Great Southern Bar — Restaurant in Sydney

Down Haymarket way there ain't a lot of bars or pubs to choose from and this one is located reasonably enough near Central Station and the light rail runs right out front.

Beer prices are probably the cheapest around the Sydney CBD. If you happen to get there around happy hour its even cheaper still. There is also a small number of tables just outside the entry to the venue and mainly high bar stool and tables inside.

You can also order food at the front bar and there is a largish table and seating area which truth be told reminds me of an old school bistro at the rear of the bar (entry is via the left hand side).

The food is also well priced and reasonably good for pub standard.

They also host trivia there on Wed evenings which generally brings in the crowds as well.

Upstairs there is accommodation which you can also book online for if you want to stay about town. Not stayed there so can't comment so recommend you do your homework first.

All in all a real good spot for a drinks with a friend, groups and really well priced. You won't get anything flash that's offered in areas like say Wynyard and the Rocks but then again you won't get slugged the hefty price tag that goes...

A good lunch place that does typical pub food with a few high end gourmet dishes. Tap water available at the bar.

Order food and drinks at the bar at the bar. You are issued with a number select a table in the pub or the classier restaurant out the back. The food is brought to the table.

I have been here several times with groups of work people.

Excellent customer service and problem management.

The one time I had a bad dish, I didn't eat the main part of the dish but ate all the vegies. I didn't want to make a fuss, but when the staff member cleared they asked me what the problem was, I told them. They offered to cook another meal but I didn't have time so they prepared me a quick takeaway pack. The quality of a restaurant is shown when you have a problem and they notice and fix it. 17/04/2025 Around 8:30pm Security so rude , I always come here for hit machine many time sometimes come with my scooter but no problem But today Security say to me YOU HAVE TO MOVE OUT SCOOTER NOW!! And i said I almost finish it that ok i finish this and will go and He say NOW! I like what?!? I just 7$ left in machine will finish soon anyways and then he walk aways so finish and i go move my scooter but my friend not finish yet so i wait my friend i think just 2 min and he tell me U HAVE TO GO NOW!! i said i go soon my friend will finish now i wait my friend He said I CANT WAIT U HAVE TO GO OUT NOW . The way he said is soooo rude his sound when say it . No more Great Southern 👎🏼 Ps. All staff here so good But this is already second time...
