My experience with vanilla slice extends across 4 different states, with over 10 bakeries in question. This store's vanilla slice comes across averagely.

The flavours were as expected, not spectacular but ok. Having seen the slice, I was surprised that the chocolate drizzle wasn't present on the top! This would add large volumes to the presentation aspect of the slice. The consistency in the warm summers day was lacklustre, melting before I even had a chance to photograph it. This made it even more difficult to consume. The ratios of custard to icing to pastry were pretty well done, maybe the tiniest bit excesssive in the custard aspect (this didn't really affect the taste, just in doing this it will help the consumability of the product.)

Overall, 4 out 7 for the vanilla slice

I did also have a steak and onion pie which I have no critiques on....

I enjoy pastries and pies very much and Mockas is on my must visit list for Port Douglas. Tried a few items here over course of 2 visits.

From my most favorite to least. Love both their sausage roll & pork fennel sausage roll- both are yum!! The one with fennel is more herb tasting but nothing overpowering- the fennel is a subtle and good addition.

The standard basic steak and onion- good old fashion pie filling!

Seafood pie- if you like seafood chowder, then this would be one you would enjoy!

Crocodile laksa- not a big fan as there wasnt much of laksa flavour. There was chunk of meat- which texture is a mix of chicken and fish.

Croissant- Nothing special.

Overall- Great pastry, generous filling. Good to drop by and grab a couple of pies (one is not enough! :)) Note- they are...

Popped into this delightful place on a sensational Saturday morning. Our family of 9 enjoyed a delicious amount of pies & treats which included: Bush Kangaroo Pie, Crocodile Laksa Pie, 2x All day Breakfast Pie, Chilli Beef Pie, Steak & Bacon Pie & finally a Surpreme. The feedback from the children describing the pies are: Beyond fabulous, magical, exquisite, exotic & outstanding! (Their words-not mine)😂😂

We also had rocky roads & a chocolate eclair which was beautiful.

Just to add that this place is an award winning bakery & popular with the locals & visitors to the area! 😍🙌🏽

The staff were friendly & was patient when we were deciding on our food.

This place is wonderful! Thank u to all involved! Will visit again soon!...

When in Port Douglas, you can't say you have REALLY been there unless you have had at least one Mocka's pie! Mocka's are an institution. They have been pleasing locals and tourists since the late 1960s. We remember when they had a shop on Macrossan Street. Prior to that, they were serving their treats out of the Central Hotel. There are plenty of choices but I always love their steak and onion pie. If that's not available, steak and mushroom is also very good. While Port Douglas has changed just a little over the last few decades, it is wonderful to know that Mocka's Pies are a stable and reliable part of the landscape :-) Keep doing what you are doing and don't change a thing! Here are a few photos from the last couple of visits.

Great pie shop with lovely range of pies and quiches. Went there for breakfast and very helpful staff who were happy to do something that wasn’t on the menu. Nice sized pot of tea which makes a change in PD. My only comment is why do cafes serve butter and jam in horrible single use sachets ? Don’t they realise that customers care about the waste in the packaging, yes it’s easy for you but it would be so much nicer if you gave me a pot of butter and jam with no packaging to be thrown away Very reasonable pricing as well
