I am shocked at the service. It was so horrible. From the poor knowledge of their own beers to no idea what the difference between their red wines were - it started off as a disaster.
Now, here is the clincher! We booked on Forked, I had seen them on the website a fair bit so we took up the offer. It was a 30% saving, while the discount wasn’t the main reason we booked - we thought we’d give them a go. The woman acknowledged our booking and didn’t give us the discount. So my partner told me to forget about the discount. However, I felt seeing as they’d been been clueless from the moment we had arrived I would approach the bar and question the waitress. She fumbled around, questions me on the booking and then ignored me for a couple of minutes. When showing her my booking on my phone she then showed the bar tender who again then asked for any other proof of our booking which we already gave him. At this point he went to the calculator and they attempted to calculate 30% which he got wrong three times. He then came back to me before giving me the difference and said ‘next time tell us you booked on a discounted website.’ Which everyone at the bar heard. I said I did and that the woman had ignored the information. He then gave me the money and shoo’d his hand at me waving me away. Saying in a rude manor “have a nice day!” I’ve never been spoken to so rudely.
The food wasn’t first class - nor would you expect it to be at a ‘American Saloon rip off’ but that is the least of their concerns with staff like that. Won’t be...

If you're a bit of a bar-hopper like me, imagine a cross between The Beaufort in Carlton, and Hatts & Tatts in South Melbourne, and the Silverlake Social is the result.
There's usually a great vibe when you go in - the lighting is at the right level, the music never exceeds the general hubbub of conversation, and everyone's having a good time!
Food is American-inspired (Silverlake's an area in California as I understand) and delicious. Let's face it, burgers and burritos aren't exactly groundbreaking, but the quality:price ratio is bang on.
But when it comes to drinks, the Silverlake Social really shines: a selection of rotating American craft beers, a quirky backbar of spirits featuring rare American spirits with loads of local small- batch producers, and a couple of delicious cocktails on tap, all make for a drinking experience that covers all bases. They do a Happy Hour in the evenings after work, and weekend afternoons.
Entertainment provided by pool table, a couple of rare pinball machines, and an arcade cabinet. Great for big groups AND date night.
If you haven't been, you're missing out. Do yourself a favour and go meet your new favourite bar. Also, buy me a Blue Moon pot for the introduction when you see me there....
Read moreWent for a spontaneous dinner after a couple long days at work, looking for burger to eat down Chapel street; thought of the usual burger joints to go to, but wanted to try somewhere new. Having played pool before, and visited for happy hour, we went to try Silverlake for some food, and we were not disappointed one bit! We both got burgers (one with sweet potato chips, the other regular) and they were so freshly made it was amazing! They took a little while to come out but well worth it. Partnered with a beer and the ever so friendly staff, will defiantly be back next time we are looking for a burger on...
