Great location for MCG pre and post game catch-ups. I had nearly 20 come along for the pre-match dinner before Carlton’s elimination final. The food should have started just after our 5.45pm arrival. As it was we had 3 rounds of chips before any other food arrived. My poor pescatarian friend had to wolf down a vegetarian pasta as we were leaving at 7.30pm. The rest of us tired of the 2 rounds of chicken wings and the pasta wasn’t something people could eat easily standing. The bao buns were tasty and much needed. I didn’t see and meatballs, arancinis, croquettes or wontons that are on their menu. Anyway we loved having our own back room but most left feeling hungry and not have got their value for money. 19 @ $45 = $855. That’s a lot of money for not much. Pity. Maybe the trick is to book earlier than 5.45pm but that’s difficult on a work day. The manager had phoned to say that we need to order straight away on arrival but that was easier said than done. Regardless we enjoyed the pre-match excitement and buzz there, and Carlton won so as is our tradition, we celebrated at the Pullman. Here’s a pick of what everyone was eating at the footy after Tipplers sparse pre-game tapas ‘dinner’. We are just going to have a beer and a pie at the ground this week.

I dropped in for lunch before going to MCG. It was one of the coldest days in August 2017.When I fly down from Sydney I always visit The Tippler . This restaurant bar is excellent with hard working polite staff and a good wine list combined with an interesting modestly priced menu. I ordered a steak with honey mustard sauce and a bowl of roasted vegetables. The sliced steak was just warm and the sauce had an awefull rancid flavour which my guest tasted and said " do not eat it !!" But the steak tasted great and was very tender . My guest loved her meal. This place is modestly priced , their huge " footy lunch " special at $25 pp looked fabulous. The Tippler building has a long history of being a reastaurant going back to the 1950s . It was once run by the famous Melbourne artist Moira and her mural art has been preserved ( see photo). I look forward to returning but I hope they get another recipe for their honey mustard sauce.

I had my 30th birthday at Tippler & co. in the private dining area upstairs and we had a wonderful time!!! Gus and the team at Tippler and co. hosted 45 of my guests (friends and family). We had the private dining area all for ourselves for lunch. The serving portions were very generous, food was delicious, Gus made sure that all my guests had their dietary requirements met, as I had a mix of adults and children attending. The staff was great at communicating, serving and making us feel very well taken care of. Parking was a little tricky but if you let your friends and family know in advance to public transport to the restaurant you will be just fine. It's an easy access from Melbourne CBD and from Richmond (very central). I would highly recommend Tippler and Co. and I would go there again for a meal! (The gnocchi and the fries there are an absolute banger, you have have to have the gnocchi!!!)

Had a dinner meeting here and we were greeted by the owner, Gus, who happily took care of us. We came on Wednesday so I ordered their special Wednesday menu, mussels marinara spaghetti (which unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of as I was hungry). I also ordered their Tippler fried chicken and blood orange spritz as my drink. The foods were really delicious and I finished them all in no time. Overall, it was a really nice experience. I will definitely go back next time to try their other menus on different days.
