Absolutely outstanding. The food was flawless. I find so many places in Harris Park are so choked with overspice and extreme chilli that all you taste is chilli and not the dish. The food at Billu's was perfect. Full of flavour, each spice could be tasted but none were so overwhelming that they took over the taste of the dish which we really truly appreciated. Every dish was cooked to perfection. The Amritsari kulcha was amazing! The veg and non veg thalis were perfect. The masala tea was beyond perfect and was very much enjoyed. The service was on point, attentive, polite and prompt. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here and will definitely be back.
Subsequent to my original review I returned twice to Billu's with my parents. Both times we beyond thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Incredibly warm and attentive service. I delved into the non-vegetarian side of the menu this evening and was so impressed. The tandoori platter came out hot and fresh on a sizzling cast iron plate. The chicken tikka was flawless, moist and spicy to perfection. The fish Amritsari was well cooked and we'll seasoned. The Lamb seekh kebabs were outstanding and generously sized. The tandoori lamb cutlets were a serious highlight, almost indescribably good. Perfectly paired with garlic naan, the supplied green chutney and lemon wedge..... Wow! Delightful!
The Afghani style Shahi paneer was beyond words. It had a bit more chilli than I'm used to but the combination of spices was so perfect with the generous ground cashew nuts that I was in bliss. I tried it with garlic naan, tandoori roti and an outstanding paneer kulcha. All combinations were absolutely delicious. The Rose lassi was amazing to drink with this dish.
One point I forgot to mention in my original review was that the music here is so nice too. Adds such a wonderful atmosphere and really brings a lot of life to this wonderful restaurant. Amazing. If you're reading my review and thinking about where to eat in Harris Park don't think twice and try this place for yourself. After so many years of absolute loyalty to one of the big names of Harris Park, venturing out and trying Billu's was...
Read moreI had a hankering for decent Indian food and walked past Billu’s and where a friendly woman greeted my mother and I. We were promptly seated inside, given table water and left to ponder the menu. The staff were super attentive, and provided the specials for the night. They asked how ‘spicy can you tolerate?’ Which assisted in their suggestions for their weekend specials and food we may like - we got the vindaloo and saffron chicken tikka with nan, rice, raita and a bottle of bubbles too. They checked in on us multiple times during our meal, and made sure we were comfortable and enjoying the food.
The service is extremely fast, particularly for families with children and if you wanted to be leisurely (as mum and I did) they accommodate that too.
The food itself was very aromatic, the saffron chicken tikka had a beautiful kick to it and the mint sauce was a beautiful way to balance the flavors. The vindaloo wasn’t extremely hot, so you could actually taste the flavors of the various spices.
I watched the food coming out for the tables around us and had menu envy. Their presentation is fantastic and they had authentic Indian thali’s! Most people were drinking lassi’s or the tap beers ($9.90 per schooner)!
The only thing they didn’t have on their menu was a ‘banquet’ option - however their servings are generous, and unlike other places, they have loads of meat in their curry!
Billu’s is reasonably priced (we paid $90 for 2 people incl drinks) and they have an extensive menu for both food and drinks and their bar is fully stocked.
The two things I would change are how close the tables are together and the seats - though comfortable, they aren’t made for larger people due to their wraparound backs.
We will be sure to come beck here, it is a hidden...
Read moreWould give this restaurant minus stars if I could. Took 10 minutes for someone to even seat us even though it wasn't very crowded. Service was not good and the food was worse. Extremely expensive for the meager portions of mediocre food served. Not to mention the waiter spilt steaming hot curry all over my 10 year old brothers back. He had to have dinner without a shirt, only my jacket and we were only given an ice pack after requesting it multiple times. The manager did not seem to really care and we did not get any sort of monetary compensation for this disastrous incident, he did not offer us a discount even when we paid with cash. Left the restaurant unsatisfied with a crying child who had a scalded back, a bag of curry stained clothes and an empty wallet. For sure the worst restaurant I've ever been to. I will never come back. Highly recommend everyone to avoid this place altogether. Edit: Manager claims we are lying for money. If that's the case why would we have not asked or argued at the restaurant? By leaving this review, I am not gaining anything, I am simply stating my experience and sharing my honest review of the FOOD and the PRICE and lastly the customer service - which a lot of reviews agree with. Can't believe you would blame a 10 year old child for this - I never blamed the waiter, although it doesn't make sense to serve food while placing a tray above a customer's head. I only mentioned the money in order to illustrate the entirety of the situation. It's not about the money it's about the experience and the service, please do better. I never said you didn't ask if he was okay I said it didn't SEEM LIKE YOU CARED, there is a...
