DUO DUO in Strathfield absolutely lives up to the hype! My wife and I had been hearing about this place for a while, so we finally decided to give it a try – and now we completely understand why people rave about it.
The star of the night was without a doubt their famous fried ice cream. Crisp on the outside, creamy and perfectly cold on the inside – it was such a fun contrast in textures. Every bite felt indulgent without being heavy, and you can tell they’ve perfected the technique. It’s not just a gimmick; it’s genuinely delicious and worth the visit on its own.
But then came the surprise standout: the Viet coffee tiramisu. Hands down one of the best desserts we’ve had in a long time. It had the rich creaminess you expect from tiramisu, but the infusion of strong, aromatic Vietnamese coffee gave it a bold and unique twist. The balance of sweetness and bitterness was spot on, making it a dessert that you can’t stop thinking about even after you’ve left.
To top it off, the service was excellent. The staff were friendly, approachable, and clearly passionate about what they do. They took the time to explain the menu and even gave us recommendations, which made the whole experience feel personal and welcoming.
The vibe of the place is modern, energetic, and fun – perfect for a casual night out with friends or a sweet date spot. Overall, DUO DUO is more than just desserts, it’s an experience that leaves you smiling. We’ll definitely be back to try more flavours (and probably another round of that Viet...
Read moreDuo Duo started off as a mobile food truck and overtime opened its first store at Strathfield and now Roselands.
Fried Ice-cream is a large scoop of ice-cream originally vanilla with a deep fried crumbled bread layer on the outside in a ball shape. This dessert originated from China because my dad use to make it for me when I was a kid or we’ll eat it at the restaurant. This was every kids favourite dessert!
Duo Duo have taken the old concept and turned it into a modern dessert by introducing new flavours and toppings. To be honest the topping that you get from the Chinese restaurant are the typical chocolate, strawberry and caramel sauces that tasted horrible. The flavours that Duo over include salted caramel, pandan coconut and apple pie. Other desserts sold at their store include gelato, donuts and drinks. Personally I think this was a major upgrade to their menu as they only started out as fried ice-cream.
As much as I love fried ice-cream, the price for one is $12.5. Back in a day when they first opened it was around $10 and I thought it was expensive already. If you go to any Chinese restaurant, you can easily eat one for under $10. The key difference is the quality, I find Duo fried ice-cream is a lot better, the ball size is much bigger, bread layer is crispier and of course the sauce & toppings...
Read moreNo matter the size of our meal, the answer to "do you want gelato?" is always a resounding yes for my husband. One of our cherished spots is Dou Dou, located next to Strathfield Plaza. There are usually a few outdoor seats available.
We are particularly fond of their tea and Asian-inspired gelato flavors, especially the durian, Vietnamese coffee, and Earl Grey. These flavors boast intense profiles but feel lighter compared to traditional gelatos.
However, Dou Dou is best known for their fried ice cream. Opting for the salted caramel flavor, we found the batter to be thin and exceptionally crispy, unlike the ones typically found in Chinese restaurants. The caramel sauce complements the plain vanilla ice cream perfectly, preventing it from being overly sweet. Decorated with popcorn, it adds a novelty factor and enhances the visual appeal, although they tend to fall out if you attempt to eat the ice cream first. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our...
