Confused with all the high ratings. Maybe I'm missing sth here or the people reviewing don't know any better as not a lot to compare with in Rosebud. I'm someone who lives in west Melbourne, work in the city and often go out to eat with family and friends from north, south and easter suburbs. Heck, even my husband is Chinese and I'm fully aware of different Chinese restaurants around. So I'll try to give my best objective review given my experiences with Chinese food from around Melbourne and regional.
We came here due to the raving reviews and Avg 4.5 stars. However, met with terribly expensive prices for smaller than avg portions $30-$35 per serve for simple stir fry chicken dishes. Then higher for duck or steak or seafood $36-$40 (which is fair) but again the portions are pitiful we saw at another table next to us. Easily $100+ per person when you also account for side dishes, rice bowls, drinks and dessert...
DO NOT trust the main menu uploaded here by the restaurant (only from a month ago). The real prices charged when at the restaurant are easily $10-15 higher per dish - see the menu photo from another reviewer (from a week ago).
Both my friend and my phone died from long road trip in the day and unfortunately couldn't take any photos -really wished we had some photos to show our pitiful mongolian beef that couldn't even fill the sizzling plate and had to be spread out a thin layer to look like plate is full. We also had the mixed seafood but it was mainly carrot and tinned corn, 2 prawns!!! You can see from other reviewers photos the servings of main ingredients themselves are very little n the plates are full of garnish like radish and lettuce underneath and on the sides.
The serving plates are small plates (size is what people use for their eating plates), not your typical Asian restaurant main course plates. That's fine if taste made up for it but the food wasn't especially fantastic taste either so doubly disappointed.
Service was ok, very slow but understandably they were very busy given the holiday season. We waited a bit at the counter to be seated. There was a caucasian female staff who was drying glasses right in front of us but didn't greet us and ignored us the whole time. We had just finished our road trip and was quite happy and smiling said "Hi, how's it going?" and she full ignored us. It was so strange as she was facing us not to the side or behind where she couldn't have seen us there. That instantly gave us bad vibes. If we didn't move pass the front desk and full waved and flag down an Asian staff to ask for a table we would hv waited at the front for a good 10 min without any acknowledgement.
Overall left very disappointed, ripped off, still hungry and not sad to say won't come back. I hope my honest review help some unsuspecting people save their wallet and their stomach.
Next time, people if you want reasonably priced Chinese food, just drive a bit further 20min to Keysborough or Springvale. Even the city has great restaurants without this pricing and portion. Again, we are happy to pay good money for great food but inflation is no longer a good enough excuse to jack up your prices and reduce serving size. That's just simple dishonesty...
Read moreDonât ever do a phone order here. Itâs a completely chaotic and deceptively run process IMO and a total waste of time, frankly. So, I go and pick up the food that Iâve ordered 20 minutes before. A bloke does a walk in order at the front counter just before I ask if mineâs ready. Not ready they say. I ask several more times in the next 15 minutes. Not ready they say. Numbers of takeaway orders come out. No names are ever called out so no one ever knows who it belongs to. The food is just put to the side and you have to ask continually if itâs yours. I make the mistake of stopping asking the three staff members about mine, mistakenly thinking that Iâve been asking so much that theyâll actually remember my name and just give our food to me when it eventually comes out. This was a bad mistake. It all turned ugly when the bloke who ordered at the counter 20 minutes after me got his before mine and I then find when I enquire again that a rapidly cooling takeaway bag of food off to the side is actually mine. No apology is forthcoming for not telling me that our food was ready despite all the waiting. Just a snappy enquiry about whether Iâd paid, which they had made me do already as soon as I first asked after my food the first time - about 20 minutes ago. This is just seriously poor crappy service. My impression is this - that they donât start cooking phone order food until youâre actually there - so itâs completely pointless doing a phone order. Thatâs why the walk in bloke got his first. His order actually went in first.
I canât say it enough. The service here is poor. It was unfriendly, haphazard and uncaring. It was the complete opposite of good customer service.
Now to the food. The Seafood Supreme, advertised as a chefâs speciality, was very bland. It had little flavour. It was an ordinary dish. The Mongolian beef with vegetables was nice as was the special fried rice.
I wouldnât ever come here again though because of the poor service and the...
Read moreAs locals we have been going to Jade Court for many many years and were happy with the news of new owners and the lovely renovations they have done. All very positive until last night when we had the worst experience of bad management. We placed our order and happily waited for our meals to arrive. The first meal that came out was served by a young guy who couldnât even tell us what the meal was let alone who it was for (no fault of his I am sure, but clearly a reflection of no basic training). All but the last meal came out slowly and in a staggered way but then there was at least a 10 minute wait for the last meal to be served despite asking a couple of times for an update on how long we would have to wait. By then, given that we all wanted to eat together, our meals were only lukewarm and therefore not very appetizing. The dine in service wasnât overly busy but together with a very busy takeaway service management obviously struggled to manage to keep up with the service. The excuse we were given was that management had just introduced a new computerised ordering system. But we all know that is not the done thing to do on the eve of a peak tourist season. As of the 1st November the price of the meals that we ordered have all increased quite substantially reflecting fine dining prices and a service that we did not receive. I think it is time to look for another venue where prices match the service that is provided. Jade...
