Attended Palazzo for a 50th Birthday Party. Unfortunately there is not a lot of good things to say. We arrived & were waiting for someone to come over to us & show us where to go most staff just walked around us & we ended up finding our own way to meet the other guests. Once in side we made our way to a bar standing around talking & waiting to be served only to be told by the bar staff to move away from the bar which was situated right next to where we were seated so he could put some drink down then we finally got some service. The staff could of not looked more unhappy to be there not a smile on one staff members face just for the exception of a young fella there that seemed to be enjoying his work. Meals were served within a reasonable time frame nothing to flash with the meals. The waiter that was behind the bar came over to serve us with some drinks spilled a whole glass of wine all over my wife with out even an apology until I actually said something to him coming back with a wet cloth & started to wipe down my wife. We also ordered some drinks just beer nothing to extravagant after waiting 20 mins we asked where they were & the women staff member replied they were warm & they were chilling them down she then proceeded to go get the drinks that were still warm & handed them over to us I then said she could of offered us something else that was cold instead of having us wait 20 mins for a drink no reply just a sour look from her face. We did how ever get my wife's meal for free due to the drink spillage issue. We were also looking for prospective venues for our sons 18th Birthday I can defiantly say Palazzo will be off the list. Meals I would give a 6/10. Staff attitude & friendliness 2/10 Would not rush back there for a meal the whole thing was pretty...
Read moreWe had a booking at 730pm for 7 people last night. When we arrived we were in their bookings however there were no tables downstairs so we asked if we could go upstairs and the staff then realized we were supposed to be upstairs anyway. We were taken to our table and our initial drinks orders were taken and we were given one bottle of water for the 7 of us. The one bottle was only enough water for 5 people even with the small glasses we were given. We weren't given any more water nor was the empty bottle removed from our table for entire duration of dinner which was about 90 minutes. We ordered mains straight away as we didn't want entrees. 40 minutes after we ordered we asked where our food was and the waitress said she would find out. She came back and told us they were really busy and we're still making our meals (we ordered pasta and pizza, nothing that takes long to make). Upstairs there was our table of 7, a table of 5 and 2 tables of 2 so there were about 20 free tables upstairs and a few empty downstairs so they weren't even half full. We asked if we could have a free jug of beer or some garlic bread to tide us over and were told a resounding no. Our food eventually arrived 60 minutes after ordering and it was hot and delicious so no complaints in that department. Cost-wise the pizzas were good ($15 for a large meat lovers pizza) but other items were a bit expensive ($25 for a chicken parmigiana). I gave 3 stars because the food prices and quality were good but service was slow and the excuse that they were too busy when they weren't even half full bought the...
Read moreWe ordered the seafood marinara pasta, spaghetti bolognese, a large pizza, and a couple of drinks. We were expecting a lot because of all the positive reviews and 4-5 star ratings on Google, but sadly for us, our dining experience at Palazzo was totally different. First off, it's the only place we've been to that serves a 'marinara pasta' without tomato sauce. It's partly my fault for not reading the menu carefully 'cause they actually put in the description that it's seafood in white wine and olive oil, but I just thought it's common knowledge that a marinara-based pasta dish would have tomato sauce. Anyway, it was awful. It's literally just a plate of fresh boiled noodles with steamed mussels and prawns and a drizzle of olive oil. It was around $32-35/plate.
Their bolognese meat sauce was the only decent dish we had that night. They didn't skimp on the meat sauce, but we still think the bolognese sauce at Vapiano is way better.
Pizza was okay. Just okay. We've had better for the same price. Or maybe we just didn't order their bestseller? I don't know.
Anyway, the ambience was topnotch, though. So I'll give them that. Did we regret it? No. At least we got to try Palazzo ourselves. Are we likely to go back? Probably not. There's a lot more pasta places around Melbourne that are...
