Previously I had visited this restaurant, and everything was perfect from food, service, cleanliness etc. This visit, we had to wait and ask for where our food was. The service was poor, and looking back on it, I think the staff expected that all orders would be done via the QR code/online. For us who didn't do it this way, had to really make an effort to get the staff attention. And a few mix up with different food being dropped off.

On top of this, we had a staff member who spilled some sauce on our shoes. Didn't apologize, and asked them to get something to clean it up. We waited for many minutes, to then see that staff delivering food to tables. Took another couple of minutes to get the attention of another staff member, who after telling them what had happened, did the exact thing that the first member did, which was then to ignore us and continue serving other customers. We eventually got the attention of the offending staff member, who was told by us, that we were disappointed and upset with the service, as we were wanting to order our desserts. They again left the table, not to return (with something to clean up our shoes and floor, but they didn't return to take our order). Again, some minutes later, we got the attention of someone who was completely different, and asked to talk to the manager. The manager was then told of the situation, and how disappointed we were. We said that if the offending staff member apologized and returned with something to clean up the mess, we would have been fine. We all make mistakes, but not to apologize and not to return, was disgusting and very upsetting for us. We left the restaurant not confident that the manager would have solved the situation. To make amends, the costs of 2 x glasses of coke was taken off our bill. Personally this isn't enough to warrant our return to this particular restaurant. After raving about this restaurant for months, and experiencing such wonderful service at my other meals, to then having such a bad experience last night, has really upset and disappointed us. It really ruined an...

We had an interesting experience tonight.

My group (6 people) ordered a bunch of food to start with. After about half an hour, only 30% of our food had come out to the table. (The food was really delicious I have to say)

We questioned the waiter only to be told that it's really busy and to just wait. We were told to reorder a while later and still had to wait a further 20 minutes. Food portions were all over the place, 4 pieces here, 2 pieces there despite 6 people at our table. A missing jug of soft drink, a request for more table water getting ignored.

Another waitress came to our table an hour later (this is after we'd still only received 40% of our dishes) to tell us that this was our last order! I was ready to go full Karen at this point :(

We politely mentioned that we hadn't received a vast majority of what we ordered, and we hadn't even been there that long.

So we ordered a bunch more food, the waitress told us to order dessert and assured us that they'd bring it out at the end - shocker, they didn't.

They brought it out mid meal along with our ice cream that had to sit there melting while we ate our food (even though we ordered it at the end)

Our food was amazing, which was the one saving grace about the whole experience. The waiters were extremely kind, however they didn't seem very experienced. I'm not going to blame our experience on any one individual but rather management overall. My mate told me there was only 2 guys in the kitchen(!) No wonder our orders were going missing.

Hire some more chefs for your kitchen before the current ones quit from the stress 🤌 it's not fair on hospo staff to have to endure patron frustration due to understaffing caused by...

I don't normally leave that many reviews. I've usually enjoyed Okami and I have been to a few. BUT this one really deserved one, and not in a good way. I will not be stepping foot in Niddrie in the future as it is the most unhygienic place. My friends and I went in last night to celebrate my birthday (note: we spent a lot of money on food and drinks as well) and we were served by someone who was VERY clearly sick with a cold. As she was taking our order she was snuffling, wiping her snot on her sleeve, wipining her nose with an already dirty tissue and at times, wipining her snot on her hands with the very same gloves she was using to SERVE our food..she clearly had no issue with it. At one point, she also put her hand on my friend's shoulder WITH the hand holding the same dirty tissue..she was not wearing a mask. Some of us didn't feel comfortable eating the food by her because we didn't want to get what she had and quite frankly, I can't afford to get sick at the moment. When we complained, the only response we got was "oh I thought she had hayfever". Sorry but if she is as sick as she clearly was she should not be serving food and she definitely shouldn't be working. This should have never been allowed and if anything she should have at least worn a mask. She should have also known better with hygiene practices especially when she was sick but she seemed to have no issue with the way she was spreading her germs. It is unfair that we spent so much money only to worry about avoiding any food she touched, particularly when we were...

So this was an interesting experience. We were seated and given menus and ordered what we wanted off the menu, not realising it was a buffet. After looking at the menu I see that was described in the illustration, but we didn’t look at the illustration because we thought it was just to decorate the menu. We ordered thinking it was a la carte. We couldn’t eat all our meal so we asked to take away what we didn’t eat. They said no that we couldn’t take away buffet food. We were confused because we thought we were ordering a la carte. We weren’t walking up to a serving area and picking items out of a buffet. So anyway we said ok well then it will have to be thrown out then. We were then told there was a surcharge for wastage. She showed us where it said that in the menu. What it said was “extra charges may occur if waste is over 200g”. What is the charge you ask? $10 per person. For us that was $40. My mind is officially blown, but not in a good way. Plus side is food was quick coming out. Was it great food? It was ok, the sushimi at the Sushi Bar takeout shop in Uni Hill is fresher. First and last visit to this restaurant. If I could offer some advice, maybe explain how it all works to your customers before they order. In my mind if you get given a menu and it’s not set menu then its a la carte. A simple “have you been here before?” would be a good start and for people that hadn’t been before then I would suggest an explanation of how it all works.

All you can eat Japanese!!! How can you go wrong. The food comes out quickly, it’s tastes great and if very reasonably priced… — We came in for their second sitting and as a party of 10 we had the wait to be seated with 40-50 ppl in a very small cramped area until all the tables were reset for service. Ideally they should seat everyone as they come in, then you can start service when they’re ready, I think you’ll find people are happier to wait at a table with their friends than in a tiny entrance having the first sitting people squeezing to get passed to leave. — No Split Bills! This makes no business sense! We tried to pay with cash and 2 cards, they would have no part of it! “We can do cash and one card but not 2 cards”… What’s the difference? (I know the girl was only doing her job) The only foreseeable reason you don’t split bills in a restaurant is either for accounting purposes or to not bottle neck people leaving? They have no problem bottle necking people coming in, so why do it when WE WANT TO GIVE YOU MONEY! Makes no sense, you’re a business take money from people any way they want to give it to you, allocating two credit card stubs to one table is just lazy, it turned a great dining experience where we wanted to leave a generous tip into a sour ending with no tip! Great food and plenty of it, just need to be a little more customer experience focused, it’s not just about the food.

Incredible selection of delicious Japanese delights that are served quickly and just continually arrives to your table. A great value👍 all you can eat. Although don’t order too much or you will be charged for what you don’t eat. Staff are so attentive making sure all your requests are acknowledged and responded to without delay. Items ordered were supplied within minutes and a constant supply of drinks was cheerfully delivered. I also asked for a printed list of our initial ordered items and this was presented immediately. It was so easy to continue ordering items throughout our 2 hour session. We booked our dinner session the night prior and found it very easy to place the seating schedule within the first evening session. There is two evening dinner sessions with a limit of 2 hours each. On the mid week evening session the restaurant was found to be quite busy but very comfortable with distance seating and plenty of room. Dishes are well prepared and traditionally presented. A sincere experience of Japanese dining with lots of dishes to experience. Plenty of space for mobility impaired.
