The perfect 'Third Place' for a quick afternoon bite, or a heart-warming dinner.

We've visited here 3 times and every visit without fail, Sam (the owner) greets us with a friendly smile and ensures we're always taken care of.

The menu changes every couple of weeks, but don't be mistaken, the food will remain scrumptious!

Lunch:

For their Cafe menu, you can't go wrong with any of their focaccia sandwiches. Every single one of them are bursting with flavour that'll quell your lunch munchies.

Personal favourite: the Mortadella sandwich (which has an incredible mozzarella cheese pull!)

Dinner:

Starters: Prawns & Sesame Toast (made with Australian Banana Prawns) + Scallop (with Black Garlic Butter)

The prawn toast was amazing, although I would've loved a bit more sesame (guess I'll have to go back for more! ).

As for the scallop, it was the most flavourful we've ever had and this will definitely be our new go-to when we're craving scallops.

Side: Potato Fries with Homemade Cheese Sauce

Special shout out to the Potato Fries with an unbelievable homemade cheese sauce. I'm not kidding when I tell you that despite being the most 'conventional' dish on the menu, this is one you shouldn't skip out on.

After her first bite, my partner immediately remarked "This is so good, It reminds me of my childhood!"

As soon as I tried it, I knew exactly what she talking about and it makes total sense when you find out that Sam uses his own potatoes for the dish.

The potatoes were so fluffy with a light crisp, and the cheese sauce changed my mind about well... cheese sauce. I've never been the biggest fan of most cheese sauces, but this one hits different.

Main: Roasted Duck Breast

We opted for the Roast Duck for our main which was pan seared to perfection, accompanied by a delectable miso salsa and burnt peach for that little kick of sweetness to bring the whole dish together.

Drinks: Sam's Special

As advertised, my partner asked Sam for a slightly sweet drink with a hint of sourness, and he worked his magic. He came back with a persimmon in hand, paired with Bourbon, Cognac and lemon. My goodness, it was honestly one of the most refreshing drinks I've ever had the pleasure of tasting.

Dessert: Black Sesame Ice Cream in a Cup

I've had my fair share of Black Sesame Gelato / Ice cream in the past, but I kid you not this is the best by faaaaar. It's incredibly creamy, packed full of that nutty sesame flavour, and even incorporates whole sesame seeds which adds a pinch of crunch that leaves you wanting more. At first glance, I thought the portion size was a bit small, but honestly it was a perfect amount to cap off the night!

Atmosphere / Conclusion:

Overall, Una Una undoubtedly brings a kind of warmth you can only experience at a friend's house or your go-to comfort food spot.

1000% coming back for more, day or night.

This new spot just opened in Box Hill and you definitely have to check them out. In the mornings they have your caffeine sorted as well as serving hefty focaccia sandwiches, that are super flavourful (& affordable). By night time they turn into a bistro (only sometimes).

We had: Chicken, parsley, mayo, onion, rocket, pickles, Swiss cheese and Pecorino ($15) Mortadella, Piccalilli, mayo, onion, pickle, mozzarella ($13) Yellow fin tuna, mustard, lemon, onion, pickles, dill, parsley, mayo ,Swiss cheese and rocket ($13) Miso Mushroom, mustard, rocket, Swiss and Brie cheese ($13) Italian whipped cream coffee ($8) Jasmine cream cup ($9.5)

I definitely highly recommend that you stop by for some sandwiches because they are probably the most flavourful sandwiches that I’ve had in a really long time. My favourite is definitely the miso mushroom as well as the mortadella, my partner really likes the chicken salad And the tuna melt. We found all the sandwiches to have really different flavour profiles, that work well and have quite a lot of filling in each. They are also really affordable as well!

The vibes were really nice, there’s a really nice aesthetic to the place which makes it very inviting.

Came across this restaurant through Instagram and followed them for awhile because of their moonlight cocktails and fine food (only on weekends Friday to Sunday) but they are also a cafe during the day everyday except Wednesdays.

Entree: Prawns & Sesame Toast Scallop ✨ (FAVOURITE) Roasted Beef Marrow

Mains: Chef’s Special | Venus Bay Pipi’s Chef’s Special | Braised Beef Short Rib Roasted Duck Breast ✨ (MUST TRY)

From the food, to the service and the vibe of the restaurant; it was such a 10/10 experience. It is a very intimate restaurant with limited tables, so you will always be looked after by the owner and his team which is so lovely and made the experience much more enjoyable. There wasn’t a single dish that was a miss. If I had more belly space, I would have just ordered everything from the menu because it was so good. Nice place to catch with friends, date night or if you’re feeling a spontaneous dinner, Una Una is the place!

Will definitely visit again and want to try their cafe menu...
