There's a Chinese saying "happy times pass fast" and without knowing it, we'd spent close to 4 hours in Melbourne Zoo despite the planned 3 hours here. Good thing that we had breakfast early or else it'd be late by the time we stepped out of the zoo. As usual, the small ones were begging for the tummy to be fed - and heading back to the CBD wasn't a good option so I decided to bring them for fail-proof food - pizza! I found his highly rated place less than 10 minutes drive and soon I dropped everyone in front of the restaurant while I struggled to find an available parking nearby. In the end I had to settle parking inside Woolworth's parking instead of risking being fined. Everything about this place was simple yet practical and functional. Bottles of wines were lined up at the counter to choose from.. the focus is on the pizza as well as mozzarella, salad and cured meat. ◾Salumi board - a selection of cured meats. It came with a choice of Italian Buffalo mozzarella, Australian Scamorza (smoked mozzarella) or Australian fior di latte. Opted for the former as I loved buffalo mozzarella and it didn't disappoint. ◾Radicchio salad with shaved fennel, orange, walnuts, DOP gorgonzola and balsamic. ◾pizza napoletana - San Marzano tomato, mozzarella, anchovies and Ligurian olives. Trust the Italians to make good pizzas. The crust was almost perfect with crusty on the outside, fluffy on the inside... Tomato sauce and mozzarella were perfect with anchovies giving it the savouriness balanced by the olives. Service was machine-like.. efficient and fast. The tiny weeny thing that I didn't like was the attitude. This place is run by Italians and instead of receiving the warmth Italian welcome, it felt cold from start until we left the premise. Don't get me wrong, the food and service fantastic.. almost faultless I'd say but they could be friendlier. Still I give them high ratings.

Pizza, cocktails and good vibes only! @doc_gastronomia is one of the top Italian places in Melbourne, and they really do meet all your expectations about this place, their food and service. Thanks a lot to @itson_lygon for the giveaway, I got to celebrate my husband’s birthday @doc_gastronomia Carlton beautifully. The food we had here: Burrata, the mozzarella was just too perfect, fresh and with the blend of olive oil, cherry tomatoes and basil leaves, it became even more irresistible. Must try, because of the best quality of cheese they caters! Tiger prawns pizza, perfect for something with a lil’ bit of spiciness, yet packed with whole lot of flavours, cheese, tiger prawns and that pizza base was simply perfect, crisp at the right places. Strongly recommended. Radicchio salad, we didn’t enjoy it that much, mainly because of a strong bitter after taste. San Margherita pizza, @doc_gastronomia is known in Melbourne for it’s classic Margherita pizza, it was just perfect, so addictive, tasty and divine. I’m definitely coming back for this pizza. Aperol spritz, such a classic Mojito DOC, super refreshing drink Baladin Cola, we loved it, must try, it’s so different from regular cola. Panna cotta of the day, we had a vanilla panna cotta with berry coulis, and amaretti biscuits, this was extremely mouthwatering and wasn’t too sweet yet was really tempting to eat. The service is impossibly super fast, led by a team of kind, cheerful and helpful staff and manager. Loved the ambiance, so chill, relaxing. The prices are very standard and reasonable and you’re bound to have a great time. So guys visit today @doc_gastronomia to have a memorable and an authentic Italian feast with friends and family. Moreover, this restaurant is a perfect spot for celebrating special occasions as well.

DOC has been a long term favourite of mine, always delivering high quality pizzas but I’m sorry DOC this time was just not it! I am so disappointed to see the prices in pizzas have been raised so significantly- now $31 for their San Daniele pizza which I do not mind paying the extra for but when the quality does not reflect the price point that is when I find issues. The pizza base itself was soggy and the toppings cold, the tomato base was underwhelming and there was no WOW factor and I seriously normally dream of this pizza. Luckily the soppressa saved the day and was absolutely delicious! The porcini was also yum but again a hefty $31. Usually I find myself stuffed after one of their pizzas but a few of us agreed we didn’t feel as full as we usually would. We paired the pizzas with the rucola salad featuring Rocket, pear, honey & pecorino cheese. The honey was yum and balanced perfectly with the pizzas however again $19 for some rocket, honey and pear chucked together is not where it’s at. The service was mediocre and chaotic and the restaurant is freaking loud. We were sat right at the door where the draft kept entering and it was freezing on a winter night. Unfortunately I can’t see myself wanting to run back in a hurry. I hope this is a once off and that I can somehow forgive them in the future and return. However rn I feel like my fave pizza place has broken up with me 😂

Overpriced and quite restricted. Pizzas were quite nice but there's better value around the area. There's also another branch of DOC round the corner, one that did pasta, but it was a shame that not all diners could be happy at the same time: we had to choose EITHER pizza or pasta and pick the venue accordingly. Being the one who didn't want pizza I fancied a cheese board after reading the descriptions of all the cheese types on the back of the menu but it turned out that my options were restricted: either 3 types of mozzarella for $31, or 3 types of pecorino and accompaniments for $18 from the dolci menu. (Not certain why we couldn't have a variety of cheeses rather than just one). I opted for the latter and was positively underwhelmed. It was cheese and the driest biscuits I'd ever encountered. No fruit or quince/pear paste or dried apricots. I asked the waiter who was surprised I was so unimpressed by the "accompaniments". They really might as well advertise it as "cheese and biscuits." The staff were okay and reasonably efficient but not particularly outstanding. Choose something else in Carlton, there is plenty of choice around. I won't be returning here nor will I recommend it.

I had high expectations given my past experience, but unfortunately, my experience fell short this time. • Mozzarella Cheese: One of the major disappointments was the mozzarella cheese on the pizza. It lacked the desirable stretchy quality and didn’t deliver much flavor, making the overall pizza experience rather bland. • Pork Sausage: failed to impress. It lacked the rich, dry-aged fragrance that one would expect from a quality sausage, resulting in a rather ordinary taste. • Burrata: While I often enjoy burrata, the one here was notably overpriced for the portion and quality provided. • Tiramisu: The only saving grace of the meal was the tiramisu. It was well-executed with a balanced flavor and delightful texture. The Service: The service left a lot to be desired. A particular incident involving the manager (or possibly a waiter) was quite off-putting. As the next table’s allotted dining time was nearing its end, he insisted they to finish asap, leaving the receipt onto their table and placing the POS machine down in a hasty manner. However the waitress served us was really nice and polite! I used to like DOC a lot. But I guess wouldn’t visit it anytime soon.

I came with high expectations but unfortunately the pizzas didn’t make the mark. The ambience was casual, and can get loud on the first floor, so do go to the second floor if you prefer a quieter meal. The servers were not particularly attentive, we had to spend quite some effort to wave them down during our meal for getting additional drinks. We tried the pizza Salsiccia and pizza porcini. Both were white pizzas and didn’t have enough sauce, especially the pizza Salsiccia. I did like the house made sausage on pizza Salsiccia although the broccolini cream needed more salt and was abit dry. Surprisingly the cheese was quite bland, considering they paid a lot of effort to the source of cheese and meats (from their long page of descriptions on the back of menu). Porcini pizza didn’t have much truffle flavor, and the mushrooms were abit slimy, though I did prefer the porcini pizza between the two. I did not enjoy the Baladin soda - both ginger and cola flavor. Too sweet and had some odd herbal aftertaste. The ginger had an aftertaste like Prosecco, so good for those who enjoy that drink.
