REVIEW: Bless an establishment that doesn't charge card surcharges! š
⤠Our favourite dish at Lagoon Dining was their raw beef from the entrees. A perfect medley of textures (crunchiness from the tsubu arare, softness from the raw beef) and flavours (tanginess from the sambal vinaigrette, creaminess from the creme fraiche) that worked HARD to deliver a dish that was interesting, unique and light on the palate. We'd get two of these next time. š¤ š We also appreciated how the Salted fish fried rice, a staple at Vietnamese restaurants, wasn't overly salty. It still imparted the necessary flavours, but also allowed us to enjoy the sweetness of the charcoal roasted char siu.
š§” Service was outstanding. We happened to meet one of the owners, who passionately explained the menu and gave some context behind the dishes that couldn't leave the menu, as well as his favourites (all). 𤣠With dishes well timed one after the other, we were continuously being introduced to our next item but at a pace that didn't drop even as the restaurant was filled up. š They were also lovely enough to keep re-filling the tea, so definitely got more than $5 worth.

STIR FRIED RICE DROP NOODLES, XINJIANG SPICED BEEF, CABBAGE, GREEN CHILLI Not your average stringy noodles, these drop noodles variant is a dry fried wok dish that hits the spot for something slightly spicy, slightly sweet and vinegary (and wok hei, literally translated to breath of the wok, smoky).
WHITE CUT CHICKEN, PRAWN AND LAP CHEONG MOUSSE, SHELLFISH OIL A modern take on white hainanese steamed chicken dish. The shellfish oil brings out the subtle flavours of the filling. I could eat this everyday.
STEAMED HUMPTY DOO BARRAMUNDI, SAMBAL BELACAN, FISH FLOSS If you need a sign to order fish, this is it! The fish floss is a wonderful textural top layer, like icing to cake. The fillet is generous piece of tender goodness, covered in a slightly spicy sambal. Not overcooked, just right. I recommend eating this with steamed white rice.
WOK TOSSED SNOW PEA TENDRILS, GARLIC, SHAOXING, CRISPY SHRIMP Another one from the wok, nostalgic flavours- garlic and shaoxing, a kind of cooking wine often used in Chinese cooking.
Dessert, couldnāt decide so we got both.
LAPSANG SOUCHONG TEA PUDDING, PINEAPPLE PANDAN CARAMEL, COCONUT CANDY This is a spin on the soy pudding, the tea flavour marries the sweet and sour of the caramel and candy.
CHOC MILO PARFAIT, DULCE DE LECHE, PUFFED RICE, RASPBERRIES Glad we tried both because this was a different flavour profile altogether. Parfait, a cousin of ice cream minus the melting. The tartness from the raspberry cuts through the creamy malty Milo flavour and the crunchy bits makes this...
