After trying for 2 months to make a reservation, in March I finally got a reservation for May.
One of my group is pregnant, so I emailed Marumo to let them know, and ask if they could accommodate. Chef Moe replied after 1 day and assured me it would not be an issue.
Upon arrival, the waiter ran through the menu with our group, then asked whether certain items would be OK for my sister. Chef Moe swapped the sashimi for pork goyze, left off the egg Roe and changed other dishes to accommodate. Throughout the whole night, the staff were attentive. The service was EXCELLENT.
Now onto the food. I'm not the biggest fan of Japanese cuisine, mainly eating sushi and chicken katsu. I'd heard such good reviews from a friend about Marumo I had to try it myself.
A cured squid salad was given in a small cup first. The flavour was amazing and while barely a taste, I wanted more. The first course was an egg tofu, clam, wakame and leek in a broth. The broth was the perfect mix of salty, sweet and flavoursome.
Next came loster, quinoa and inari. Amazing. The portions were just enough to taste all the flavors properly, but keep you wanting more. I'm usually a big eater so I was hoping I wouldn't still be hungry by the end of the night.
I definitely want. Course after course came out, perfectly portioned, perfectly presented, perfectly explained and perfectly balanced. My two favorite dishes (I couldn't choose just one), were the Tasmanian salmon belly sushi, and the Margaret River sirloin. Each bite was a flavor explosion in my mouth. Each mouthful, I experienced different textures.
Chef Moe is a master. His staff are perfectly trained, courteous and knowledgeable. The price was a steal. I've had a similar degustation menu at Nobu. This was better. I have a booking for June locked in, and I...
Read moreA dining experience worth waiting for. After waiting almost 3 years to successfully book a spot for dinner, my wife & I can vouch for the wonderful degustation experience that Chef Moe and his team do at Marumo.
From the moment we stepped in, to the time we exit 3 hrs later, we were made to feel welcome. The service was not rushed so allocate at least 2.5-3hrs for the dining.
The menu is seasonal and Chef Moeâs winter menu was a winner for us at $80 pp. The restaurant is very intimate and only offer around 20 pp capacity & they were very accommodating to our request to bring our newborn along in a pram so that we can breastfeed our baby between course.
The restaurant is BYO, and you will definitely enjoy the 3 hrs dining experience as time does fly when you are with the one you love. All the courses were tastefully curated and delicious, and the only complaint my wife had was that she would have loved more serving of their sashimi and seared Wagyu beef. :)
We will be counting down to the next booking opening for their Spring menu.
Tips 1: booking is very difficult as the other reviews have already indicated. You just have to keep trying and refreshing your browser when the booking opens on the dot. Tips 2: as itâs only a single seating of up to 3 hrs a night, try to book the earliest 7pm before the other diners arrived at their later booking times if you like to enjoy a bit of quiet...

*Appetizer - Squid salad (I think itâs pre-made) *Smoked ocean trout - Average, although the server warned us about it being hot, it turned out to be lukewarm. It seemed not freshly fried, but still had a satisfying crunch. *Duck breast soba - The duck breast wasn't the most delicious I've had; the texture was too soft. *Glacier 51 tooth fish - The fish had a crispy exterior and tender on the inside, accompanied by burdock shreds, which tasted great. *Chef's selection sashimi - The slices of sashimi were too small and cut too thinly. I only had three small pieces, making it difficult to judge their freshness. *Tasmania salmon belly sushi - The salmon on top was too thin, making it difficult to appreciate the texture, but the fried prawn inside the sushi stole the show. *Harvey beef cheek - I must say I've never had meat this delicious before. it was incredibly tender! I didn't have high expectations initially, but this dish turned out to be the best one I had. *Green tea sweet potato & miso - This dessert had a unique flavor. After the rich meat dishes, it was a perfect combination.
The 7-course Omakase is $95ppl and the restaurant only has 24 seats, requiring reservations for dining.
I highly recommend giving it a try and...
