HS CAKES FOOTSCRAY — Restaurant in Melbourne

I occasionally buy Sponge Cakes with Durian, Tarrot and Coffee fillings at HS Footscray either for family or when I visit friends for party or for lunch & dinner. Their cakes are so soft and fluffy and not too sweet. I like eating them very much.

However, on Tuesday, Sept 18th when I re-visited to buy two Sponge Cake with Durian and Coffee fillings. It all changed my mind of returning to buy cakes there. When I arrived, the Male Owner was serving a female customer therefore, I was standing there waited about ten minutes before he actually acknowledged my presence after this female customer left.

He was writing up an order for this female customer by showing the cakes catalogue. Finally, this female customer had chosen a cake. He took money deposit and gave her back some change and then written Chinese in the receipt front and bach then handed over to this female customer, then she left the store.

I was then said Hi to him and expressed that I am coming to pick up two Sponge Cakes (Durian & Coffee filling) which I ordered in the morning. He then asked me to wait as he said he will go to prepare the cakes. As there was a clear glass window, so I was able to see through clearly of what he was doing. There was also a Female worker at the back as well. I saw he took two sponge cake with his bare hands without wearing any gloves. He started cutting the sponge cakes into third and then prepared the filling paste to spread into the Sponge Cakes. I ordered these two cake for a party therefore I had to buy them but said to myself I will never return to this Cake Shop to buy anything else as obviously the hygiene is not carefully considered here. Handling money then cutting cakes with his bare hands is quite disgusting and put you off of eating the cakes. I would question their hygiene if it meets foods standard handling procedure as they don't wear...

DO NOT ORDER CAKE HERE!!! This is the worst cake we've had by far!! 75 bucks gone into waste! Ordered purple taro cake and came out white. Worst of all the vanilla flavoured icing did not taste like vanilla at all. PLEASE NOTE IT IS NOT THE AMOUNT OF TARO ADDED TO THE CAKE. IT IS THE TASTE ITSELF AND THE COMBINATION OF CREAM, TARO AND ICING. IT DOESN'T MATCH AT ALL. Taro cake with vanilla icing is a big joke! No one literally ate the cake. I've asked for refund but owner refused, he claimed not fair on their part. What about the customer who spent for nothing? How is that fair? I was told to bring the cake to the shop so he can taste it but will not refund. What a big joke and waste of people's time! Now from the reply below they were more than happy to give me refund. I have uploaded the messages about refusal to refund so he couldn't deny. I would not order from this shop if I were you. When I went to pick up my cake the lady who was picking up the same time was asked to wait for 2 hours despite them confirming twice on SMS came can be picked up at 1130. Had the pandan durian cake. Was surprised it came as 2 triangular cream filled sponge sandwiches rather than the roll. The sponge was very dry and the pandan flavour undetectable. The balance of durian and cream to the rest was unbalanced and overpowering probably to attempt to make up for the dry sponge. It was "good" but not as perfect as the moist durian swiss rolls at A1 cakes in Sydney's Cabramatta. If you are a real foodie and fussy about food the difference by comparison is pretty stark....especially if durian and cake is your thing like it is mine! The cake gets 3 stars the service and the lady get one. I'd take my business elsewhere unless HS has the monopoly on durian cakes...
