A really shockingly bad experience at George’s Mediterranean Bar and Grill last night.

I booked this place a month in advance for my 30th birthday, when we arrived on time our table wasn’t ready.

I had requested indoor seating, to which I was told that was noted on the booking but by the time our table was set up we were sat outside with no explanation.

The table ordered and here’s where the issues began, our “mains” were insanely small, over cooked and cold by the time by they reached our table. Everyone was shocked at the small serving size.

Attached are the photos of two mains and one appetizer as there were no vegetarian mains.

$28.50 for the souvlaki $40 approx for the fish $18 for the halloumi

The chips that were ordered were stale and unseasoned.

The real issue and reason for this review was I had organised a cake prior. When I spoke to staff before the event I was told it would cost $2.50 PP to cut the cake (which I already find absolutely extortionary in the first place) but I agreed because it was too late to find somewhere else.

The cake was brought out and left on the table with a knife and plates, I was really confused but since no one came back to take the cake I was left to cut it myself.

Once the bill came, I straight away noticed a $15 cake charge. I flagged the waiter serving us and he instantly got a terrible and aggressive attitude. I asked what the charge was for since no one cut the cake and he just acted like this was normal and just started repeating “Do you want to speak to the manager? Do you want to speak to the manager?” Another guest at the table repeated we weren’t sure what the charge for was because how could it be $2.50 PP if there was no cake cut, it was essentially a storage fee. He just hit back again with “well do you want to speak to the manager?”

I said yes and to the managers credit he seemed pretty surprised and apologized as the cake was definitely meant to be cut and served. The charge was removed but we were left a little shaken and the mood was definitely made worse.

Two guests from the table went to speak to the manager about a separate issue on the bill afterwards and the same waiter saw them wanting to talk to someone and completely ignored them.

Terrible, terrible experience and not one to want to experience for a milestone birthday. Wouldn’t recommend and will not...

I will never be returning or recommending this place again, extremely rude customer service from the owner/manager. My Mum and I were seated for breakfast by a lovely young girl who was very kind. A man approached us who, seemed to be the owner/manager, to take our order. I ordered the toasted turkish bread and requested to add smashed avocado, feta & tomatoes. I innocently asked if there was any possibility that I could have the blistered cherry tomatoes, that were listed on other menu options, instead of a roasted whole tomato that was listed as an add-on. The owner/manager rudely replied with a stern “NO,” at first I thought he was joking as I didn’t think this was an extremely difficult request… He then replied with “I’m not going to argue with the chef, I refuse” in a very abrupt manner after I had explained that I’m happy to pay more than the normal add-on price if need be. My Mum and I were shocked at the rudeness in the way his response was delivered, not at the fact that my request was declined. My Mum ordered the fritters that we realised had the blistered tomatoes included so she just shared them with me as we were too uncomfortable to ask for the roasted tomato that was an add-on option on the menu. Even the people sitting next to us were shocked as they had heard the whole conversation and thought that the manner in which the owner/manager responded with was over the top and extremely rude considering it was a simple question that I’m sure has been asked many times before. We ate our breakfast that was in fact lovely. When I went to pay I was served by a lovely young man who was extremely kind and accommodating. Mid-way through paying the lovely waiter was screeched at and abused by the chef. I could see that the waiter was uncomfortable and felt awkward that this happened in front of me and other customers. We will not be returning as we believe that the staff are treated poorly with no respect and the owner/manager is extremely rude and arrogant. We were perfectly fine with our request being declined, it was the customer service and rudeness that...

Thought I'd write up a review while the information is fresh, hope the team take this as constructive feedback.

My and 4 of my colleagues came in last night, and ordered 5 Mezze Banquets ($39pp):

The atmosphere is great. Quality of seating fantastic and fun music.

The food: Overall, the quality of the food was low. There was nothing that truly stood out, and the majority of the dishes were just bland. The squid, octopus, Spanakopita and beef kafta all seriously lacked seasoning. I got up at some point to get some salt and pepper just give it a little taste. I was especially upset with the Spanakopita, that didn't actually taste like anything. Also, the kafta was too pasty on the inside. What is that? The hummus was alright, but it had way too much garlic in it, I was okay with that only because I like garlic.

I was honestly wondering whether or not they taste the food in the kitchen.

Other aspects of the dish were alright, for example the souvlaki and halloumi/watermelon, but I mean it's a bit hard to get that wrong.

The staff were nice, but the server was soft spoken and really had nothing to say about anything. He had no questions for us other than "Do you want dessert?". There weren't too many people there, and yet the manager didn't even check on how's we're doing through the 2.5 hours we were there. If he had asked me, during my meal, "How's the food?", I would have given him this feedback.

The place is reasonably priced, but only if the food was of better quality.

I didn't try the drinks, but my colleagues said they were pretty good! And I saw they were presented very well.

Overall, I doubt we'll be back here...

On a recent visit my wife and I experienced several concerning issues with our meal and the service provided. We ordered prawns for my wife. Before her prawns were served, she asked if they had heads on them. Upon confirming that they did, she requested for the heads to be removed. However, the Chef refused. Eventually, the waiter offered to remove the heads before serving them. My wife accepted this offer. Upon tasting the prawns, my wife noted a burnt flavor and found them unpalatable. She left three out of the four prawns uneaten. Additionally, I ordered the lamb souvlaki and spanakopita. The spanakopita was overwhelmingly doughy with barely any filling, while the lamb souvlaki was small and also had a burnt taste. At the end of our meal, the waiter inquired if we were satisfied. My wife expressed her dissatisfaction with the prawns and explained why. The waiter conferred with the Chef, who claimed that no other customers had complained about the prawns. Despite this, my wife requested a full or partial refund due to the burnt taste of the prawns. The waiter offered to deduct $22, which was half the cost of the prawns. However, when reviewing our receipt at home, we discovered a $23 holiday surcharge that was never advertised or communicated to us. We believe this additional charge was applied to offset the discount, effectively negating any goodwill gesture. This experience left us deeply upset, and we will not return to your establishment. Furthermore, we will advise our friends to avoid patronizing your restaurant. We hope this feedback will be taken seriously to improve your service and ensure other customers do not encounter similar issues.

🌟✨🌟✨🌟 **5 Stars for George's Mediterranean in Sydney!** Where do I even begin? George's Mediterranean is an absolute gem in the heart of Sydney, and my experience here was nothing short of magical. From the warm, inviting ambiance to the impeccable service, every detail was perfect. But let’s talk about the real star of the show—**the Strawberry Caprioscars made by the legendary duo, Louis and Terry.** Oh. My. Goodness. These desserts are a masterpiece! Each bite was a symphony of flavors—sweet, tangy, and utterly divine. The strawberries were fresh and juicy, perfectly complemented by the delicate layers of creamy, dreamy goodness. Louis and Terry are true artists; their passion and skill shine through in every detail of this dessert. It’s not just a dish; it’s an experience. The rest of the menu is equally impressive, with authentic Mediterranean flavors that transport you straight to the shores of the Aegean. The staff are attentive, friendly, and genuinely care about making your visit special. If you’re in Sydney, do yourself a favor and visit George's Mediterranean. Order the Strawberry Caprioscars, thank Louis and Terry for their brilliance, and prepare to be wowed. This place deserves all the stars and more! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Thank you, George's Mediterranean, for an unforgettable dining experience. I’ll be back soon!
