I recently visited Don Don, and it was actually my first time eating Japanese food (beyond sushi)—and I absolutely loved it! The menu had a great variety: fried dishes, chicken, rice, and more. The portions were generous, and the prices were very affordable for the amount and quality of food we received. We even ordered extra to take away because we enjoyed it so much. One interesting cultural detail for me was that the rice was served without salt. In my Colombian culture, we usually season our rice, so at first it felt a bit unusual. But in the end, it actually worked really well with the rest of the dish—it balanced the flavors nicely and wasn’t unpleasant at all. The restaurant was cozy and comfortable, and we ended up staying there for about three hours, chatting and relaxing with friends. We tried several dishes, and everyone left full and satisfied with both the flavor and the experience. 🔸 In summary: For a first experience with Japanese cuisine, this place was perfect. Delicious food, great value, and a relaxed atmosphere. I’d definitely go back!

First time I ate Don Don was back in year 2000. That time, Don Don still at Swanston St. Always a long que when it come to lunch time where student, and worker are queing to have yummy food with affordable price $ 8 (if not mistaken). Now, the Don Don Box is almost $ 15. It is still afforable compare to others food in the city where majority price is already $ 17 $ 18. Even it is $ 15, the portion is generous and still taste so good. It is a must eat place when you are in Melbourne CBD. It is located in Pegasus Hotel.

Where finding a good portioned lunch under $15 is near impossible these days, in comes Don don. After all these years from poor Uni student life to now, this place still delivers the same tasty meals. With very friendly and accomodating staff - it’s a surprise this place isn’t busier. However it might be due to the lack of signage as it uses the Pegasus Apart’Hotel dining area so head in for some of the best value Japanese dishes that the Don don name is known for.

I had one of the worst experiences ever at this place. I ordered spring rolls, fried chicken, and a Don Don box, and not long after eating, I ended up with serious food poisoning. I was so unwell that I had to see a doctor, who prescribed me medication and gave me medical papers confirming I was unfit to work.

The next day, I went back to the restaurant to show them the doctor’s papers. The staff member gave me a very weak and unconvincing “sorry”, but it was clear they didn’t take it seriously at all. No real concern, no accountability.

Food safety and proper customer care clearly mean nothing here. I will never return, and I strongly advise others to avoid this place if you value...

We were staying at the Pegasus hotel and thought this was the house dining, which it wasn’t. We ordered two bento boxes that were chicken and beef. It was inedible. The beef was mostly fat, tasteless. It was as if the meat and rice were all just microwaved. The rest of the box consisted of a slice of apple and a slice of orange with tofu, lettuce and 2 slices of cucumber. I would definitely NOT recommend this place. I would rather go hungry than eat here. I did tell the female assistant who did not even...
