A True Taste of Fiji-Indian Homestyle Cooking in the Heart of Liverpool
If you’re in Liverpool and craving something authentic, comforting, and packed with traditional Fijian-Indian flavour, Fiji Style Desi Dhaba is a hidden gem worth visiting. Located just a short walk from the Liverpool train station, this modest eatery may not look flashy from the outside, but the real magic happens in the kitchen.
I visited with family and was immediately greeted with the warm hospitality typical of a traditional dhaba. The aroma of freshly roasted spices filled the air, and the open-style counter allowed us to watch the dishes being served with pride and care.
We ordered the goat curry thali and the much-talked-about chop suey—both of which lived up to their reputation. The goat curry was rich, slow-cooked to perfection, and deeply flavoured with house-ground masala. Served alongside it were soft rotis, dhal, rice, and traditional sides like steamed cassava and tangy chutney. The Indo-Chinese chop suey brought a welcome fusion twist—crispy, tangy, and well-balanced with spice.
One standout aspect is that all the curries are made from scratch, and the passion of “Queen Rani” (the head chef and heart of the kitchen) truly shines through in every bite.
The only drawback was the portion size, which felt a bit small for the price, and there’s no printed menu with prices clearly marked—something that might throw off first-time visitors. However, the flavour and authenticity easily made up for it.
The setup is simple and homely—don’t expect luxury interiors. But if you’re here for the food, tradition, and a sense of community, you’ll leave happy and full.
Would definitely recommend to those who love island-style curry, Indo-Fijian fare, and aren’t afraid of a little spice and soul!

Read moreThis place is shocking. Despite being given a single menu, the prices were charged differed, and when questioned, the owner claimed they didn’t have a menu with prices. And she was under the assumption that we know the prices. NO ! if we knew the prices will be so outrageous we would have have gone elsewhere. We were charged $395 for 10 adults and 5 kids, with outrageous charges like $18.5 ($55.00) for rice. The owners ( lady) tries to justify this by saying " we have to also cook the rice ". Any indian or non/indian resturant at most will charge $10 for a serving of rice.
$38 for a small serving of chop suey which the claim is a family size. The portions are so small it would fit only 3 people at most hence why we had to order so many servings.
When asked for a price breakdown and receipt which they never provided it took over 3 hours for them to send me one. Request a menu to show the prices we were charged owner confirmed that they don't have a menu and sent the same menu we had ordered off by in the resturant.
Owner had issues why we didn't question the prices when we paid. Regardless of when this was questioned you legally you should be able to show the customer a menu with the prices you charge.
Such a disgrace! We try to support our own fiji Indian community but they're just there ripping people off with no shame.
Anyone that wants authentic fiji Indian food please visit Tata's at rooty Hill. The food is amazing, they have only one menu and You'll only be paying $5 for...
Read moreI would give this place 0 stars if I could. We ordered catering from here, 3 different dishes to feed 30 people. The owner quoted me $400-450 and was all too keen to take the money. She assured me her food was of the highest quality. Pre-ordered and paid her. No issues until the night of the event when we went to pick up our catering. She provided us with one small aluminium tray of chicken chopsuey, one small aluminium tray of goat curry and 2 small aluminium trays of palau. The food in the trays were not even enough to feed 10 people let alone 30. I called and asked her if we forgot to get more trays, she told me that’s the quantity needed to feed 30 people. I complained and asked her that there wasn’t enough food. Her attitude was appalling, the owner was rude, uncooperative and argumentative. She refused to provide more food or a refund and then hung up. We eventually had to order takeaway butter chicken from the local Indian restaurant to have enough food.
Don’t ever get catering from this place ever again. Their food might be nice but they are disgusting and have the worst customer service. Save your money and take your...
