Barnacle Bill Penrith — Restaurant in Sydney

Greetings everyone.

I have been wanting to write a review for Barnacle Bill for a while so below is my review.

Yesterday the family and I decided that we would give Barnacle Bill located in High ST Penrith a go.

We were not disappointed and from the attached photos you will see the amazing seafood that you can try when you visit this venue.

My brother and his Wife who live in Scotland were here for Christmas so this was the right time to give barnacle Bill a try.

When we entered the venue to order, the staff were friendly and the ordering experience was pleasant.

We ordered a selection of packs and some spring rolls on the side and below is my description of these packs.

The first pack contained Prawns, Fish, chips, Calamari, and scallops.

Let us begin with the spring rolls.

These mini spring rolls were crisp, full of flavour and not dry.

When biting in to one of these parcels of delight, you could hear the audible crunch and the flavours hit you all at once.

The filling was fresh and the sweet chilli sauce on the side gave these rolls a spicy kick and without the sauce the flavour would not be quite right.

Now on to the fish.

The crumbed butter fish was amazing.

The fish was moist, not dry, and very pleasant to my palate.

What impressed me is how the fish held together when picked up and from past experiences fish that was crumbed usually falls apart easily.

You can also choose grilled or battered fish and there were many types of fish to choose from.

The Crumbed prawns offered a delightful combination of crunchy texture and succulent seafood flavour. The golden-brown coating provided a satisfying crunch, complementing the tender prawns within.

These prawns were cooked to perfection and every bite filled your mouth with satisfying sweet flavour that I have not experienced when eating prawns from other venues.

I really enjoyed the Calamari which were tender, not rubbery and these Calamari were seasoned well.

For the seafood lovers here in the group, I give Barnacle Bill a ten out of ten.

The variety of options available and the customer service were impressive.

For those of us with allergies and dietary requirements, the staff were very accommodating.

This was my second visit to Barnacle Bill and I will visit again in the future.

(Correction- I put on review creamy chicken pasta salad. But the correct item is creamy pasta salad that I ordered.)

A few weeks ago, I ordered 1 item to be delivered. The restaurant thought it would be a good idea to change the 1 item i ordered to something completely different as they were out of stock of the 1 item I ordered from there own available menu. And so they sent the incorrect item to me to be delivered.

And of course to my shock when I saw what came (1 large garden salad) and compared to what I ordered (1 large creamy chicken pasta salad).

Soo basically I gave them 1 star review because I only ordered 1 item and they didn't send that 1 item correctly.

(If they just gave me a refund or even just called me to swap the item for something I do want. Then that would of been fine and i wouldn't give the 1 star review) And no one at the time wanted to eat the garden salad.

A few weeks later after that mishap. I ordered about $80 worth of food to give them a proper go and see how there food is. So me and my family ate the food. However something didn't taste right with all of the food we ordered. Later on and for the next 2 days, me and my family were suffering from very bad food poisoning.

So I don't know if they purposely poisoned our food, because of that 1 item sent incorrectly and 1 star review before hand.

But I DO NOT recommend this place at all.

Do yrself a favour and go elsewhere. And don't argue or leave a bad review because it seem they may POISON yr food next time u visit, so u don't come back at all. And not to mention there were children (not just adults) that were suffering from very bad food poisoning from the food they ate from there.

Just had crumbed barramundi, and chips with the kids here. There was a very odd and intense flavour throughout the entire meal and smell. It took me a while to place what was in the seasoning as it was familiar. It was MSG. Their website says no MSG added to any food products. Which is either not true or a carefully worded obfuscation. MSG has an extremely distinct taste and smell. It leaves your mouth salivating and has a very salty, garlicky flavour and makes you very thirsty, if this isn’t MSG it is an equivalent compound.

Made the whole meal horrible frankly even the smell was overwhelming. I have no real issue with MSG but people that use it need to understand it is not a seasoning. It is a flavour enhancer which means you can only use a tiny amount cause even that small amount will be noticeable and strong. It takes over every other flavour in the dish. So the crumb tastes like MSG, the fish underneath tastes like MSG and the chips as well. The chips and fish were only there to provide texture in the end.
