ORDERED (SEP 2025): 🍗 Five-spice chicken ribs on rice: deep fried crispy chicken ribs served with chicken rice ($16.80) 🥥 Coconut juice ($7.00) It was $23.80 for my portion. REVIEW: 💛 I really enjoy five spice. It's incredibly aromatic and unapologetic on the peppery flavours. It works really well with deep fried chicken ribs, with the chicken perfectly juicy inside. Chicken rice added flavour but I couldn't help but wish for a soup to make it all less dry. Added portion of leafy greens added colour and a bit of health. I would either get this dish/laksa again! You can pay in cash (order with the staff) to avoid the card surcharge. ------ ORDERED (2023): 🍜  Fish Head Curry Laksa: Mixed noodles, fish head & okra ($18.50) 🍹  Iced lychee ($6.00) I paid $24.50 for my portion. REVIEW: 💖  The fish head laksa was so painful to eat, but delicious! It's one of my favourites. I eventually switched to a fork, and it made the experience infinitely easier than using chopsticks. 🐟  The skin of the fish head is thin, a little stretchy, and full of flavour. The meats are a little bit more complex to get at but they're incredibly juicy and soft. The reward is almost worth the pain! The creaminess of the laksa is delicious, while the combination of vermicelli noodles and slightly thicker egg noodles is perfect. It's very savoury and heart warming, so I was glad I only ordered this and the iced lychee drink to quench my thirst. 💫 I really appreciate that blast of sweet freshness from the drink! Portions are HUMONGOUS so you could just order the mains. 😵 Loved the friendly and warm service. The asian aunty ended up calling me "darling" which made me love her even more. Pay by cash, and you avoid the pesky card surcharge. Just let them know to take your order, to avoid ordering through the app.  😃 There's a big line after 6pm at Laksa King on a friday night, so try to go as early as you can to walk straight through.

Been here ten years ago and five years ago. Finally back around the area. Service is fantastic and attentive. Weekend surcharge is a bit of a deterrent these days. Atmosphere is relaxing and the restraint is up to standard with cleanliness. Now for the food review. Renown for its laksa and deservedly so, the aptly name laksa king lives up to its name with the aromatic broth and the hint of chilli on the top of your tongue as you slurp the warm milky white broth. Two big prawns along with a piece of eggplant and a mix match of thick yellow noodles and thin vermicelli white noodles. Thinly sliced fish cakes are scattered with one of two pieces of mussels and scallops. Overall the dish was fantastic and better than petaling street franchises but it’s portion is a tad too small for an average eater. The salty fried rice with chicken and eggs sprinkled with thinly sliced lettuce and spring onions had the wok heat but lacked what I prefer in my salty fish fried rice (I’d still go to grand tofu in glen Waverley over this dish). Portion again a tad on the ‘I want to lose weight’ side. Same can be said for the cha kweoy teo ( however you want to spell it) wok smell present but lacking body and substance that defines its originality. Overall, two sea food laksa and one fried rice and one fired noodles with no drinks cost $80+. Parking is ample if you drive further up along the railway line and side streets. Very narrow roads around here.

🥘 Seafood Curry Laksa 🥟 Pan Fried Pork Dumpling 🥜 Roti with Satay Sauce 🍜 Chicken Curry Laksa Laksa King is a Malaysian-Chinese restaurant in Melbourne. The first restaurant opened in 1998 in Flemington, later opening in Southland and Glen Waverly. 🇲🇾 Head Chef, Mike Chen has more than 30 years experience including executive head chef in 5-star hotels and fine dining establishments. Most of their famous dishes are based on authentic Malaysian recipes, created in their kitchen from scratch. You can order food a la carte or go for their “Good Value Banquet” which includes 8 courses for $35pp (minimum 3 people). I usually love ordering an iced lychee but the straw provided is so small you can barely get any of the drink - and it was sickly sweet. To our disappointment, the Roti with Satay and Dumplings were average. The Laksa is a huge serving, I would’ve had enough to take half home for the next day if I wanted. It had a good spice to it and the soup alone is great. Everything inside the soup though, was bland. Nothing was over cooked though - everything was still tender, both the noodles and vegetables. 🍜 It’s been a while since our last visit, we used to come frequently alternating between Laksa King and their next door neighbour Chef Lagenda. Maybe this was just a bad day. They now accept card and even have a QR ordering system.

Honestly one of the most awful, frustrating and maddening experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant. They would not let my fully vaccinated 17yr old cousin into the restaurant even though she had her vaccination certificate and a photo of her student id on her phone. They had to get her parents to drive to the restaurant to show her photo id in person even though her id on her phone shows her face. This took about half an hour. All the servers were rude and glared at us the entire time we were eating and when we asked for things like more table water they would snatch empty bottles from us and slam food and drinks down.

They kept rushing us while we were eating even though some of us hadn’t even received our meals yet. Some waited 40 minutes for their meals. They also forgot an entree we ordered and we had to end up asking the staff when it was coming out. When everything finally came out, a staff member came over and rudely stated we only had 10 more minutes to eat. The people who just received their meals were only given 15 minutes to eat their meal. Not enough time to finish their meal comfortably while the staff hovered around and rushed us out while clearing the table when we were still eating. They rudely came over and put their hands on the bowls we had half eaten and then asked if it was done. It was obviously not done.

I understand the restaurant was busy but we even called ahead to say we had a big party and they said that’s fine and to bring proof of vaccination, which we did.

The whole dining experience felt very stressful, tense, rushed and overall very negative time when it was meant to a...

Other than me getting my first parking ticket here (not from aussie, kms I can’t read street signs cry!!! Don’t put a 2h park and then a permit nearby idk what that means why can’t you be kind (ू˃̣̣̣̣̣̣︿˂̣̣̣̣̣̣ ू) ) and thus tainting my memories of laksa king - this was a fave as recommended by a friend who’d been here numerous times. And can I just say potentially an up there dish, one of few bowls that I actually enjoyed seeing, eating, finishing in melb, (whilst during my seating 38minutes into my meal unknowingly outside was ticketing my sad wallet and on my first official day back in Melbourne too. Tmi but this thought will always be with me now!) ANYWAY THE DISHES themselves - of course you’ve got to try the laksa, ok it was delish, a beautiful soupy sauce, not too thick nor thin, your choice of noods and desired laksa bowl of choice is beautifully made - the beef on my was tender and succulent - noodles still slurpy even though I left it sit for a good 5-10minutes doing a bit of a soak. If not the laksa, the kuay teow has a really good (hear me out) burnt taste to it, like charred with enough love that someone didn’t just burn it ya feel? Not to mention the hainanese chicken on rice - ok very well seasoned chicken. Just like, OK, it’s good. Still clean vibes yet very flavourful. Good cost to portion as well - though my first laksa experience was a grand dining experience 🫠 All banter aside, we save that one star for a potential rival that might knock this place out of...
