Update: due to the horrible and unprofessional response to a well considered and detailed review that obviously got the owners knickers in a twist, I've changed the review to 1 star. Obviously from this response it shows they don't care one iota about their customer service and the following review is a accurate description of the sub par and rude experience you will get at this venue
During my recent visit to Tessie Pearl Pub in South Wharf, I had a somewhat average experience. While there were some positive aspects, there were also areas that could use improvement.
Let's start with the positives. The pub's happy hour was decent. The discounts and specials offered during this time were enticing and provided good value for money though giving you sub par offerings. Though it was a opportunity to socialize with friends and enjoy some affordable drinks.
However, I must mention that I was disappointed with the choice of spirits for the house pour. The selection seemed limited and lacked some popular and premium options. It would be beneficial if Tessie Pearl Pub could expand their spirit offerings to cater to a wider range of preferences rather than the cheapest option.
Additionally, I found the taste of the Carlton beer to be rank. There was a soapy flavor that detracted from any enjoyment of the beer. I had higher expectations for the quality and taste of the beer, so this was a bit of a letdown. Ensuring that the beers served are fresh and consistently flavorful would greatly enhance the experience.
Furthermore, the postmix drinks were a bit flat, lacking the desired carbonation and flavor. It would be beneficial for the pub to pay closer attention to the preparation of their soft drinks to ensure they are served at their best.
Lastly, it is worth mentioning that the atmosphere was affected by a few disruptive individuals who were drawn to the pub due to its cheap drink prices. These individuals created a less than ideal environment, making it less enjoyable for other patrons. While it's understandable that inexpensive drinks may attract a diverse crowd, maintaining a respectful and welcoming atmosphere should be a priority for the pub.
Overall, Tessie Pearl Pub in South Wharf offers a subpar experience. The happy hour specials are ok, but improvements are needed in the choice of spirits, beer quality, and postmix drinks. Now I know why it's empty on a...
Read moreCame to this place last Saturday 14/10/23 only because my partner and I were a bit early to a function that we are attending that night. So, we’ve decided that we are just going to have a drink to kill time. Anyways, like any patrons we’ve waited to be served which we were standing behind two ladies and when the bartender (guy with a beard) started to serve their drinks. I moved on the side of those two ladies and politely asked the bartender if they were serving any mocktails which he responded that they do not. Fair enough, the only reason why I moved to the side and asked him so when it was our turn to order. We know already what we are going to order. He immediately then asked the people behind the two ladies and asked what they wanted. Naturally, I informed him that we were the one’ s next in line and he arrogantly said that “we moved”. Then just shrugged his shoulders afterwards.
Having seen the past comments of either the manager or owner of the pub. I can see now where the problem stems. Yes, there’s always another side to a story and yes, it is good to stand up for your staff but when you are getting almost the same bad reviews then maybe there is really something wrong with your staff? I may just get the generic response or as it was said in another response “we don’t take reviews particularly seriously… our replies to reviews are a joke.” Does that mean that the response they give even on the good reviews are jokes as well? To me it sounds like pure arrogance hence the attitude problems of some of the staff. You are in the hospitality business and clearly what we’ve experience last Saturday was not hospitable at all. Don’t even try to make the excuse that maybe it was busy that time. The place was not packed and being busy should not give you any reason at all to be rude to customers.
Anyways, we will definitely not comeback and I will make sure to discourage future patrons if ever I am in the position to discuss your business. Can’t wait to walk pass again your business and hope that it is finally closed for good. Not in my nature to wish something bad to another person but given the bad experience and the arrogant responses from bad reviews, this place truly deserves...
Read moreIt’s now my local & it only took one evening watching the silly shenanigans of work colleagues expressing their… passion for each other over and over again, suits and casuals beating each other at pool, people getting progressive worse at the ping-ping table on the other side of the bar, really great service that made you feel like they were paying attention to you, and that classic playlist of early 2000 sk8-punk to win me over. Couch was the perfect place to watch it go down and the hardest part was getting back up after being this comfortable.
It doesn’t take itself too seriously, ensures the customers are front-and-centre while providing speedy results. Shoutout to the team working on the 1st August.
We had zero issues with our trainee SED. Some restaurants in the area were not clued up enough to provide immediate access, which was a bit jarring - these guys knew what the score...
