3.5/5 overall. Gelato - 4/5. Customer service/customers/environment: 3/5.
Messina is my third go-to gelato place. I would recommend pistachio praline, it tastes great. Sometimes a hit and miss with the serving sizes though. Sometimes a nice amount and sometimes a very small one scoop. Best to make a visit during quieter periods.
As Messina gets quite busy, some customers need to be more considerate of the other customers waiting and be mindful of how many tasters they ask for/try and not hold up the line. Maybe the staff could also limit the amount of tasters per person during super busy periods via a friendly sign or something else. Staff could also be more attentive on who's next in line. One time I was waiting in line, but one couple behind me went forward to look at the flavours (which is fine) but later essentially pushed in and were served first. I wasn't in a rush or anything and it was busy for the employees so it wasn't too bad, but just a suggestion!
The service and customer environment really brings down my overall experience with Messina so I personally think it's slightly overhyped even though the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMelbourne has some of the best ice cream places in the world, and I have reviewed and raved about them, and I still stand by all of those reviews, but this place takes it to a whole new level. The traditional flavours are superb, all of them, their sorbets are excellent too, but I am really into their weird and wonderful flavour combinations. They had Hot Cross Bun ice cream actually in Hot Cross Buns for Easter ! Their weird combinations are weird enough to satisfy me while still being delicious as it hit your mouth. Salty and sweet combinations. Savoury with fruit mixes, and they change every week, so there is always something new to be delighted with. I recently found out they had their own creative kitchens up in Sydney where the sole goal was to come up with new flavours and combinations. They also have digestion multi course ice cream dinners that are like nothing you have ever tasted. It's my place to go when I'm feeling low - it makes me smile and feel so...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRecently came to Messina Windsor for the first time. We have had their ice-cream before and instead of Pidapipo we chose Messina. Won't be making that mistake again, as we were wanting to try a few ice-creams and were confused as to which flavours correlated to what. The employees pointed at the signs and said "they're all in order" not helping us as it was really quite confusing, after asking another time what the flavour was we got the same answer. It was pretty unhelpful and careless attitude. The employee's name dealing with us, started with the letter E. In no way do we think that anyone should lose their employment over this, but some serious training needs to go into how to deal with customers during busy times, and proper etiquette. Melbourne is a food hub, and Melbournians take pride in their foodie adventures and so...
