ORDERED: 🌮 Japanese taco: crispy nori taco, tomato, red onion, rice, herbs and flavoured mayo with Salmon ($18.00) 🍗 Cumin glazed lamb ribs: Lamb ribs coated in a thick Asian BBQ sauce & cumin served with herb salad ($19.00) 🐷 Ms Sue Pork Belly: Succulent, bite-sized pieces of pork covered in a salty, sweet chilli glaze, bean sprouts, cabbage and herbs ($25.00)

🍝 Mie Goreng Noodles: wok tossed egg noodles, red & white cabbage, carrot, egg, spring onion & MSSUE special sauce with chicken ($18.00)

($7.50) 🍚 Steamed Jasmine Rice ($4.00)

REVIEW: For our table of 5, this was enough food noting we had double servings of some dishes. We spent roughly $52pp and had a great feed with lots of variety!

Favourite foods would be the Mie Goreng Noodles, as well as the curry and roti bread combo. The Mie Goreng would be fine without the chicken - and would recommend it without chicken because it was a little dry - as there's a smoky flavour to the noodles. Al dente as well, it has strong soy flavouring so is incredibly fun to eat. It can stand alone as a dish quite easily. The roti breads were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. It was great to also eat it and alternate between the heaviness of the massman curry, to the sweetness of the barramundi yellow curry. Love variety!

My least favourite was the Japanese taco. The nori wasn't crispy and it wasn't floured on both sides. Perhaps it's unfair, but the golden standard is still Mr Miyagi's tacos. Mr Miyagi's tacos have a perfect balance of toppings, and the salmon is also reasonably better. Unlucky. Would avoid this if you weren't interested.

The reason why it's not a 5 is because the menu isn't quite up to date. They ran out of green mango so we had papaya instead, while we also had to miss out on dessert because they were no longer doing Golden Gaytime Boba Baos, due to having an issue with finding a supplier.

It's a good environment and a comfortable place to catch up with friends. Didn't find that they put any time restrictions on us, but it's probably because we came on a...

Overall close to the worst dining experiences I've had in Melbourne at Ms Sue, there are so many better Asian inspired restaurants and eateries in Melbourne.

Dining on a Wednesday night with my partner we ordered the feed me menu which included 5 dishes to share. Pork Belly and Soft shell crab Bao's for starters. While the pork belly was cooked well, the Bao was nothing to write home about. The Pork belly share was quite small (about half the size of what you usually receive at a restaurant) and what was supposed to be a chilli glaze was distinctly siracha chilli sauce.

The "Larger" (as described on the menu) dishes were anything but larger. We ordered Beef Massaman curry and Barramundi Yellow curry. What came out was one small bowl of at most 50g of so called braised meat in it, no potatoes as described on the menu. Beef curry was extremely salty when spoken to waiter, they took it back and offered to be re-made. Now what came back was same curry with added coconut cream to mellow the amount of salt, waiter did mention that this is bottom of the curry and has been simmering all day hence its little salty. I was amazed by the explanation. Thankfully Barramundi curry was only edible main served, fish was cook well and yellow curry had a lot of flavour and depth.

Given it was 5 course menu we had ordered some Tom Yum noodles; and wow (not in a good way) the bill came at the table before the noodles (which never made to table) and told that they are closing early tonight at 9, when asked for my noodles unfortunately they had missed that from order Chefs have already left for the night. I was given 10% discount on entire menu for the stuff up in Massaman curry which was left on table un-touched after being re-done and no tom yum noodles. So I paid 90% of my bill for 40% food.

The only saving grace was the cocktails and beer the service was at level one would expect, but you don't go to restaurant for the drinks you go there for the food.

Will not be never heading back to this place. I think we'll stick to the Chin Chins, Coda's and Supernormals of the world - they all set a high standard and stick to it.

Update 10 Nov 22: I am surprised that owners have not attepmted to provide any update on reviews yet provide regular on people who have had good experience. Clearly shows the level of committment in improving...

High expectations - did not deliver. I've been wanting to visit this place since it opened, it looks great - cool wall art, menu that could rival Chin Chins and great wine/drinks list.

