For lovers of Yum Cha, this venue is probably not for you. It wasn't for us either. Dined here on a Sunday morning at 1130. Don't expect trolleys being rushed around the place with 50 different choices available, because that simply won't happen. There is a set menu of 16 items, half of which could be argued are not yum cha offerings. It is "unlimited" for $64 per head. But that doesn't mean you can immediately order what you like. You must be served every one of the choices first, prior to ordering. Out of the 16, we found 3 were good, the chicken ribs, prawns and pork Shu Mai, and authentic prawn dumplings, although it is difficult to muck those up. 5 were fair, and 8 were awful. Broccoli was swimming in juice, braised pork was soft almost stewed, calamari was oily and not crisp, Peking duck - don't know what went wrong here, sauce was wrong. Servings were small, probably thinking this was a degustation menu. Then at the end of the hour the waitress came to take the order for anything else you wanted. Service was good, but difficult to get Chili oil by itself instead of mixed with soy sauce. Half the meals that came out were luke warm, obviously made in bulk and then sitting there for a waiter to bring them out. This doesn't happen with trolleys of course. $139 for two. Spent the same at Red Emperor in Chinatown a few weeks back and with 50 or more choices for unlimited yum cha, and that was 100% better. Hot food, chilli oil, continuous trolleys, yum cha at its best. David's was just an expensive lunch.

Visited on a Monday night with warm welcome to a calming low lit atmosphere. Wait staff weren't overly expert on the cuisine however were friendly, personable and extremely hospitable - ensuring we had plenty of warm water which was nice. Ordered an expansive potentially excessive range of meals, with my personal favorite the Peking Duck - super succulent and tasty and high contender to the best Peking Duck I've ever had (big call right?) and the recommended green onion noodle (simple yet delicious). Glazed Vinegar veal rib was also a standout but as we ordered a fair amount we had to take most of this dish away which no problems in doing so. Mixed feelings over the dessert in which we tried 3 of the 4 options, enjoyed the tea and chocolate cake however the pear tart was too much on the sweet end for us left us yearning for fresh cream. Beautiful plating and sweet partings, definitely recommend a visit!

Drinks were good. The dishes were good. Most servings are made for 2s. So our party of 3 had some extra early on. Now, why dock the one star? Well, if you're looking for authentic Dim Sum, maybe check somewhere else. Fried rice was mushy and a bit salty The Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings) had barely any soup in them and the skin was too thich. I had the Peking duck wrap and it was more wrap than duck. The wrap was a bit too thick for me as well. The Shrimp dumpling was good along with the Chinese broccoli. Pork siomai was ok. Not bad but not the best. Chicken rib was excellent, no need for the spicy mayo. So, if you're nearby, this is a good place if you can't head over to CBD. It's also a nice upscale dining place, good for a nice date or small gathering. Service is excellent.

I recently had the opportunity to dine at David's Yum Cha, a restaurant that prides itself on serving authentic Chinese cuisine. Unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired, as the food failed to live up to its reputation. I felt compelled to share my thoughts, as I believe it is essential for potential diners to have accurate expectations.

From the moment I entered the restaurant, I was greeted by a pleasant ambiance and attentive staff. However, it quickly became evident that the authenticity and flavor I had anticipated were sorely lacking. The dishes presented to us seemed to be a far cry from the traditional yum cha fare I was accustomed to.

The first letdown was the lack of genuine flavors. The taste of the food fell flat, failing to ignite the palate with the expected burst of savory goodness. It seemed as if the chef had taken shortcuts, compromising on quality in favor of mass production. The dishes felt uninspired and lacked the depth and complexity that defines authentic yum cha cuisine.

Moreover, the prices at Yum Cha were higher than what I would have expected for such disappointing fare. It became apparent that the establishment was prioritizing profit over the satisfaction of its customers. This realization was disheartening, as I had hoped to indulge in a truly remarkable dining experience that would justify the cost.

One aspect that could have greatly improved the overall experience was the inclusion of more steamed dishes. Yum Cha should have embraced the essence of traditional yum cha cuisine, which heavily features delicate and flavorful steamed offerings. The absence of these dishes deprived the menu of a crucial element and detracted from the authenticity that Yum Cha supposedly prides itself on.

During my recent visit to David's Yum Cha, I decided to try their highly anticipated Peking Duck dish. However, I was left unimpressed with the overall execution of this classic Chinese delicacy. Allow me to share my experience, highlighting the subpar sauce and haphazard wrapping.

