First time eating at Pony Boy, but thought we'd give it a try after hearing good things. It's located in the Morris Moor precinct and there is ample parking and easy to get to. The restaurant is relatively new and very spacious and clean and you're not packed in like sardines. It's not too noisy and the decor is nice. When the waiter took our drink order, I went first and after I told him I wanted a Coke, he walked off to go and get it without taking anyone else's order; strange. I asked if I could have a piece of salmon battered with chips and he didn't even go and ask them in the kitchen. He just showed me other items with salmon in it; ugh. When it came to ordering the meals, we ordered entree and then our mains. The entree took a while to come out (considering it was just dips and they weren't overly busy), and maybe a minute or two after receiving the entree, out came the mains. This makes me mad. I can't handle that. Not only is there no room to put everything, but it feels rushed and it negates the purpose of ordering an entree. I had asked for my meal to come with no salt, yet it was FULL of salt which also drove me mad. When the waiter saw me brushing my food with a napkin, he asked if everything was ok, and I told him I'm brushing off all of the salt that I didn't ask for, and he just says "Oh, ok." You're only as strong as your weakest link. With all of that said, the food is nice. If I could be guaranteed that the entrees will come out and we'd be given time to eat them and then get a main (with no salt), I'd come back again for sure. As I said, the food is good and the place is clean and I think there's good value as the portions are a good size. It might be a while before I come back, but I...
Read moreThis place is worth all the positive reviews you’re seeing, but come and try it yourself to believe so.
I would rank this as a foolproof joint for some filling, easy food. Their menu is huge (in a good way), which makes mixing and matching with friends quite fun because you can try a little bit of everything.
We had the fish and chips and an open plate bifteki.
My bifteki open plate was enjoyable. But stingy on the meat but I’ve seen photos of other meals were the meat is stacked sky-high, so maybe that’s just because I ordered bifteki. I was a little shocked to see everyone else’s plates on their reviews as they had heaps of meat, so maybe I’ll order something different if I want more next time.
Other than that, there was enough tzatziki for the whole meal, which other Greek eateries seem to be forgetting when they give you approximately 3mls of sauce for a whole box of food.
The chips were tasty, and I enjoyed the salad. Although more feta never hurt anybody and the dressing was a tad sweet.
Speaking of sweet, the fish and chips were nice for the first few bites. Great texture on the fish, but quite a sweet batter than you grow to get sick of. Heaps of sauce came with that as well.
Overall, I’d like to try this place again and try a completely different set of meals to see what tickles my fancy a little more than the ones I got the first time. Who knows, it may even land 5 stars...
Read moreI revisited this place after over a year and tried their open plate. At just over $32, the very very small portion of meat you actually got, tasted okay. However you’re mostly paying for salad and chips with this dish, so I have to say it’s quite poor value for that price. This will have to mark my final visit to this place. A star for service and a star for nice restaurant / ambience. Thank you.
I finally had a chance to visit this place! The restaurant itself is beautiful and spacious and has a great feel to it. The service is excellent, with prompt, welcoming, friendly staff.
The souvlaki was a good portion in size and flavour, but the chicken was very dry, with many tough to chew bits.
The calamari in the calamari pack was some of the tastiest pieces of calamari I’ve had, but the dish could be improved so much more, by simply halving the chips, adding some herbs on the chips, so they aren’t as plain, add a small serve of salad, and a wedge of lemon for the calamari. This would complete this calamari pack, and not make it such a plain, heavily fried dish.
I will have to come back and try some of their other tasty...
