The Nutshoppe located at the South Melbourne Market has become my healthy pleasure during the lockdown. Their website allows the ordering of products to be shipped or picked up. Prices are very reasonable for the fresh items supplied and are packed to COVID-19 standards. The staff there are always run off their feet and still serve with a smile and pleasantries. A summary of information from their website - The family started the Nutshoppe in 1983 in Oakleigh. In the year 2000, they became part of the South Melbourne Market. Nearly all the products they sell come directly from local farmers, which then benefits them. They roast their nuts and create a variety of mixes for the customer. The products are of a consistent and high standard. My Recommendations: Licorice Nuts - Walnuts & macadamias - processed or al a natural Pretzels - with and without chocolate coating Ginger - sugar-coated or dark chocolate coating. I highly recommend visiting or ordering products from this Melbourne icon.

Arrived here on a crisp sunny day, I sampled a variety of macademia nuts, almonds and pretzels- they tasted absolutely fresh and delicious. Ended up buying 3 bags of treats The store owner even took some time to share the origins of the nuts amidst the busy moments. Will definitely be back for a second round!

AWEFUL EXPERIENCE. The girl serving gave me a snarling attitude look on her face each time I was asking for minimum bags of nuts and saying I couldn’t hear her as she was talking away from me and under her breath. When she had to repeat herself, she was quite annoyed and it clearly showed on her face. I asked if anything was wrong and she pretended she didn’t know what I was talking about. I said I didn’t appreciate the attitude and then to top it off the owner stepped in and abused me and accusing me of being the rude one. She made quite a scene . The girl with the attitude was then seen secretly smirking at me while the owner continued to gaslight me in believing it was me with the problem. While the owner was ranting, the girl was bagging the wrong nuts so when I pointed that out, the owner then said to me, “look, what do you want”.

It’s not the first time I’ve experienced bad customer service here. The owner continues to hire at low customer standards. Maybe because they are a reflection of her own personal attitude. It’s happened too many times. It’s not an isolated case. If there was somewhere else to go I would have stopped going there along time ago. But today took it to another level.

Surely I can’t be the only one who feels intimidated by her. In fact she goes out of her way to ignore you for a while before she decides she could be bothered wanting to serve you. It’s quite intentional. I haven’t seen her smile once. Such an...

I have been buying dried fruit and nuts from this shop for years. Overall, I have found the quality of the product to be very good - only once there was a quality issue with the dried fruit going mouldy after a few days but this has never been repeated. My feedback here is primarily about their weighing practices. They are clearly all trained to ensure that they give the exact amount paid for - ie if you ask for 500 grams of something, and they weight out 505 grams they will remove some to reduce it to 500g. This has been their way for as long as I've shopped there, and while not generous, it is fair. Recently, the number on their scales has been 470g, 480g, and then they add a tiny bit more and wrap it up without reweighing. I happen to have highly accurate, recently calibrated scales and I checked the last couple of times how much I actually received. Of the last 5 packages I purchased from them, 4 were under the weight I paid for (1 of them below by over 10%), and 1 was 1 gram over (if I exclude the bag its still 3 grams under). I don't care about the small losses, but the fact that it is becoming consistent just seems really stingy. Honestly, as a consumer, I'd prefer they increase the prices by 5% and just pack slightly more generously - wouldn't leave a bad taste in my mouth every time I leave the store. But if they are going to weigh it to the gram, they should take the bag into account and never go below the amount that has...

I’ve been a loyal customer of The Nutshoppe at South Melbourne Market for over 8 years and have spent thousands of dollars here. Unfortunately, after today’s experience, I will never shop here again.

I wanted to purchase a 1kg bag of macadamia nuts (priced at $35) and simply asked if I could have it split into two 500g bags so I could share with a friend. What seemed like a straightforward and reasonable request was met with an unnecessarily abrupt and dismissive response.

The older man behind the counter who was weighing and bagging the nuts flatly said, “No, we don’t do that.” When I asked why, hoping for a basic explanation or even a polite tone, he repeated, “No, we don’t do that,” again with no reasoning provided.

After years of supporting this business, I was shocked by the rudeness and lack of basic customer service. There was no attempt to be helpful, no courtesy, and certainly no appreciation for long-time customers.

If the owner chooses to respond, I would urge you not to try and justify this kind of treatment. There is no reasonable excuse for refusing such a simple request or for speaking to a customer in such a dismissive way.

You’ve lost a loyal customer today—and I won’t be recommending The Nutshoppe to anyone...
