Poor service, came here at around 2.30pm (i kept track of time because of parking). Ordered 2 special broken rice, waited for 30-45 mins only for the old lady at the counter (im assuming the owner) to come to our table and say that the item is sold out.

I asked why it took so long for them to say that as weve waited for a while already. She said the kitchen just told her that they're out of the pork chop for the broken rice. (my mom is already grumpy at this point as its highly unusual for restaurants to tell patrons the food is sold out 30 mins after ordering). But we gave benefit of the doubt and ordered something else, hoping that this one would come out sooner.

However this one is no different, waited another 40 mins for the food, and whats worse is that two other groups of tables that came after we ordered the second time have theirs come out already. I asked the lady and she just told me that the food's coming.

At that point we had enough as it's already 4pm and we havent had lunch yet (while the other tables have almost finished theirs). We asked to cancel our orders but the lady only said if you want to cancel she'll have to notify the kitchen first as the food may have already been prepared. So i said if you cant cancel it then at the very least give us small discounts to make up for the long wait times. But she just straight up said no discounts so we decided to walk out and find somewhere else to eat.

I can forgive the broken english, but the lady was unprofessional, rude, and unapologetic to us and didnt try to make up for the fact that other people's food have come out already despite having came after we ordered.

Ate somewhere else further down the road, the service was more profesional, place was nicer, and food came less than 7 mins...

ACCEPTABLE VIETNAMESE FOOD Phu Vinh restaurant is within the Footscray Market building and can be accessed from both Hopkins Street and from within the market building. A wide range of rice and noodle dishes. Usual pork, chicken, beef a nd seafood variants. Unfortunately for vegetarians there is not much on the menu for them other than asking to omit meats. Complimentary chinese tea at table and a range of canned soft drinks available. It is a bit frenetic, and noisy. Definitely not the kind of place that you sit and relax in... more an eat and go kind of place. Two of us dined together for lunch. His meal (Haineses chicken rice) arrived after about 10 minutes but unfortunately my humble bowl of chicken pho didn't arrive until well after he'd finished. Food tasted genuinely Vietnamese and was decent quality. Rice paper rolls were a bit disappointing though as mostly vermicelli noddle and little else. People with mobility issues may struggle here as the restaurant and the whole market area is very cramped and cluttered with poor access for wheelchairs or walking...

I’m a regular customer here for long time but for last few times I’m very disappointed with their service I ordered different 3 dishes but I got double as the same thing when I trying to told them a waitress who is skinny guy and wearing glasses try to reproach me back until another waitress came and said sorry. Today I met a same waitress I came with a pram in hard to get in to a restaurant I just call him for taking a takeaway order at front door he said he has to ask chef first cause they might run out of this menu. He keep me and baby standing out side of the restaurant and he not get back to me I try to waiting and waiting I saw him through the clear window and he has been eye contact with me I hope he will come out but NOT!!!! until I was a bit upset and wasted my time I try to call him and asked and then he told me “run out this menu”. This is very poor customer service definitely...

Food: Known for their staple Vietnamese dishes, previously we had only gone for quick lunches and it was just another one in the bunch on Hopkins. However this time round we had some Vietnamese food experts with us who pre-ordered fresh fish for a Vietnamese style sour soup, which most of us had never tried. Magic. Ordered a couple of other fried dishes with rice. Brought our own grog. Service: Minimal English, but very friendly. Ambience: Much quieter than its neighbouring popular Viet Kitchen and Sapa Hills across the road. But no lining up involved and no loud hipsters either. Value: Expecting it to be $40-$50 per head. Left with change for drinks and late night pizza at Mr West. Summary: Do a bit of research and compare the few restaurants. This one is probably worth exploring further as who knows what other gems are on the menu other than the regular Phos etc.

Have to say that I'm disappointed with the quality of the food that were served. I ordered Chef Vinh spring rolls, fried chicken ribs XO sauce, rare cook beef salad, and broken rice. Out of all, broken rice is the better one. The spring roll was crispy but the inside is a soft filling, some sort of blended meat or vegs. The filling is really soft, lacking in texture. The rare beef cook salad is basically cooked beef salad, there's no "rare" in there. As for fried chicken ribs, the batter is very heavy and thick. Feels like it had been cooked in oil thats not hot enough. Price wise, it's quite reasonable. Service is good.
