My husband and I came for breakfast today. We have been here a few times now as we are locals. Today's experience unfortunately was terrible. When we arrived, we were taken to a table. We were given menu's but as we already knew what we wanted, were happy to order. The young lady said she would get someone to take our orders but nobody came. Eventually after seeing other guests being seated and their orders taken and not ours, I got up to approach a staff member only to get someone who in our opinion, either lacked experience or training as we had to repeat the order. The food arrived which was average at best. The worst was yet to come. When got up to leave and pay for our meal at the counter we mentioned to the lady at the register that the meal was average and her reply was " we are short staffed" with no apology whatsoever. We were merely giving her feedback and yet she became very defensive. My husband owned a large cafe/restaurant for 12 years so understand the workings of how they are run. Sadly this was our last visit. Perhaps management may need to review their staff training as it is...

The girl who waited on us was alright but not warm and welcoming. Second lady that took our orders had a smile.
We arrived at 2.15pm and were told that the kitchen closes at 2.30pm and the venue closes at 4pm. Which was fine. But around 3.20pm, they blasted the music really loudly whereby no conversations could be had. Was that a blatant attempt to shoo us out? A simple "we are closing up" would suffice. And 5 minutes later, the music volume was turned up a few notches!
And this was not even 4pm- The closing time they mentioned!!!
I really hope it wasn't so and that perhaps they just wanted to groove to the music while cleaning up. Because if that wasn't the case, then it is a poor reflection of them as a person and a paid working staff in the hospitality line clearly not doing their job and being hospitable.
I would get it if it was 4pm or way past and we were still there.....
Read moreProper and Son at the South Melbourne Markets offered a simple but awsome dining experience with its delicious cheeseburger and fries. During my quick lunch visit, I was pleasantly surprised by the outstanding quality of the food. The cheeseburger was truly amazing and one of the best I've had in a while. Along with the tasty fries, the meal was satisfying and flavorful.
The service at Proper and Son was top-notch, with attentive staff members who were prompt and friendly. Despite only trying the cheeseburger on this visit, I could tell that the overall dedication to quality and customer satisfaction was evident throughout the establishment.
While I didn't have the chance to sample other dishes during my visit, I am eager to return to Proper and Son to explore more of their menu offerings. If the cheeseburger is any indication of the caliber of their food, I have no doubt that the rest of the options will be equally impressive. Proper and Son at the South Melbourne Markets is definitely worth a visit for a tasty meal...
