Disappointing experience. I thought I’d found the perfect spot for a Sunday date night, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations. We were initially impressed by the beautiful interior and cosy lighting… such a promising start.
We ordered a bottle of wine and a few small plates: oysters, olives, burrata, and cheese toasties. Not long after, our waitress came over, very apologetically, to let us know they were out of bread. She saw my disappointment and kindly offered to make a toastie using leftover baguette, which I appreciated.
But things continued to go downhill. She returned again to say they only had five oysters available, not the six I ordered. With such a small menu, having two items unavailable already felt like too much.
When the burrata arrived, it was served with slices of stale, rock-hard baguette. Untoasted too though toasting might’ve salvaged it. The oysters were borderline lukewarm, served without a slice of lemon and with barely any vinaigrette.
The improvised cheese toastie came out on two thick, dry slices of bread with barely any cheese…perhaps they’d run out of that too?
On top of all this, the service was slow. The food took forever to come out, despite staff standing around chatting.
We ended up leaving with a half-finished bottle of wine, feeling pretty let down. A shame, because the space has potential, but sadly, the experience...
Read moreHave been here before and loved it however lastnight was some of the rudest customer service I have ever experienced. To start the night a glass was shattered with pieces falling in my hair, down my top - of course accidents happen but no apology. We felt for the whole night we were putting our wait staff out by asking for water and other drinks. Twice in a row our wines were poured unevenly and quite stingy pours to be honest - We brought this to her attention and she commented one of our other pours was generous and just walked off!? As we went to pay another wait staff very rudely asked my friend to move her pram out of the way, made us all feel very uncomfortable. We mentioned this as we paid and had a cider taken off the bill (cheapest thing ordered all night) and the staff member really didn’t seem to care that we were made to feel so awful. Not sure they will even care about this review but we won’t be returning. Such a shame as I did love this place and can see other positive reviews, we just got unlucky with the rude customer service that ruined an otherwise...
Read moreHmm, maybe 3 stars is a bit low, as it was a good wee joint, but I've been to a few wine bars and just felt The Alps could be better. Service wise, good. And mabes (thats a word okay) I expect service to make me smile. Here, I felt it was a Uni co-op heh heh. Just here for a job thanks. Food, got the chacuterie board and cheese n breads, and all nice. As it feels like a wine cellar than bar, maybe the food aint the focus. Atmosphere, well Zip and I settled on the footpath, so the vibe includes traffic, thus we lost that convivial ambience by being inside, but as I said, all up- pretty good. Really appreciated one of the staff bringing out a water bowl for Zip and she seemed quite bubbly versus the waiter dude I had. I do like a little personality, so maybe the cool guy approach is for others. Anyhoo..I did see quite a few couples going for dates and the Rosè's I had were good too, so should be worth another try 👍 Zip spam included Zip has a nose for goid wine...
