Dumpling Bar Hawthorn — Restaurant in Melbourne

I genuinely can not believe how terrible this experience was. There is not a single redeeming quality about this place. The music is weird, the atmosphere is non-existent, the staff member was completely incompetent spending most of the time on the phone, the toilet was literally just the apartment upstairs, walking passed the kitchen and lounge room to get in, and that's before you even get to the food. And boy the food is really something. Everything is cooked within an inch of its life. The worst dumplings I've ever had, frozen dumplings would be better quality. The 'chilli wonton pork soup' is quite literally overcooked dumplings falling to bits in WATER with some coriander floating on top. We ordered 5 items, and the first 3 came out within a reasonable time before she went back to being in her phone. We tried to flavour our food with the soy sauce that smelled like cat food, which clearly hadn't been replaced or changed in a very long time, if I get sick I'm suing.

We asked for the rest of the food we ordered (which you mark with a pen onto a laminated menu) to which she said "oh sorry I didn't see the other two items" whilst showing me the clearly marked menu I just gave her 30 minutes prior. I told her not to bother and paid the bill and left, which was $50. There was literally no one else in the venue which should have been the first hint. I would give it zero stars if I could, 1 star is generous.

Ordered four dishes, waited 20 minutes before being told what we ordered was not available so we ordered something else. Waited 40 minutes until one dish finally came out, then at least a ten minute gap between each one dish arriving leaving the meal feeling disjointed.

Fried rice was swimming in oil and left a terrible coating in the mouth. Frozen cubed vegetables tasted like freezer.

the salt and pepper eggplant was 70% potato with a few tiny bits of eggplant, 25 dollars for this, dishonest and a rip off, and it was also bathing in oil there was a coating at least a cm thick on the bottom of the bowl. Terrible coating and feeling in the mouth and all tasted burnt.

The restruant was small, and silent, zero music or atmosphere, just the server staring at you and feels like she is listening to your conversation.

Writing this at 3am with a bad stomach ache.

I eat Asian food at least twice a week in hawthorn, this is one of the worst...

The customer service was outstanding; the staff were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They guided us through the options and made excellent recommendations.

Now, let's talk about the food. The dumplings were undoubtedly the highlight of the meal. Both the fried pork and steamed pork and shrimp dumplings were freshly made and bursting with flavor. Each bite was a delight, and it was evident that they were crafted with care and expertise.

In addition to the dumplings, we also tried the big plate chicken on rice, and it did not disappoint. The chicken was tender, and the sauce was rich and savory, perfectly complementing the fluffy rice.
