I saw the mouth watering pictures on Google with the 4+ star rate for this place. So I insisted to go for our dinner and I was regretting that.
The prices went up and it's done with white out, hand written on the menu. Normal pho prices are $13 and combination pho is $15, bahn mi $6, soldiers are $2.9EA or 3 for $8. But when I asked staff if I can mix 3 from the same price range but different rolls, got rejected. Lemongrass beef rolls they only make minimum 3? Really? So I couldn't order that! We wanted order bahn mi too but staff said it's ran out. I ordered prawn & pork rice roll, combination pho with beef brisket, grilled chicken with rice, coconut juice etc. I had to wait at the counter fair amount of time to load up the payment machine too.
Once we got sit down, the staff approached me again for the combination pho, saying they ran out of the brisket beef! Didn't ask me if I want different dish or refund for this. Simply asked me if I want more beef balls or raw beef instead. Well, the reason I ordered this was for brisket beef. And this would be different price - cheaper, anyway I choose raw beef.
And the rice rolls came out - 1 grilled chicken, 1 prawn & pork. Again, staff said no prawns left so they just made me pork haha. I love prawns that's why I ordered that. If I knew all these were run out before I order, I could order different dish or not ordered. Not ending up with eating all unwanted dishes and still had to pay for the whole price!!
Not to mention that the poor service too. I had ask for lemon & chilli for the pho as well as the coconut juice (which was really just coconut water) cos it didn't come out until I asked. There was not many people to serve there anyway.
Pho taste was okay just average but not wow. And guess what, they were making bahn mi for other people which they said ran out. We could see that as we walk out!
Before I dine, I wanted to come back to try other dishes too. But not anymore. I am not going there again! Warning alert people! Don't trust the good reviews! I hope u don't have to go through the same!
--- thanks for the comment the owner of this place. I was having a good relaxing day as it was on weekend. By visiting your place and had horrible service made my day bad. Thanks for that.
And okay I understand if it was near closing time. But is that means anyone who coming near closing time could experience this?? The staff was taking new orders & serving few more people after us though. What about the staff lie? They only make 3 minimum for specific rice rolls? No Bahn mi?
I don't buy your excuses and there is no apologies. I don't normally leave bad comment as you can see my history but your service and attitude seriously need to...
Read moreCheap and cheerful Vietnamese food, conveniently located on the Brunswick Street strip. Strong recommendation.
We didn't know what to expect, but banh mi was on my mind so we wandered in. What a pleasant surprise. We tried two different banh mi (grilled pork / chicken) plus some pork rice paper rolls. All excellent. Have eaten Vietnamese food in Viet Nam, and Madame Saigon was definitely up to the mark. Excellent fresh bread, plenty of filling, correct balance of meat and veg, very tasty. Also, friendly, helpful staff.
The venue's a bit tired, but I'm sure it was rented to them in a tired state and I expect it'll stay tired until the present landlord sells up.
We'll be back, soon, to check out the rest of the menu. I suspect this is going to become a Fitzroy...
Read moreI would rate this less if I could. The worst customer service and terrible food. They totally botched my order and refused a refund (disregarding Australian Consumer Law). Overcharged me for rice paper rolls, which were cold, chewy and fell apart. The staff here are rude and unprofessional. There are so many wonderful Vietnamese restaurants in this area and this is not one of them!!!! Cold, chewy & revolting food, combined with very rude staff who refuse refunds and overcharge their customers!! The worst experience I have had in a cafe / restaurant. To avoid a terrible experience- steer well clear of this place and away from the...
