Not my first time at Square & Compass cafe in East Melbourne, but each time I am left thoroughly impressed and satisfied. The cafe is locally owned and operated, which is always a plus in my book. The staff were friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home. One of the standout features of this cafe is the coffee - they serve Vacation Coffee, which is a local roaster and it was delicious to say the least. The flat white was bang-on, resulting in a smooth and flavourful cup of coffee. But the coffee isn't the only thing that impresses me - the food is also top-notch. They have a great selection of breakfast and lunch options, all made with high-quality ingredients. The menu doesn't get rotate too often, aside from seasonal add ons, and few changes here and there. In addition to the food and coffee, the cafe has a great atmosphere. It's a cozy and intimate space, with a rustic and charming decor. It's the perfect spot for a casual brunch with friends or a solo coffee break. Overall, I highly recommend Square & Compass cafe in East Melbourne. The locals running it, excellent coffee, and delicious food make this cafe a must-visit. I will definitely be returning in the future.

Rating 4.5 / 5 What one does after running a Marathon? Brunches!! That's what we do and the closest option was Square and Compass. Quite a crowded morning, we had to wait for almost 15 minutes to get a table. This place has amazing vibe. Attendants are friendly and helpful, music is good and coffee is excellent. Ordered a Potatoes Roesti with Salmon, Laksa Fried Rice, Chicken Schnitzel and Omelette Easily, the smoked salmon was the winning dish of the day. Good flavors going quite well with each other. Second best was the Fried Rice. It was yummy and nicely spiced, though couldn't see much of chicken. Schnitzel and Omelette were pretty simple and easy food and had not had much going with it. We definitely loved the food and the prices are quite decent to taste and portions. They have Vegan and Vegetarian options but quite limited.

We visited Square and Compass for brunch with a friend who has recently moved nearby. I was suitably impressed by the buzzing atmosphere and the space that seemed to continue to extend. From the storefront it looks tiny but there are quite a number of tables inside and they were almost fully occupied upon our arrival. I ordered the bircher with dehydrated fruits and my husband the open omelette both of which were quite tasty albeit not quite as stunningly presented as they appeared on Instagram. Our friend had the smoked salmon potato hash which was a more generous serve than the other two but overall we enjoyed our light meal

The cafe is located in East of Melbourne where many office buildings are there and not too many cafes around in this area which makes the business even better. The design was minimalist, modern and an open kitchen right next to the table set up where guests can catch a glimpse of all the action. The service was great and attentive.

We went there in the morning on the weekday and surprisingly it was really busy. Many people came to have breakfast and had take away coffee. We ordered cappuccino, mocha for $4.50 and eeg & bacon roll ** it was nicely done but not extraordinary, we would be expecting this as we saw many people had breakfast in this cafe.

We enjoyed the coffee, the mocha and cappuccino were really great. Unfortunately, it was over charge for a small/regular size coffee (*tiny size). The small/regular size coffee in this cafe is smaller than the other places and cost the same price as other great coffee maker cafes.

Service : 4.0 Speed : 4.0 Taste : 4.0 Price : 2.0 Single Origin : 👎

Yay : Interior design, wide open kitchen, food and coffee Nay : Price of the coffee, tiny...

After a really stressful and difficult day, I thought I’d surprise my Mrs with a coffee and a desert but I suppose if you’re new to this cafe, you’re not priority. 1pm today. There were 2 people - only 2 people including myself. I walked in waited patiently to order my coffee next with my mask and scanned myself in - thought I did the right thing. 3 new customers walk in whilst I was waiting, the guy taking orders makes quick eye contact with me and chooses to ignore me altogether and continued to take the others order.!! What’s your thought process? There’s no menu on the wall to look at, there’s literally no other reason anyone would queue up except to get a drink. Maybe you should add a sign that we prioritise regular patrons and don’t care for new faces? I’m not sure what other reason you could have for making eye contact, the turning away to serve people who’ve clearly just walked thru the frkn...