We visited on a Wednesday night and were really disappointed. We sat down, ordered drinks, went to order the kingfish sashimi and ceviche only to be told they had run out (it was 6pm). I honestly don't think we would have gone there if we knew they were out of this and think they should have told us this at the start before we ordered drinks. We decided to stay and give it a go in the end, so we had the zucchini chips (best thing we got), lamb ribs, pork belly, soft shell crab & mee-goreng. Lamb ribs - way too fatty, no meat at all on them just like eating fat with sauce on them Pork belly - overcooked, dry and again just like eating inedible meat with sauce on Soft shell crab - the batter was dense and crab had been fried for too long, the sauce with this was also thick, very very peppery and gave no relief to the denseness of the crab, all on a bed of rice. No sourness to cut the pepper - too over powering.

So as the restaurant is new, i gave some feedback which was well received and they offered to give us another starter or dessert on the house. With some negotiation, they offered to remove one starter from the bill, despite the poor performance overall.

The Mee-goreng came - too sweet, no sambal, no chilli - really disappointing again. When we complained, they took the feedback on and told us that there was a trainee chef on tonight so the standard of the food didn't reflect what it was like usually - SO WHY DO YOU, EXPECT US, TO PAY FULL PRICE THEN?

The bill came up to $79 and we had all the zucchini chips, two drinks and didn't really eat the rest of the items - it felt like daylight robbery.

Would not recommend, food is missing the spark and could have done a lot more from a customer service perspective to make things better. Given 1 star for the presentation, drinks, music...

@_ms.sue 📍Footscray ✔️ Salmon Ceviche ➖ Calamari Papaya Salad ✔️ Salmon Burrito ➖ Pad Thai ✔️ Massaman Curry ✔️Roti Nestled in Footscray, Ms Sue is a beloved Asian Fusion restaurant that adds a contemporary twist to classics, all while paying homage to the owner’s mother. 🥢 The cocktails were a highlight, both the Pandan Negroni and Expre-sue Martini bursting with flavor and packing a punch. For larger groups of 6 or more, the Feed Me menu at $58pp offers a banquet-style experience with 5 chosen dishes. However, for a party of 2, the A La Carte option proves to be better value. 😜 A star on the menu, the Salmon Ceviche, boasted tangy and refreshing notes, though the salmon’s flavor could have shone a tad more. The Calamari Papaya Salad carried the same flavours, featuring tender calamari. The Salmon Burrito, resembling a deep-fried sushi roll, was a hit. While the Pad Thai showcased a classic profile, regrettably our plate lacked the promised prawns. 🥺 Diving into the Massaman Curry, we were greeted by bold flavors harmonising with the tender potato and lean beef. However, the beef pieces were somewhat smaller than the norm. The Roti impressed with its flakiness and airy texture, although the satay sauce disappointed. It’s worth suggesting that the restaurant adopt a more staggered approach to serving dishes, as the current “all at once” method seemed to overwhelm. The staff, while friendly, could fine-tune attentiveness to enhance the dining experience. It’s worth noting that the small size of the venue can lead to elevated noise levels, particularly when there are group gatherings. 👯 All in all, Ms Sue presents a dependable and commendable choice in Footscray, particularly when dining with a group—guaranteed to please a variety of palates. Notably, they offer Bottomless Brunch experience priced at $75pp, adding yet another dimension to their offerings. ⭐️ 3.4/5 💸 $$

Located opposite Footscray market. Always busy so make sure to make a booking ahead of time. We’re ordered: Zucchini chips Lamb ribs Dry Tom yum noodles Salmon tacos Barramundi yellow curry Thai larb Roti bread Pork belly 1. I booked using ‘The fork’ app and it shows that the table will be booked for 1.5 hrs at 6:15 for 4 people. 2. Upon arriving we were told to check in and that our table was ours for an hour and a half. 3. Upon taking our drink order we were told again by another staff that it’s booked until 7:45. We ordered a few entrees while we were waiting on 1 more person to arrive. 4. The entrees arrived and our friend arrived a couple of minutes later. She sat down and looked at the drinks menu. She made a drink order and we were reminded again. 5. When the drink arrived. We still hadn’t ordered our mains yet. They reminded us as to make sure the kitchen had enough time to make the food for us and for us to enjoy it at our table. Food arrives “Just letting you girls know you have the table until 7:45 as we have a booking straight after”. They should have clues to avoid the constant reminders. We were out by 7:30. The Larb was a little dry but had a nice wok flavour. Possible needs a little more fat. The tomyum noodles could be served with a wedge of lemon. The salmon taco had a really nice crispy shell. It wasn’t packed in like Mr Miyagi. The salmon could be cut a little chunkier. Their cocktails options are nice. The serving of the salad with the pork belly could be a bit more as there was a lot of sauce. The roti had a few parts extra charred. Would recommend getting a bowl of rice in future to soak up with the sauce.
