The food is great, the staff servicing the food are friendly, courteous and efficient, but the staff in the counter when it comes to paying our bill, is something else. We ordered Rocksalt Benny and extra egg and Turkish bread under extra section, (see photo supplied). When it comes to paying, the extra egg for $3 was charged correctly, but the extra Turkish bread, instead of $1 as indicated in the menu, he decided to charge us $9.50 for "Toast by Noisette". After getting out if the restaurant when looked at the bill, and it wasn't correct, my husband went back, and front up the cashier, got a refund of $3, instead of $8.50. Again after out of restaurant and discovered the mistake, for the 2nd time, into the cafe, we requested the appropriate refund instead of short changing us. At first he refused, asked me why should he, then I said, it's in the menu, he asked, where, then I pointed out to him, then he started complaining that some people order 1 main dish and ordered many different extras, meaning so that they pay less, I kept quiet. (deep down I felt insulted as we do this many times at other places, there has never been any issues). The cashier is still not happy, and took all the money he gave us and returned us $8 instead of $8.50. By this time I was so angry, I raised my voice, THE MENU SAID $1 NOT $1.50. Only then he reluctantly gave us the change we should be getting. 1. It seems between us ordering the food and paying, the cashier decided to change $1 that we understood as in the menu, and $9.50 for something we have never ordered) 2. He doesn't know the menu, or he disagree with what the menu said. 3 He doesn't like people ordering more than 1 extras with each main (but this restriction was not indicated in the menu) It is such a pity our wonderful outing that started great, in supposedly great looking place, and nice food, is totally spoiled by a narrow minded cashier (may be the owner, or manager) who do not listen to the customer, and even want to take advantage of customer for even $0.50. Thinking that us customer would be too stupid to pick up his dishonesty. 3 times.

Very hard to get a decent lunch & decided on a tasty Reuben Sandwich at ‘RockSalt’-Bay Road, Brighton. Rye bread is delicious and crunchy on edges but quite firm to eat; pickles and Mayo substantial- it’s a good choice for lunch here. Personally, the side salad could have been slightly more tasty, as the bland carrot tasted like it was (2) day old & dry. Overall, pretty good for $18.00, perhaps a nice little fresh balsamic dressing on a fresh salad would have been a breeze option to match the Reuben sandwich. Quick Service & pleasant Staff.

They served a really burnt parma which I discovered under all that cheese and of course the sides which are noticeable. They should not have served it in the first place thinking they could cover it up! So I sent it back and in the mean time they offered a bowl of chips to munch on whilst waiting for another Parma to which I agreed to. When the 2nd parma arrived it was a little burnt on the sides but good enough to eat. Giving 3 stars is reasonable since they offered complementary chips whilst waiting.

Late yesterday afternoon (6/08/2014) my boyfriend and I wandered through Brighton in search of a nice establishment in which to eat. We finally came across Rocksalt Cafe and upon closer inspection, it seemed like the best possible option.

The food was good and the waitresses treated us respectfully and were very professional.

It was upon placing our payment that our dining experience was completely ruined. We walked up to a tall male waiter at the coffee machine, who had black thick-rimmed glasses (we did not get a name). He seemed utterly disinterested in us and treated the transaction as an arduous chore, not part of his job. He was loud - to the point of barking - yet difficult to comprehend. He didn't smile, say "thank you", nor ask us how our meal was. He ripped the receipt violently and stuffed it in my hand. I have never experienced such disdain from a waiter before in my entire life. An otherwise pleasant evening turned sour during a thirty-second interaction with this man. We were left shocked and spent a long time trying to understand what just occurred. Did I do something wrong? Did I not gather the money expediently enough? Was my business simply not welcome at Rocksalt? All these questions continue to permeate my mind. One thing is certain, though, we will dine elsewhere when visiting the otherwise lovely suburb...

Wow, wow, wow ! The most amazing seafood linguini I've ever eaten. My 29 year old daughter and I went to Rocksalt on Wednesday night, sat inside but right next to the open air window (amazing spot perched above the footpath) and both ordered the seafood linguini which has tiger prawns, mussels, calamari & fresh fish tossed in lemon & extra virgin olive oil w/ fresh chilli, cherry tomatoes, garlic & parsley. It was simply out of this world - perfect balance of pasta and a really generous amount of seafood - and just delicious (we asked for some extra chilli on the side which came with chilli oil - yum). We loved it (and left with extremely full bellies and a massive smile on our faces after an amazing meal).

Service from Fernando and his team was warm, efficient and friendly. And an extra bonus is they are BYO.

Looking forward to heading back to...
