If we could give 0 stars for service we would. But unfortunately that option isn’t available.
Arrived to the venue, the waitress asked what do we want for drinks, “we have an $18 margaritas special at the moment.” Instantly we said “yep thank you, that’s what we want.” They asked if we wanted water, we said, no we are alright. Ultimately, that was the catalyst that started the whole drama we believe. Our mistake for saying no apparently.
We ordered the bread, octopus, olives and burrata for entree. And then also ordered the ragu and the prawn and crab pasta for main.
In between waiting for the entrees to come out, me and my best friend took photos of each other with our cocktails as anyone would on holiday.
Entrees arrived, and we started to eat. We then asked ONE of the waitresses for a wine menu, as we wanted to buy a bottle of Shiraz, to go with our pasta. No response was given.
5-10 minutes later, we asked a different waitress that was beside us, “Hi, we asked if we could get a wine menu from another waitress, and we haven’t received anything yet”. She said “one moment let me see.”
As we are sitting there, the manager of the staff comes up to us. She says “how can I help you “girls” “ we said “we asked for a wine menu about 10 minutes ago and we haven’t received anything yet.” She said “how many drinks have you had prior to being here” We said, we went to Jimmys rooftop around the corner and had 2 cocktails each. Not that we had to explain ourselves but apparently, we did.
She said “you are going to have to wait 20 minutes before I can bring you out a wine menu.” We said nothing back, completely in shock from what she had said. We looked at each other and said “okay, no worries.”
Me and my bestfriend sat there, and thought to each other “how dare they say that to us” we were not loud, we were not aggressive, we had not done absolutely anything of the sort for them to think we were anything but “regular” patrons.
As we sat and ate our entrees we both came to the decision that we were not going to allow them to paint us out as two “inebriated teens”. Both being 31 year old woman. Both feeling extremely disrespected.
We called the “manager” back, and said “we have eaten some of our entrees and we’ve had two cocktails. We will pay for this and we will be leaving. We find it extremely disrespectful how we have been treated thus far.” We paid for what we had, and started to walk out.
As we are walking out, two 18-20 year olds chase after us and start screaming at us, “HAVE YOU PAID? YOU DIDN’T PAY!” I instantly turn around and said “how dare you ask us that question” with my Commbank notification that instantly comes up after you pay for anything. Clearly stating the restaurant, and the amount we paid. In which, if the service had come correct, it would have gone from a $100 bill to a $300-400 bill.
Totti’s, you honestly need to teach your staff their P’s and Q’s. It’s astounding that they believe that they have the authority to treat and disrespect others this way.
It’s beyond disgusting, deplorable and ultimately degrading. To think staff members think that can treat customers this way. Especially those who have done absolutely nothing wrong. You MUST do better.
Our bill may not make a “big” difference in regards to your overall profit throughout the year, but if this review can enable just one person from not attending this establishment then we’ve...
Read moreI visited on Monday, August 18th. I had previously been to the Lorne and Bondi branches with my partner, family, and friends. Totti’s had always been a place where I shared good memories with loved ones, and it was one of my favorite restaurants. This time, my friend was visiting Australia, and because of my positive experiences at the other branches, I chose this restaurant without hesitation. The atmosphere was lovely, and the bartender’s service was friendly. Everything started well, and we placed our order: Lamb ragu and steak as mains, and the wood-fired bread as antipasti. We decided to order extra sides later while eating. Since steak could take some time, I specifically requested: “It doesn’t need to come together, please bring the bread first as soon as it’s ready.” Five minutes later, the couple at the table on our right also placed their order. I overheard them ordering the wood-fired bread and a couple of sides (if I recall correctly, burrata and tomatoes). About ten minutes later, two women sat down at the table on our left, and they too ordered the same bread and a few sides. Not long after, finally a staff member came out carrying the wood-fired bread. Since there were no sides on the tray, I was convinced it must have been ours. But no—it was served to the couple on our right, who received only the bread, waiting silently for their sides. Another five minutes passed. This time bread came out with sides. Since sides were included, I thought it couldn’t be ours. The server hesitated between our table and the one behind us, then finally, after guidance from another staff member, served it to the table on our left. At this point, my frustration started to grow. I calmly asked a staff member: “I requested the bartender to serve food as soon as it was ready. We ordered five minutes before the right table and ten minutes before the left table. They both have received theirs, but we haven’t even gotten the bread. Was our order missed?” They asked me to wait a moment, then handed us over to someone who seemed to be a manager. The manager said: “Since the steak takes time, it seems the kitchen was trying to serve everything together. But if you’d like the bread first, I can let the chef know.” I wish she had been honest instead, saying something like: “Sorry, there seems to have been a mistake. Let me check and fix it right away.” Meanwhile, the couple on the right still hadn’t received their sides, staring at the lonely bread on their table, which by then had collapsed and gone flat. We hadn’t even received our plain bread yet. Eventually, we got ours—thirty minutes after ordering. Only then did the couple on the right finally get their sides, a full 25 minutes after their bread. The left table, however, got their bread and sides within just five minutes of ordering. Was it discrimination? I don’t know. But what’s clear is that the entire service flow was a mess, and not just for our table—the right table was also a victim of poor service. Shortly after, we did receive our pasta and steak, which tasted excellent. For the food alone, I would give a minimum of one star, but I’ll add another for the flavors. Two...
Read moreThis is my long story for you to consider whether to come here or not:
We came here to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Initially, we had to wait for 30 minutes, which we understood because the place was very crowded, but we were starving. When we finally got to our table, we were offered a shot. We agreed, thinking it was a gesture to make up for the delay. However, we were shocked to see a $10 charge per shot added to our bill at the end.
The issues didn’t stop there. The service was disorganised—no one seemed to know what they were doing, except for one kind waitress who was very sweet to us. We had to repeatedly ask for water, and when it was finally brought to us, they only provided one bottle for six people, forcing us to ask for more. We ordered antipasti, which were fine (though, to be honest, anything would have been fine since we were starving), and wine. By the time the wine arrived, we had already finished the antipasti. The waiter seemed rushed and poured the wine carelessly, and to make matters worse, the wine itself wasn’t great.
Then the main courses arrived. We ordered pasta with ragù, which was supposed to have lamb, but there was a large, tough chunk of meat that wasn’t minced, and I had to cut it with a knife. It tasted like beef, which was very strange and disappointing. The pasta itself wasn’t good either. The second main course—pasta with cheese and kale—was okay, but nothing special.
To improve the birthday experience, we decided to order tiramisu, my favorite dessert, only to be hugely disappointed. The tiramisu had chunks of nuts that didn’t belong, which made the dessert feel like it had rocks in it. The flavor didn’t work at all, and the inside was soaked in something strange—certainly not traditional tiramisu. None of us could finish it.
The overall service was chaotic and unprofessional, and the food didn’t live up to the hype. I honestly don’t understand why Totti’s is so popular. It feels more like a money-making machine than a place that genuinely cares about the quality of food or customer experience. If you’re looking for a good experience, I’d suggest going somewhere less busy, where your experience will be much better.
Finally, we were surprised with a $60 charge for the “complimentary” shots, which we had been offered earlier. After expressing our disappointment, they claimed it was a miscommunication, but I don’t understand how a restaurant offers shots after a 30-minute delay and then expects the customer to pay for them.
Tip: If you decide to go, don’t accept the shots from the beginning, as you will end up...
