Writing this is support of a Lygon street icon and highly recommend this Thai Restaurant for anyone wanting a well-priced, authentic Thai cuisine.
Whilst we are a regular customer, we have moved far away and it is so sad coming back to Lygon street and seeing the closed restaurants. However, Thai City is an icon and hidden gem that should be high on everyone’s list to visit. They may not have the most up to date decor, but they are true to what a Thai restaurant should be. Excellent, authentic Thai recipes, huge menu and consistent taste.
All of their food is great but these are ones you may not have tried as do not translate well to English…. I highly recommend their goong cha nam pla (raw spicy prawns that need to be tried as JUST like Thailand but it is a little spicy), Tom KHA Gai (best coconut soup in the area), moo dat diaw (individual pieces of dehydrated pork that is amazing with sticky rice - great for the kids as it is without spices and soooooo tasty). They has a fried barramundi with apple salad and cashews - it is to die for (noting they will even chop off the head for those who do not like to see the full fish). Their Thai milk tea and coconut juice are also fabulous staples for the table.

Four of us sat in the outside seating area and enjoyed the buzz of Lygon Street as we dined. Staff we efficient and friendly. We shared a few entrees (always a good idea with Thai food) and were pleased with each dish presented. For mains we had a dish each. mine was Chicken Pad Thai - just the right balance of heat and flavours :) I recommend ordering a Thai beer in preference to wines (the latter being fairly ordinary). We didn't have time for desserts on this visit but be back to try soon! People with mobility issues will be fine in the al fresco area and just a small step to negotiate if you choose to...
