save your time and money, they have the rudest staff, the worst experience in 40 years of the hospitality industry!! the staff let the chef down, food was beautiful tho a little pricey in a venue that squashes u in and rushes u out!! a 40th birthday surprise celebration where 30 family n friends from all states chose to meet at this location to be met with absolute disregard from staff, after greeting him with birthday song we were approached to be quiet and sit down, followed by staff kicking our chairs out of their way from cramming our 3 tables right near entrance to dining area! we were accused of being intoxicated and bringing our own alcohol after we all caught a shuttle with nothing but the cake, our bankcards n clothes on our backs The manager Luke preceded to ask us to leave after ordering our meals alleging fellow customers complaining, which is unbelievable as the tables near us were in awe of our matching outfits covered in our brothers face, claiming how exciting n loving our family is! there was a loud indian wedding upstairs that far out weighed any noise we may have made within an hour of being there! the manager Luke is an absolute discredit to the company showing no managerial skills to even table plan, communicate, relate or understand what is required to run a venue! clearly if u want a relaxed pleasurable room with a view dinner, this is not the place to go, u will be met with staff that just want your money and dont care about being hospitable at any cost!! our group ranged from 30 to 75 year olds and luke was happy to ask 30 people to leave after eating so he could cram more diners in! absolutely ruined everyone's evening for one hour before we all went up the road where the staff n band there enjoyed our loving family till closing at midnight, clearly obvious 3 staff members at tin shed cost their business a Loss of $3,000 in revenue, a chef does not need floor staff like this!!! fast food outlets need those staff members, no people skills and blatantly rude!! fish n chips on the bank next to it will provide the view uinstead of getting told off for standing and capturing it , love u cairns! tin shed ruins port douglas' good vibe!! UNPROFESSIONAL EXPENSIVE and didnt even have oysters on menu at $44...
Read moreThe Tin Shed presents itself as a community-centric establishment, promoting a ‘not for profit’ ethos. However, there’s a noticeable discrepancy in menu pricing between club members and non-members, which can be a bit confusing. Non-members, in particular, should be prepared for an unexpected $2-3 increase on the wine list, as prices are not disclosed upfront.
One of the standout features of The Tin Shed is its stunning riverside view, which undoubtedly draws in the crowd. Unfortunately, the experience seems to falter from there. The drink prices are higher than those of nearby restaurants, and we found the white wines served were not at an ideal temperature, detracting from the overall enjoyment.
As for the food, it fell short of expectations. We started with oysters, which, while decent, felt overpriced given their size. The main courses left much to be desired; the fisherman’s basket, priced at $39, seemed particularly lacking. The dish felt underwhelming, with the seafood lacking freshness. The mussels, prawns, and bugs appeared pre-prepared rather than freshly cooked, and one of the prawns had a gritty texture that was off-putting. The bugs were tough and lacked flavour.
The batter on the fish was too thick and undercooked, resulting in a cake-like consistency that was unappetizing, while the crumbed calamari was similarly insufficiently cooked. The portion sizes were disappointing, and the accompanying sauces did little to enhance the experience.
Overall, the basic fisherman’s basket, a staple of any seafood restaurant, missed the mark on quality, quantity, and flavour. With a total of $150 spent for our meal, we left feeling the experience did not justify the price, especially when there’s comparable restaurants with similar prices and far superior food without the need for plastic tables and chairs. The Tin Shed has potential, but it needs to elevate its food offerings to match its...
Read moreWalking into this Community Club is not as friendly as any other that I have entered. We were entering for a drink only and were informed we had to sit upstairs as downstairs was for food consumption only. By staff at the front guess, no hello, how are you, no smile, just orders barked at us. So, we go upstairs and wait for a good 5 minutes to be served, as we were the only people up there and the bar staff member was out on the balcony enjoying the view. When she finally looked around after my wife walked out to get her attention, not only did she not know what they served, we finally found out the club does not serve Brandy, Cognac or Coke Zero in any form. We were informed the club, serves Pepsi Max, it is the same as Coke Zero. Sorry, it is not. What is it with clubs and Organizations in Queensland, drink what we tell you, not what you want. Please let me inform you, serve people what they want, and they will spend money. Try to dictate to people what they want because you make more money of things like Pepsi Max and people will walk and you will lose money like you currently are. Like we did that day, one drink only, instead of spending the afternoon and staying for tea. So, stop telling us to go to Queensland and help because of Floods etc. and spend our money, when all you want to do is take our money and not supply good service, friendly service or what people want, when they are on holidays. Change and I may come back, but at the moment I would rather give...
