Across the globe – and perhaps the universe – kebabs are a universal street food that proliferate every corner and curb-side where the foot traffic suits the hour and that hour is one in need, either when the mind is trying to overcome intoxication or the belly is beyond and hour of circadian feeding. However preceding every kebab stand, cart or kiosk is a dining table filled out with an entire nation’s cuisine. As students especially, we’d seek out such convenient eats. From my time as a student, I was incredibly lucky to have spots like @erciyes_restaurant , a Sydney institution in Mediterranean cuisine and one of two significant kebab cultures in this city (the other most popular arguably being Lebanese). Returning to this spot in 2025, over 15 years later, I come baring a big smile on my face. Everything and nothing has changed at the same time. Cleaner window dressing, more spits of juicy meat and an updated grilling station and even a full bar. The vibe is still the same though after all this time; familial and homely, with a sense of pride to represent Turkish cuisine at its most accessible and delicious. The mixed mezze grill and kebab with a side of yalanci dolma (vine leaf wraps) and yoghurt garlic sauce, comes to an incredibly economic $22.50 per head (feeding 4). The pillow-y bread is slightly toastier on the outer edges, with pieces laid under the meat that traditionally are used as sponges to dab the meat of its juices when grilling. These pieces are prized items… think the crunchy rice at the bottom of the pot or crispy bits at the bottom of a KFC bucket. In 2025 we live within a more adventurous and diverse dining society. Some that have stood the test of time such as Erciyes are finally seeing their dues paid in full.

Best kebabs in Sydney…hands down! This restaurant has always made the best kebabs in town, and they have staff that know not only kebabs but the entire gamut of delicious Mediterranean delectable selectables. The service is amazing and if you are lucky the seated dining area adjoining the kebab part of the restaurant will be hosting a birthday or special “something” and the sounds of drumbeats and the mesmerising movements of a professional belly dancer will just stop you in your tracks and paint a smile on your face from ear to ear...and you haven’t even had your kebab yet. Every bite is like heaven, and the freshness of the ingredients means you can taste the individual components that make up your wrap. In my case, a beef kebab, lettuce, tomato, onion, lettuce, tabouli and lashes of hummus, with a small dash of tomato-sauce. The kitchen and food-prep sections are comfortably staffed, so you wont be waiting very long for your order to appear or meal to be served. The staff here pride themselves on your being satisfied, so if you have any questions, or comments, your feedback is welcome and they will go out of their way to make sure you are listened to. The name, Erciyes, is the name of a now inactive volcano in Kayseri Province, Turkey. Though asking the staff would give you a more culturally significant explanation. Enjoy!

Erciyes: A Turkish Delight Not To Be Missed! Stepping into Erciyes is like being transported straight to the heart of Turkey, with an ambiance that's as warm and inviting as the incredible food on offer. From the moment you're seated, you'll be captivated by the aroma of freshly baked bread, a true testament to the dedication to authenticity here. This isn't just any bread; it's a warm, fluffy, and utterly delightful creation, baked right on the premises and serving as the perfect start to an unforgettable meal. Erciyes truly excels in delivering an outstanding culinary experience that will leave you planning your next visit before you've even finished your first.

One of the most striking aspects of Erciyes is the sheer generosity of their servings. Prepare to be impressed by the abundant portions, ensuring you get fantastic value for every dish. Beyond the impressive size, the freshness of every ingredient truly shines through. From the vibrant, crisp salads, bursting with flavor and color, to the succulent meats, it's clear that quality is paramount. Every component of every dish tastes as though it's been prepared with the utmost care, creating a symphony of authentic Turkish flavors.

And then there are the fresh-limed chicken salt fries. These aren't just an afterthought; they are a star in their own right! Perfectly golden and seasoned with a unique blend of tangy lime and savory chicken salt, they offer a delightful zing that perfectly complements any main course. It's a simple addition, yet one that elevates the entire dining experience, showcasing Erciyes' attention to even the smallest details.

Erciyes is more than just a meal; it’s a vibrant, fresh, and incredibly satisfying journey for your taste buds. With its dedication to freshly baked goods, generous portions, and an unwavering commitment to the highest quality ingredients, particularly those standout salads and the addictive fresh-limed chicken salt fries, this restaurant is an absolute must-visit. You’ll leave feeling incredibly satisfied and already looking forward to your next authentic Turkish feast.

One warning, come here only on a very...

I’ve tasted Erciyes food in a previous office. We used to order their feast platers for a lunch every time we had functions. Affordable prices, a huge variety of delicious food and big portions. Their website would say 10 people, but we’d serve about 20 staff. Last Sunday I went there with my husband for the first time. The first thing that has captured my attention was their care: my reservation mentioned “not cumin or coriander, please”. I do the same on every restaurant reservation I make. Erciyes has been the very first place where the staff has asked me about allergies. No any other restaurant in Sydney has paid attention to my notes. We’ve started with the small mixed dips and bread. Small, only the name. I highly recommend babaganoush, hummus and beetroot dips. They are heavenly. And their bread? You can eat it alone, for sure! Our main dish was the Mixed Grill. Amazing!!!! And we’ve had a takeaway home. The portion was way too big for only two people. For dessert we’ve had the Chef Special with Turkish coffee (very strong). Wonderful! We have to return for the pides, and falafels, and halloumi and much more food we could not taste! The restaurant is simple, very clean, the staff very attentive and kind. My best recommendation to you is: gather family and friends. The more the merrier. And you will have the chance to try more plates. Well done, Erciyes! You won my heart...
