Writing this is support of a Lygon street icon and highly recommend this Thai Restaurant for anyone wanting a well-priced, authentic Thai cuisine.

Whilst we are a regular customer, we have moved far away and it is so sad coming back to Lygon street and seeing the closed restaurants. However, Thai City is an icon and hidden gem that should be high on everyone’s list to visit. They may not have the most up to date decor, but they are true to what a Thai restaurant should be. Excellent, authentic Thai recipes, huge menu and consistent taste.

All of their food is great but these are ones you may not have tried as do not translate well to English…. I highly recommend their goong cha nam pla (raw spicy prawns that need to be tried as JUST like Thailand but it is a little spicy), Tom KHA Gai (best coconut soup in the area), moo dat diaw (individual pieces of dehydrated pork that is amazing with sticky rice - great for the kids as it is without spices and soooooo tasty). They has a fried barramundi with apple salad and cashews - it is to die for (noting they will even chop off the head for those who do not like to see the full fish). Their Thai milk tea and coconut juice are also fabulous staples for the table.

Great to see Khun Wassy and family still operating and delivering Thai food the way it should be. Karen, Sean...

An absolutely delightful meal. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, not only with their service, but also giving helpful advice for plants to go in the city.

We ordered some curry puffs for starters, then a chicken yellow curry and a chicken cashew nut stir fry, split between four of us, for our mains. It fed us perfectly well, leaving us full and happy. The food was beautifully cooked and was some of the best we've ever had.

By splitting the meals and only ordering one drink, we kept the bill under $80 (

FRIENDLY SERVICE, GREAT AL FRESCO EXPERIENCE AND QUALITY FOOD Went to Thai City before an iMax movie on a Friday evening. Four of us sat in the outside seating area and enjoyed the buzz of Lygon Street as we dined. Staff we efficient and friendly. We shared a few entrees (always a good idea with Thai food) and were pleased with each dish presented. For mains we had a dish each. mine was Chicken Pad Thai - just the right balance of heat and flavours :) I recommend ordering a Thai beer in preference to wines (the latter being fairly ordinary). We didn't have time for desserts on this visit but be back to try soon! People with mobility issues will be fine in the al fresco area and just a small step to negotiate if you choose to...

Thai City Restaurant is an absolute gem, and I have to say, the food is beyond delicious! From the first bite to the last, every dish was bursting with incredible flavors that left my taste buds dancing with delight. And speaking of delightful, Paula, one of the restaurant's wonderful staff members, made the experience even more memorable. Her recommendations perfectly complemented the outstanding cuisine, creating a dining experience I won't soon forget. I can't stress enough how scrumptious the food at Thai City Restaurant is – it's a culinary masterpiece that's sure to leave you craving more!

Food is very small portions, left feeling hungry despite buying 4 dishes between 2 people. Their pineapple fried rice lists squid as an ingredient but isn't present in the dish. Their house recommendation of cashew chicken has some weird sauce that tastes wrong. There was maybe 10 prawn crackers for $5 -- a huge bag is $3, what a rip. The tomka soup was apparently decent according to the other person but I didn't really like. Other person agrees that all other dishes were bad and lacked good flavour. Avoid this place.
