I would like to start out with a positive. Some items on the menu are actually really tasty and well presented. You can tell there is care taken there.
However this is not my issue. There are a plethora of things that unfortunately take away from the quality of some menu items. First being the price. $5 for a shot of espresso. A large coffee only ever so slightly bigger than the small being $6, and then $7 if you want an alternative milk. Oh and $8 if you then add a syrup. Whilst I am aware it is the customers responsibility to read the menu and see this, the proposition of such prices is a slap in the face. This is where the first problem lies with this store, greed. The prices are absurd. $34 for a special which was half the quality and less size than other menu items, like the Turkish eggs. (I am referring to the recent breakfast special). The quality of the food doesn’t match up to the prices. I also had this problem when visiting their other location Dotties in the Matilda building whilst visiting a family member. $7 for a cookie, $8 for a hot cross bun, $7 for a small soy latte… must I go on. You’ll find that if they had a platform to give Dotties a google review, many people would have this issue. I am not one to post reviews often, but this really disturbed me as most of their customers are elderly or have mental illnesses looking to brighten up their time, so pretty convenient to put prices like that for vulnerable people.
Secondly, the atmosphere some of the staff provide at high st depot isn’t nice and seems hostile to one another, with one of the (I assume managers?) began raising her voice and being condescending to another staff member about taking a coffee whilst she was bringing knives and forks over to me. Maybe this was just a particularly stressful day so it is hard to comment as I have only attended once with my two sisters.
All in all, I think this could be a good place if the prices were fairer. It is pretty dear here. I don’t expect super low prices, but the prices that I have witnessed are a...
Read moreI don't know if these guys have changed management or staff, but it wasn't the same as I normally experience. This is usually my go to place when I need a break, but it won't be any more. Everything was rushed even from the moment I walked in I had someone blurt really quickly takeaway or eat in (it was so quick I barely knew what she said). The staff were just so demanding today. I sat down, she only had handed me the menu and already she was asking me what I wanted to drink and staring at me expecting an answer. I quickly answered, then second guessed and then realised that my second choice was wrong and changed back. I just wasn't ready to have my order demanded from me without even looking at the menu. A simple question like would you like to order a drink now, or take some time to look at the menu would have been nice. I had just got my belongings unpacked on the table then I look up and someone is wanting to know what I want to eat. There was this strong expectation that I give her an answer right away. I hadn't even looked at the menu! How about asking are you ready to order or would you like some more time? I quickly gave a response. While the meal was well cooked, given time I wouldn't have ordered it, it wasn't the meal I would normally have chosen. By this stage I thinking why are they rushing me to make my choices? I finished my meal, was sipping my drink n reading my book and I look up and my drink is gone. It wasn't even finished! By this stage I got the hint that it was time for me to go. I won't come for a break here, I got the hint very strongly that I was only meant to order eat and go....
Read moreLove the food! eggs benny is my fav with their special twist on the sauce! Staff are Always friendly, seats are comfy. I have had some of their other dishes and always enjoyed them par 1 (not due to how it was cooked but more so that I personally wasn't a fan of the flavours but someone else might love it, it was the pea, balsamic, sourmilk dish). Also love the baked eggs, eggs and avo with their nut mix and a few of their specials.
The only reason why I havnt given a 5 is for 2 reasons : Coffee is 3/5 their ice coffee is a 4/5. I'm not sure why I don't like their coffee, not sure if it's the brand, the strength. But I always feel a little sick after I get a cap from their. My husband likes the coffee, I think it may be a little to strong or it's the flavour of the bean. some of their staff don't know their own menu, as I said we usually order the same thing every time but sometimes might try something else. When I ask about flavours or which would you recommend out of these two and why or could we have it without x as I can't eat that, most times the staff have never tried it, don't know, or don't really know how to describe dish flavours. I.e this is a lite meal, fairly heavy so if hungry it's great, this is more on the sour side etc...
