would've been better given the morning crowd and such.
Ordered the 3 item coffee board. A shot, a long black, and a batch brew Good latte art, simple but elegant
Batch: PERFECT sipping temperature, very mild flavour, hints of tea on first mouth swirl, some lemon afterwards. Slightly acidic tone
Espresso; richer, little cold, begins earthy cholocale w/ hint of plum, vanilla hit w/ slight citrus, almost dark choc aftertaste? Quite acidic tone.
Latte; nuts starts, creamy milk choc after, no real discernable aftertaste due to the milky nature. Very...
