Called into this eclectic little pub for the second time the other week and again was impressed. My wife and I are always looking for places to eat out with the kid’s as our two boys love eating as much as they love running around and discovering new places. Over the past 6 months we have had some weird and wonderful experiences dining out with the kids, we appreciate that these guys seem to get it, they offer people with kids the options to eat early in a kid friendly environment. My wife had the 350g porterhouse and was pleasantly surprised at the portion size being a genuine 350g, ordered vegies and couldn’t decide for a sauce; so she went with the sauce from the brisket. She only knew of this because last time she had the BBQ brisket and asked for the same sauce. The young guy on said he would check with the chef and he promptly returned with a smile on his face and my wife knew it was all-good. I was even allowed a second piece, which I was surprised as she is not a good sharer! I had the lamb salad, which is filling but doesn’t leave you feeling like you’ve been gorging all day. I’m a devil for a good salad and this nailed it; very clean eating and the meat just melted. Spot on!. My eldest being 3 and a half years old is a typical fussy kid and surprised us all by devouring an entrée serve of the calamari (we had ordered it to share but no one else got any!) Nothing better then watching your fussy eaters enjoy something that’s not on the kids menu. He is yet to enjoy calamari anywhere else. His younger brother being 16 months eats everything and is a machine so we knew chicken bites and chips was not going to go untouched. Good to see something comes out on a kid’s meal that is fresh real chicken – a pleasant surprise. Complimentary kids ice creams are also a big plus!! All in all, the best family friendly pub we have discovered in Melbourne, we will be back and would recommend to all with or without kids. Great food, cold beer, decent wine list and the kids loved their water and raspberry fire engines… Good to see an untouched classic old pub still exists in inner Melbourne. Well done to you and your staff. Keep the kids meals REAL, and the brisket...
Read moreHi, this is the scotch fillet loving Uber driver in metro Melbourne. I like to treat myself to a pub meal at least once a fortnight. Of course I have to have the scotch fillet 😃. So one day I told one of my customers about this and behold… He recommended the Railway Hotel in South Melbourne, saying that the steaks there are terrific! So I had to try it 🫠. I did, I dropped in about a month ago and Yes! My steak was terrific! One of the best in Melbourne… that night. So before I review I go back a second time to make sure that the quality of the steak is maintained. Tonight I was dissatisfied ☹️ the great service is the same, the steak I was served was not the same. It was prepared well to my liking but it tasted a little off. You know, when you go to cook a steak, you take a sniff at it and… well you think that it will taste alright after its cooked. So you cook it but it tastes exactly the same way it smelled before you tossed on the BBQ. That’s how this steak tasted, and not even the sauce saved it! My last visit to the this pub I’m afraid. I shall spen my $60 in another pub down the road next time I am in...
Read moreWent here for a birthday dinner. The only good thing was booking online was easy - almost too good to be true. Their website has the incorrect menu - no lamb shanks, no crispy salmon etc… prices were approx $4 extra per meal, so disappointing as the meals we wanted were not on the actual menu and this is why we chose this place. Apparently the website is the summer menu - yet we are in summer? The steaks on the website allow you to choose 2 sides but in fact it’s just chips and salad with no other option and you have to pay for a side of mash. After ordering a side of mash, the staff came out later and advised they were out of mash! At 6pm and we are the only people in the bistro! Yet they do roast potatoes with the brisket. The Parma was soggy and the so called salad was rocket leaves and red onion - some tomato or cucumber wouldn’t go astray for a $30 meal! The cheesy garlic bread was decent. The staff couldn’t even crack a smile, let alone apologise and the pub was empty pretty much and makes me wonder why. I wouldn’t recommended this venue when there are plenty of other pubs...
