Have been in Australia for about ten years. But, never faced such poor behaviour and hospitality from any Indian restaurant in Australia.
I can and sat in with my family. Took my daughter to get here hands washed. There was a sink outside for hand wash, but the waiters asked us were not allowed to wash our hands there, instead pointed us to a corridor with two toilets. We followed the instructions and waited outside the smelly toilets for a few minutes, before my daughter started complaining. I came outside to the restaurant and asked that the toilets are engaged for a while and can we just wash our hands before starting to eat. A note here, this sink was completely operational and in a clearly accessible location. Still the response was negatively robotic, we complied, but I provide a feedback in most quite and calm tone that this is a stupid rule - why can't we use a hand wash sink in a Indian restaurant. Note for those not aware: indian food is particularly eaten with hands. I returned to our seats with my daughter, now waiting for the order to be placed. The waitress came and need the order. I again requested to here can we get our hands washed, to which she said no. But, most people would just say no and sorry about this. instead she stated in a patronizing tone "spinning a pen close over my face.. you know why... Because we keep our dishes and cutlery completely washed... And this is essential for heigine." The last protest from me was it is more hygienic to wash hands and how are we supposed to east foods like Samoa and Nan with fork and knife.. this didn't deter rather continue here rant that they are hygienic... We took our...
Read moreGiven the variety of Indian restaurants around Toowoomba, all I could say is that Masala Hut, by far, has it all.
The service was quite accomodating and friendly, they will make sure to take care of you when you order and because of it, the atmosphere felt comfortable and nice to dine with.
Food: the taste is unexpectedly on point in terms of flavour and spice as it kindly caters for people with relatively low spice tolerance. The quality is consistent throughout the array of dishes that were served and the naan breads were properly cooked (not doughy and not too burnt).
If there's one thing I can give comment on would be the option to have the dish on a relatively spicy level for those that really do enjoy the heat; but that doesn't take away anything from the quality of the dish.
Also, serving portion is adequate as it leaves you satiated for a lunch meal and its price point matches the quantity and quality of the meal.
In summary, Masala Hut is definitely focused on serving quality good food and will not leave you disappointed. The fact I had it for lunch and I am still thinking about it kind of...
Read moreMasala Hut Toowoomba presented Fantastic food that was overshadowed by average service and a below average restaurant atmosphere.
Entering a gloomy, old and poorly laid out restaurant to be seated in a table with ghastly views of the customer bathroom door watching people go in and out of the toilet. The atmosphere of this restaurant was unfortunately unwelcoming and uncomfortable. Not suitable for any gatherings, dates or meetings.
The service of staff was average, with orders placed accurately and minimal greetings. Though, the uniforms of staff may need another look over, with our particular waitress wearing what appeared to be gym wear, that cut off just below the chest. An uncomfortable look when placing an order looking at someone’s stomach.
The food was great. Taste was incredible, dishes looked colourful and well made. I highly recommend the Biriyani. Great work.
Overall, an average experience, delicious food that was unfortunately distracted by other key elements that need to be addressed. Simple fixes however and I expect the next visit to...
