Coffee fanatic. Have given this place about 11 chances now. Can’t give anymore leeway. Every double espresso I have had is burnt, sour and just honestly disgusting. Coffee is overpriced when there’s several options literally in Prahran market that serve cheaper and better coffee. I also make my own coffee at home going through about 500 grams a week. Have bought 2 batches of beans from this place and just honestly the worst on both a stovetop percolator (espresso blend) and in a machine. Lacks character on the beans. No interesting notes despite all this yap on the bags itself. Just a miserable excuse of a coffee brand making its money by having nice looking cafes and social media advertising. Spend your money elsewhere if you want a coffee that doesn’t make you gag, my partner who drinks lattes (more room to hide the bad coffee) despises this place due to the fact that they will serve coffee with clumps of cream because they don’t take a little care to strain the organic milk which nearly every other cafe that serves organic non-homogenised milk will do. It’s great it’s organic milk it’s terrible she can’t drink an iced latte through a straw because cream clumps all throughout the coffee.
Worst coffee I have had in Melbourne in a long time. Try leaf lane or campos if you want a better alternative...

And you can keep the money, Jason. What I don't agree with is a business blaming a customer for raising an issue with their approach of charging $5.50 for a coffee comprising of a weak shot, over-frothed milk and a blob for latte art. Whereas I may be able to excuse other cafes for a stray subpar coffee, your pricing and reputation leave no room for such a precipitous decline in quality.
"Hi Ed, I regret to hear that you were not satisfied with the quality of your coffee. While we try our best to train all of our baristas up to the level expected by Market Lane Coffee and our customers, it is not always possible, especially with recent staff shortages. Please accept my sincere apologies and I would be happy to refund you if you reply to this. Best, Jason."
There, fixed it for you. I find the audacity of allowing someone so inexperienced make a $5.50 coffee and the level of entitlement in your response rather...
Read moreThe staff here are unnecessarily rude about their lack of options.
I asked for almond milk - the server tells me that they have something “even better than almond; oat or dairy” in a snarky tone.
I ask them to heat up the croissant - he tells me to bring my own oven. Again, in this snarky tone.
I completely understand if a cafe chooses to not supply some non-dairy milk options or opts to not have an oven, but this tone of voice from the server caught me so off guard. A simple “sorry - we don’t supply x” would have been fine. It is terrible to put down your customers choices just because you don’t have the capacity to accomodate them.
It is a nice looking cafe with okay coffee. The staff’s attitude is enough to make me never want to return. I wouldn’t recommend...
