Gorgeous sunny winter's day and looking for somewhere to enjoy lunch in the sun with a friend. Queue to Balmoral Beach started at Spit Junction. Suddenly, it dropped in to continue onto Spit Bridge, bypassing the crowd.

I'd tried Azul just after the current owner had moved in. Was it still as good.? Actually, it was better.

My friend and I ordered tea to start, her English Breakfast & The House Moroccan Mint for me, which was served in a gorgeous Arabian pot and slightly sweeten.

With so many delicious looking entrees, the only option was to share multiple dishes.

Bruchetta, to start, was OK. Not the best, not the worst. The two highlights for me the Octopus tentacles and the garlic prawns in a hot pot sauce (delicious). Served with a side order of Khoubz bread still warm and definitely fresh.

What happened to the last dish? Chicken tenders wrapped in pastry with an orange blossom sauce. The owner, who is very much present on the floor, advises he was waiting for us to finish with the other dishes as he wanted to swap out the used plates so as not to clash with the garlic. As a chef's recommendation, it's worth ordering, and for us, that slight sweet finish serves as dessert.

Two margaritas to finish, and we were happy gals enjoying a weekend lunch. Especially with the stunning voice and live music serenading...

We had a pretty bad experience to put it mildly. It took them 45 minutes to get our order and about an hour to get our food. They were very apologetic but it was a very long night and we were hungry. When the food arrived, it was not what we were expecting as the reviews made it sounds fantastic. We will definitely not be returning! The setting was nice, but the food was over priced for what it was. In response to your comment. We apologised for not booking and only waited for 10 minutes to be seated. Had we been told that it would take 45 minutes to have our order taken and then a further hour to have our food, we would have kept walking. This was meant to be a night out with the family. My parents are elderly and don't get out much. This only reinforced their idea that eating at home is a much more pleasant experience. I suggest you have more than one person taking orders, that they write the order down (as one dish never made it to the table) and that you don't train your new staff all in one one night. You are very welcoming in arrival but that is only lip service, if you don't make any attempt to make eye contact when you are trying to engage with the staff. We were extremely patient and that only resulted in you serving your regulars and us being made to feel like second...

It is no wonder that Azul is rated so highly. Omar and his team are fantastic. The whole experience of being in his restaurant whilst enjoying the beauty of the water and surroundings at The Spit is wonderful. The food is delicious, the atmosphere so friendly and relaxing not to mention the sensational service. From the moment you walk in Omar and his team are there to give you a warm and smiley "welcome home". Last weekend we had a delightful family birthday brunch and prior to leaving (without being asked!) Omar appeared with a delicious sticky date pudding with a sparkler in it - happy birthday!
