Success gives the right to be rude and arrogant. I visit Fat fish 2 or 3 times a week. (NOT AFTER THIS) lately I have had trouble contacting them by phone. I like to make a phone orders for 1 reason. Social Distancing, walk in pick the order up and leave, not hang around waiting That strip gets quite busy. This Friday night 21/01/22 it started like this, I have been trying to call Fat Fish and it has almost been impossible lately. This evening, at 7.00 pm I rang and rang. The phone would just ring out or it would be engaged in between attempts as another caller would be on line waiting for the phone only to be hung up on or timed out. I had some time to pass; I was waiting for a friend to arrive so I spent nearly 40 minutes trying to ring, it would answer and hang up or time out. This started to annoy me. I was thinking about the owners, “Do they know that the phone is being picked up and then put down in their customer’s ears. I decided to go to the Fat Fish shop. I arrived, the place was very busy. As I was walking in I rang the premises thinking the phone must be broken. The phone was on the counter next to two female staff. The phone was ringing and was loud enough to turn the heads of the girls and make them look and turn and continue talking. I stood waiting to be served. Laughing and talking away, while I stood there. I was ignored just like the phone. I walked to the counter where you pick up your order. Again the guys were working away talking and laughing and did not acknowledge me. I said "Hi don't you guys answer the phones?” The staff member answer was " We are too busy to answer the phone so we don't. I looked back at the two female staff members still chatting away at the front counter. I said “So customers can ring and waste their time with no chance of the phone being picked up " he looked at me and threw his hands in the air and said "It’s not my problem and rudely turned his back to me and went back to packing the orders and his chit chat as well. I started to walk out and looked at the other two staff members. In the "Hospitality” industry we call it front of house staff. The staff that meet and greet and give the “New customer” the first impression. One staff member was taking an order while the other staff member watched the phone ring. My thought “there goes $40.00 down the tip” The new thing is to have 2 people to take a takeaway order from one person. One to take the order and one to watch the phone ring. It does not matter what kind of business you have. When you open your doors for the first time you have zero customers. Slowly but surely with a good product and hard I mean really hard work you pick up customers one by one and slowly you have a business. When it’s really busy if you have this type of mismanagement you don’t see 15 or 20 plus customers who get mistreated and will never come back. Multiply that over time. Ask restaurant owners what they prefer, they will tell you in a heartbeat pick up orders any day rather than giving a big commissions to a food delivery Companies. Friday night very busy, phone being ignored, how much money have they lost. You can't escape Fat fish without leaving at least $40.00 for two people and that’s ordering cheap? Well they lost me; I was one of the first customers when that business started. The attitude in Fat fish is, they are doing you a favor, you need Fat Fish, they don’t need you and if you don’t like getting treated like dirt that is your problem as they have too many customers. Fat Fish really soiled my Friday night you have offended me big time and god knows how many other people. Look on the bright side soon all of the staff will be able to social chat among themselves without being bothered by those annoying customers ruining the party. This is how I rate Fat Fish. Full of Fat Heads give it a wide berth they do not deserve your business. Food is not too bad but expensive. Bad attitude off the Scale, Avoid Avoid Should change name to Malum...

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆
If I could give Fat Fish zero stars, I would. This place is the epitome of how to ruin a simple meal. Fish and chips should be a straightforward and satisfying dish, but Fat Fish somehow manages to fail in every conceivable way. From lackluster food to terrible service and an overall unpleasant dining experience, there is very little to redeem this establishment.
The Food – A Greasy Catastrophe
The most important part of any fish and chips place is, of course, the food. Unfortunately, Fat Fish completely drops the ball. The fish was overcooked and dry, encased in a thick, greasy batter that tasted like it had been fried in week-old oil. The supposed “crisp” texture was non-existent, as each bite was a soggy, chewy mess.
As for the chips? Even worse. Limp, pale, and under-seasoned, they seemed to have been left sitting out for hours before making their way to my plate. A good serving of chips should be golden, crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. What I received instead was a heap of stale, oil-soaked potato sticks that were neither enjoyable nor edible.
And let’s not forget the portions. Despite the premium price tag, the serving size was meager. I’ve had more satisfying meals from a frozen supermarket box than what Fat Fish provided. For a place that prides itself on its fish and chips, they somehow manage to get both components disastrously wrong.
Service – Indifferent at Best, Rude at Worst
The food alone would be enough to make me avoid Fat Fish forever, but the service made the experience even worse. Upon walking in, there was no greeting—just a blank stare from the disinterested staff behind the counter. When I finally placed my order, the cashier seemed annoyed, as if my mere presence was an inconvenience.
Waiting for my meal felt like an eternity. I watched as other customers who ordered after me received their food first, and when I politely inquired about my order, I was met with a curt, “It’ll be ready when it’s ready.” No apology, no explanation—just attitude.
When my food finally arrived, it was unceremoniously plopped onto the counter without so much as a word. No “enjoy your meal,” no “thank you,” just a dismissive nod as they moved on to the next unfortunate customer. If I wanted to be treated like an inconvenience, I could have just stayed home and cooked my own disappointing meal.
ter and outdated pop hits from a decade ago.
A fish and chips shop should feel warm and welcoming, but Fat Fish felt more like a place where joy goes to die. The few other customers present seemed just as miserable as I was, either silently picking at their food or angrily complaining to the staff about their orders.
Price – Not Worth a Single Penny
With such low-quality food and service, you’d expect Fat Fish to at least be cheap. Wrong. The prices were absurdly high for what was offered. A small portion of fish and chips cost more than what I would normally pay for a full meal elsewhere. I wouldn’t mind spending a bit more for quality, but Fat Fish provided nothing but disappointment...
Read moreI went in to pick up a phone order the man that served me was Very rude, he just talked at me as a customer I was shocked not sure if he was trying to be funny then he mocked how I talked. You would think you would treat your customers nicely I noticed how he treated different customers and definitely there was some bias I found him insincere and condescending but I won’t come back just really bad service and saw him openly roll his eyes at me. Firstly if you work in this industry you do not talk at people nor do you in any circumstances, these people pay your bills which I am sure you are aware. And just because you may feel grumpy or bad does not mean you can treat other people in a way you perceive you can get away with by your judgement of them just absolutely horrific not the way I wanted to spend my Sunday being talked at and ridiculed by a man in a bad mood. Perhaps check your prejudices before you start to roll your eyes and mock the way someone speaks, beyond shocked. I hope you learn from this but likely not. Also he said you took your time coming, the chips are cold just stay there He pointed his finger at me and said this repeatedly don’t walk away and then he said oh don’t worry they are ready now update they are cold and subpar waste of time and money to be abused by some grumpy man. I am also local so odd attitude to have also rude attitude to have towards anyone. I hope the young people working here don’t pick up on the way he treats people as it is discusting I was truly horrified. Big waste of money for cold chips and abuse from a local person in business do not come here if you want to have an enjoyable evening. It also seems that he has not read the racism is not welcome signs and still thinks he can openly be racist when he lives in such a diverse place shocking. The last thing this neighbourhood needs is a serving of...
