(Apologies. Was so hungry. Forgot to take photos before we started!!!). busy sunny Sunday in St Kilda. my oldest spied this burger place. and we were in. no fuss ordering. and had intentions to eat in. but it was glorious outside. and I mean the beach is right there. so we ordered. told it was 25 minutes. fair based on the level of busy. headed to the beach for a shady spot. and then went back to pick up. and it was very worth the wait. family found a table in the shade. (Bonus!!!). and we as if we were on death row. these burgers are legit. Big. juicy. and mad flavour. had the double. wife had a battered fish burger. and by all accounts was amazing. youngest had a smoky cheeseburger. and he was all over it. solid chips. all round a very good experience. (No GF bun option - so are the insides with a knife and fork. not disappointed!!!)

To say I’m disappointed will be an understatement. When eating the squid rings I can see something attached to it which is clearly a hair. So I took it to the staff and said there’s a hair on this. The guy looks at it and says it’s not a hair. I say well what do you think it is. Then he gets me to remove it and put it in his hand. He says oh that’s the crumb. I’m almost 30 years old I know what crumbs look like and they definitely don’t look like a strand of hair. First, finding a hair is bad enough but then you would expect the staff to be apologetic but instead of that I get treated like an idiot. If you don’t want a foreign object in your meal and want good customer service then don’t even bother to waste your time coming here. Now excuse me while I rush to the supermarket to try to find the brand new style of hair shaped crumb.

Tommy Tucker’s is a fish and chip shop on Acland street ther has a variety of seafood packs and an offering of salads. The most popular pack that includes chips and salad along with fish of the day is good value at $15. You grab a table and order at the counter. All of this was quite seamless. My friends who ordered their meal directly before me received their order quite quickly. I waited an extra 10 or so minutes after them. I understand good things take time but was unsure of the delay as we ordered the same meals at the same time. When I asked the staff politely how long she thought my meal would take she responded “I don’t know” and went on her merry way. It seemed a bit stand offish for such a simple question. The food was good however I feel some of the staff members lack some basic customer service skills.

Good fresh fish! But…

I have been a customer for years and can attest to a habit of poor customer service, though sometimes with a smile! It can also be difficult to order/pay when the person serving won’t get off the phone to engage properly. It means you have to check your order before leaving to receive any additional sauce ordered (because it won’t be there). It’s the guys that do the food and announce your order that are particularly unfriendly and impersonal. They don’t check to see if your order is okay and evidently don’t care…

As for the food, the chips are hit and miss - usually miss - and the “favourites” have become overpriced for the declined portion/quality. The saving grace is the fresh fish is usually really good and a very decent portion! Really great flake, nice and thick. It’s what kept me coming back. GREAT FISH!

Yesterday though, I received some chips that were literally bogged down in oil, all stuck together, super soggy and almost cold (I did take away but I’m only a few mins drive from the place and I was there to collect before the order was ready so it’s not like the transit time is to blame). They were the worst chips I think I have ever been served in my life but I hadn’t the energy to go back and was genuinely so hungry I stupidly ate some… which promptly resulted in food poisoning! Horrible night thanks to those chips. Unless it was the fish? I don’t know. Last straw though, serving chips like that and making me ill. Sad to say I won’t be going back any time soon. Which annoys me because truly, that flake runs circles around Hunky Dory’s. Now I have to find a new go-to.

The owner/manager needs to hire more caring and diligent staff that care about food handling and the quality produced, not to mention some people that recognise that their demeanour and customer engagement does effect the business. It’s not all about the food. If you’re cold towards people and careless about what you serve them, it’s a turn off. Harder to forgive food poisoning when you can tell no one cared about the food served.

Maybe I’ll go for the fish again in 6-12mths but I’ll never forget those rancid chips making me ill. Sorry, Tommy Tucker’s. I have been a customer for years so I do hope you get...

Ok so I got a 'cheeseburger style burger with extra lettuce'🍔 from here last night.. Really flashy CB, it had onions, pickles, tomato, 1thick beef patty, & dressed in 2kinds of really nice sauce, but not to the point it was soggy, (& I even took it home to eat with 30secs in the microwave), & still it stayed really nice & unsoggy, which is important to me.!!👍 Was also wrapped well in paper inside the box, so u can leave it wrapped as u eat it so it doesn't slide n go everywhere like some burgers if u know what I mean.!!🙄👎 It was def one of the best burgers I've ever had, I would 'DEFINITELY RECOMMEND' trying this place if u LOVE good designer burgers.. And they also do Fish n Chips obviously too, which I haven't tried yet.. But I have to say the burgers are abs premo,👌 def stop in here next time you're up for some yummy, well priced take away people.!! My new 'go to' for burger nights.!😃👍 Thanks very...