To my disappointment, the sauce served with the Peking Duck failed to meet my expectations. It lacked the rich, flavorful blend of traditional ingredients that make this dish truly exceptional. The sauce seemed hastily prepared, with a lack of balance and complexity, leaving the overall taste rather lackluster. It was a missed opportunity to elevate the dish and complement the succulent duck.

The wrapping of the Peking Duck was far from ideal. The traditional method involves delicately wrapping the tender slices of duck with thin pancakes, creating a harmonious blend of flavors and textures. Unfortunately, this place execution fell short in this regard. The wraps althought was well assembled, the taste was fellshort . The lack of attention to detail to it's flavour undermined the overall and made it difficult to fully appreciate the dish.

While I appreciate the effort to offer Peking Duck on the menu, it is essential to maintain the integrity of this renowned dish. The sauce should be meticulously prepared, with a balance of sweet and savory notes that enhance the flavor of the duck. Additionally, the wrapping process should be executed with precision, ensuring that each bite offers a harmonious combination of textures and tastes.

My visit to David's Yum Cha left me feeling underwhelmed and dissatisfied. The lack of authenticity in the food, coupled with the disappointing flavors and inflated prices, made it evident that the establishment prioritizes quantity over quality. I believe that a stronger focus on traditional yum cha dishes, particularly steamed options, would greatly enhance the overall dining experience. Regrettably, I cannot recommend David's yum cha to those seeking an authentic yum cha experience at an...

Title: A Truly Disappointing Dining Experience

Rating: ⭐ (1 star)

I'm writing this review with a heavy heart, as our recent visit to this restaurant left us in utter disappointment, with our special occasion - a birthday - ruined by the subpar experience we had.

Firstly, the service was far from acceptable. Our server seemed disinterested and unresponsive. It felt like we were intruding rather than being welcomed guests. We were ignored for long periods, and when the staff did engage, their lack of professionalism was palpable. There was a distinct lack of the basic courtesy and respect one expects when dining out.

As for the cleanliness, it was downright appalling. The floors were sticky and evidently had not been cleaned for a while. It's disconcerting to think that an establishment serving food has such low standards of hygiene. This lack of cleanliness extended to the bathrooms, which were also in a dire state.

Adding to the already dismal environment, the rubbish bins located outside the restaurant were not just filled to the brim but overrun with rats. It was a horrifying sight that greeted us even before we stepped inside, certainly not the first impression any diner would appreciate.

It's distressing to think that our anticipated birthday celebration was tarnished by such a disheartening experience. Instead of a joyous occasion, we were left with a bitter taste that had nothing to do with the food.

In a world where dining out is as much about the experience as it is about the food, this restaurant failed on all accounts. I'd strongly advise anyone considering a visit to think twice, especially if you're planning a special occasion.

I hope this review serves as a wake-up call to the management. It's clear that immediate improvements are necessary in both the service and the cleanliness department. For now, unfortunately, we won't...

Friday30th ... Thank you! Braxton, the Manager from David's, who was most! professional with his recent communications towards me, re. my below review ...

... Yes, it's Lynda here - TwinSister of Monica, who posted a review previously ... ... And yes, it was I who had excitedly booked the YumCha lunch on Sat24thMay, for our 55th birthday ... ... I have read nothing!!! but fab! reviews of David's. So my expectations were maybe? unreasonably high??... ... It has pained me greatly to give our Birthday YumCha experience 2 out of 5 stars ... ... No complimentary glass of birthday bubbly upon our arrival, as Braxton had said would be noted with our 55th birthday! booking. Drinks offered upon arrival were tap or sparkling. We ordered both, with a glass of ice. Only tap arrived. Had to remind the young lady who took our water! requests for the sparkling & ice, and the wait for alcoholic glasses were a good 20mins, both! times ordered... ... The food: absolutely edible, but VERY! ordinary. Dumplings dumplings dumplings and buns buns buns - majority. "A" piece of PekingDuck, that did not have plum sauce? Think?? it was Soy??? And it was steamed? Certainly NOT roasted. And the duck was sadly a tad chewy ... Lastly, re. the food: for what you are served, the food is extremely small portions. It is NOT "Limitless". I am VERY aware this is YumCha, not an "all you can eat". But considering the serves of particular tastings are SO small, I was NOT expecting to "share" particular dishes... ... The lunch was a fair&reasonable 2 hour offering. I sooo! wanted to be out the door! on the 1hr mark! I had NOOO! interest in staying for the "gooey White Chocolate Dumplings". Nooo more Dumplings pleeease ... ... I was NOT expecting an overly personalised lunch. It's yumCha! But this was an extremely! pedestrian offering, for a $200...
