📍Saowanee Thai, Niddrie - 4.2 ⭐️ out of 5.

Saowanee is where I want to go if I want comfort food. I have been coming here for years and years for solid Thai food and it is ALWAYS packed (even on a week night)

We had the: ➖Pad kee mao noodles ($20) ➖Pad Thai chicken ($21) ➖Beef pad see ew ($19) ➖Vegetarian pad cashew nut ($20) ➖Green curry with vegetables ($20) ➖Roti with peanut sauce ($6)

My absolute stand out favourite here that I have to order is the pad kee mao noodles (tops pad thai and pad see ew in my opinion). I loveee the flat noodles with the spice, capsicum, and Thai basil. The spiciness absolutely varies every time, but this keeps me on my toes!!

The pad see ew is also exceptional. Special shout out to the por Pia tod (spring rolls with beef mince) here as well.

Food comes out ridiculously quickly here and the staff are lovely. I also have an affection for the very green walls.

Overall 4.2...

This little place with the apple green walls and toning green serviettes and crockery is unassuming and charming. A real Thai family eatery. As vegetarians it was a simple matter to make suitable choices as at least half of the menu catered to our needs. We shared Salad Puk Sod (mixed vegetables topped with slices of boiled egg and peanut sauce) and Gaeng Massamun ( a simple coconut milk curry with vegetables, pineapple and peanuts). Both dishes were exquisitely prepared, delicious to eat and perfectly presented. Steamed rice was an excellent complement to both. It was a busy night, but the service was gracious and speedy. Highly...

Fantastic little venue. Staff are very friendly and attentive.

Very busy. Would strongly recommend you book in advance. The food was excellent. A lot of traditional flavours and options that showcased the region. Also a number of options to appease a more Western palate. A few things that they could have improved on such a more traditional drink options. Only had soft drinks, OJ, AJ and alcohol for cold drinks and Coffees/Tea/Hot Chocolate along with Green/Jasmine teas for hot drinks. That being said, the deserts are a must try. #2 is by far one...

Felt like walking into a Thailand jungle! The place is very green. It seemed extremely busy for a Tuesday evening, so definitely pre-book a table. Because of this, it can get noisy in there. Considering how busy they were, service was very quick. Food was nice enough. Would like to see more veggies added to some of the dishes. Ordered rice for 3 people, but had to then order an extra individual rice as it wasn’t enough. The individual portion definitely held more rice than the bigger serving given to us in the tureen.
