After being told at 7.55pm at the Bridge Fish and Chips further down the street that they were closed despite us standing in the shop looking at their menu board for a couple of minutes, we headed down to Tommy Ruff Fish bar for our 1st visit. The place was packed as expected but friendly and polite staff if we were prepared to wait 5-10 minutes they would get us a seat another bar before moving us to a table. Within a couple of minutes we were shown to the bar where we proceeded to place our order and pay using their app. 5 minutes later they moved us to a table with several wait staff smiling and asking if we were happy and had ordered. A few minutes later our drinks arrived. After about 20 minutes of placing our order a waitress brought 2 meals to us which were it ours and rightly so she took them away. A few minutes later a male who appeared to work at the bar came over to confirm our order. 15 minutes later a young waiter came over and again confirmed our order before apologising and offering us a complimentary drink (which we declined as we still had our drink) for the delay and said shouldn't be long. 47 minutes after we ordered and paid, 1 of our meals came out (Flake and chips) the chips were stone cold and the didn't look that hot either. After confirming the chips were cold and wondering when the other meal was going to come out, we got up and walked out. Other than one of the staff at the bar saying thank you, nobody else spoke to us. I said to the last person at the bar thanks and not to worry about the food not coming and to keep what was charged. Given the number of staff that spoke to us while we were there I thought someone may have tried to stop us to talk to us but not the case. Im guessing someone got our meals the same time we were brought someone elses. Will we go back? As much as the initial experience was good, the fact that we still hadnt received 1 meal and the other 1 was cold after 47 minutes after we had paid, i doubt we will go back. Even the couple on the table beside us were amused with...
Read moreMonday at 8pm we decided to give Tommy Ruff a try for dinner. It was a lovely warm, summers evening and the main street was quite busy. We walked up the street towards Tommy Ruff and for quite a distance we could see a vacant table. It was still vacant when we got there so we sat down. I got my phone out and started looking at their menu and a waitress came over and we were promptly told we could not sit there as they had other people waiting for a table. This would have been at least 6 to 7 minutes from us seeing it was vacant and getting there, sitting down and checking the menu on our phones. We never argued as we were shocked when this table was vacant for so long and we had been sitting for at least 3 minutes by this time. Then another waiter came over while the girl was telling us we could not sit there and he jumped in and started telling us the same saying; "you cannot just sit down as we have others waiting for a table." NOWHERE did it say YOU MUST BOOK. If they want to do it as a bookings only, THEN MAKE IT VERY CLEAR. Put up an A frame sign saying, BOOKINGS ONLY. They both told us, you are more than welcome to wait for a table. NO THANK YOU. First and last time. Thank god they were the losers as we ended up spending over $200 at a much better venue. It was their loss and our gain. Disgusted to see a business work this way. If it had a sign saying you must book, then I can understand it, but not when this table was sitting empty for so long and then we were sitting down for so long too and then they do this to customers. If I could give ZERO...
Read moreTommy Ruff, you've done it again! This fish and chips shop is a culinary gem that will leave you hooked from the very first bite. I had the pleasure of indulging in their signature fish and chips, and let me tell you, it was a revelation. The fish was cooked to a golden, crispy perfection, with a tender and flaky interior that simply melted in my mouth. The batter was light and crunchy, with a subtle seasoning that enhanced the natural flavors of the fish.
But the real showstopper was the mussels pot - a heavenly concoction of succulent mussels smothered in a rich, creamy garlic butter sauce that had me scraping the bottom of the bowl for every last drop. The mussels were plump and tender, with a subtle sweetness that paired perfectly with the savory sauce.
The chips (or fries, for you non-Aussies) were crispy and fluffy, with a perfect balance of salt and vinegar. And the service? Top-notch! Friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable staff who clearly passion about serving up the freshest, tastiest seafood in town.
Tommy Ruff, you've set the bar high for fish and chips shops everywhere. If you're a seafood lover, a foodie, or just looking for a delicious meal that will leave you feeling like you've struck gold, look no further. Get yourself to Tommy Ruff and taste the magic...
