Came for brunch and it’s clear the place puts a lot of effort into aesthetics. The fitout is clean, minimalist, and spacious, very much the kind of spot you’d expect to see on Instagram. The experience was pleasant, but some aspects didn’t fully justify the price point.
We had the burrata bruschetta toast, the smoked salmon eggs benedict, a flat white, and a zebra mocha.
The burrata bruschetta toast looked stunning, vibrant with fresh strawberries, citrus slices, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze, layered over a thick slice of toast. The burrata was creamy and paired well with the fruit, though the toast was on the tougher side and leaned dry. The flavour profile felt slightly in-between: not quite savoury, not quite sweet, which may not appeal to everyone.
The smoked salmon eggs benedict came with two poached eggs on toast, topped with hollandaise, salmon, and pickled elements. It was decent, the eggs were well-cooked, and the flavours were clean but nothing stood out. Again, the toast was quite hard, and for the price, the portion felt small and didn’t really leave much of an impression. It didn’t help that you have to pay something like 5 dollars to upgrade it to salmon from the other protein.
The zebra mocha had a rich blend of white and dark chocolate, balanced without being overly sweet, and the flat white was smooth with good milk texture and a solid roast.
I feel that both the space and the food presentation are gorgeous but flavour-wise, it feels more curated for social media than for a satisfying brunch. Worth a visit if you’re after a relaxing space and aesthetic dishes, but expect smaller portions and relatively...
Read moreWent to Café Alma on the final day of our trip, and let's just say our final meal ended with a bang... and not the good kind.
We ordered the chicken burger, eggs benedict, chocolate frappe, and a cold brew. Out of the bunch, only the eggs benedict managed to make it out of this experience unscathed. The chicken burger? Picture two sad, dry pieces of chicken stacked together, buried under a jungle of tomatoes, lettuce, and a teaspoon of slaw—so little protein, I thought I was playing hide-and-seek with my lunch. Spoiler: I lost.
The chocolate frappe was a surprise—but not in a yay, free dessert kind of way. It wasn’t sweet at all. I suppose I should thank them for supporting my imaginary diabetic lifestyle. The cold brew didn’t fare much better. My coffee-connoisseur boyfriend gave it a definitive thumbs down. But hey, he did polish off the eggs benedict, so it wasn’t all doom and gloom.
In hindsight, I should’ve followed the reviews and ordered the smashed avo toast. Major regrets on trying to end the trip with a "nice brunch."
On the bright side, the staff were absolutely lovely—super friendly and welcoming. I just wish the food had been as warm as the hospitality.
A bang to end the trip... but sadly, it wasn’t the mic-drop moment we...
Read moreWould have loved to give it a higher score due to the great location, the atmosphere and overall food quality. But, I was extremely disappointed from a meal that was falsely labelled as "haloumi stack". When you read the word "stack" the immediate association is plenty, a generous serving. In reality however, the "stack" they were referring to was two measly pieces of haloumi, about 1.5×3 cm each, one stacked on top of the other. And that's it! That is as misleading and false advertising as I've ever experienced in a restaurant. And this meal is $22. There are many other restaurants who give a lot more haloumi in a similar meal, and charge less, without even boasting about it as a "stack". In the second time I visited this place, again I was unpleasantly surprised by the stingy serving of another meal, the Turkish Egg Labneh. To their credit the food is of good quality, but my overall impression is that this place is a...
