EDIT 2: I’m talking about the ice cubes you use, yes…. What other ice cubes would I be referring to lol. Not sure what your point is here. Sure, they’re slightly bigger than a standard ice cube.. and? They aren’t that big, and regardless of the size, they don’t ice the drink so I don’t know why that’s relevant. It’s still one ice cube in a large cup that melts within a minute and leaves the drink semi chilled. Perhaps consider changing the name to “Tepid Coffee” as by the time you get halfway through the drink it’s room temperature. Hope that helps!
EDIT: To the pass agg and bizarre response below, I’ve personally never been to a cafe where an "iced" drink means just one melting ice cube. I don't think it should be on the customer to specify the number of cubes for an iced drink. Typically, when ordering something "iced," I'd assume it to be iced, as the name implies, not lukewarm with a single ice cube, but I understand every business is different. I mentioned it in my review because details like this can help others; I know a handful of people who avoid Bourke St specifically because of this. As for the second cube, I'm honestly not sure what difference having two cubes instead of one would have made. I doubt I'll be ordering “an iced latte with two ice cubes” anytime soon, but thank you for the suggestion.
Original Review: 3 stars. Hot coffee is good but they literally put one ice cube in the iced coffee which is so irritating because then you end up with a semi cold coffee, do not recommend getting an iced...
Read moreWe regularly buy from here and the staff somehow exceed themselves in their rudeness and unhelpful attitude with each visit. Today, I was invited to play a guessing game when I asked which loaves were left (it was late in the day) and, perched on the 'X' taped to the floor like a well-behaved customer should, I couldn't read the small labels from where I was standing. I was begrudgingly told "most of them are like, sourdough". Huzzah, thought I - how incredible that an artisan bakery would have that most rare and fabled of crusts - the 'sourdough'! I then prompted the erudite sage who I was blessed to be served by for information on the different varieties - perchance - of the mystical sourdough that I might purchase, only to be met with a sigh, a grunt, and a monotonously uttered list of breads without any indication of which appellation went with which item. It seemed I'd inadvertently stepped into a Masterchef-style elimination challenge, and it was my task to match that quickly muttered list of 'barley, rye, mutli, spelt, wholegrain, dark light, rustic, country white, olive, rosemary, and other inaudible varieties, with what I could kind-of spy from a few meters away. So, I pointed out one which looked like it was what I was after, paid and was farewell'd with a sarcastic "you enjoy that, mate", which - I guess - did, at least, prove that I had interacted with someone capable of forming complex human thoughts and intonation.
