We decided on the Cubic Escape Room specifically to try a different themed room, the space themed room (Project Delta), and because other reviewers had praised the use of technology and story. I can say that the story is not just context, but is relevant throughout the game and to the puzzles, which is great. However, the acting and dialogue in the video story segments was questionable. The technology is in various forms and is interactive and interesting. However, we wouldn’t do any more rooms at Cubic, as overall, the whole experience had a low quality feel to it. It starts upon the entry to the premise, which is the end of a dodgy urine smelling alleyway in Hay Market. Reception is on the 1st floor had a budget feel, and the floor doesn’t look like it’s been vacuumed in a while. The fitout quality of the Delta rooms is also low quality and had a DIY look and feel. E.g. the robot was a series of stacked boxes with DIY decoration and a light in the centre. Panels were not metal, but silver contact. Sticky tape had been used to join to panels on a wall. Stars and planets are painted on the black walls of the space ship? Finally, the gamemaster was very difficult to understand (which brings the experience down) and I had to ask her to repeat several times. E.g. at one stage we thought she was saying “error”, but on the third time we worked out she was saying “arrow”. My recommendation is to skip this low quality/DIY business and go 50m up George St to ‘Escape This’, which has new escape rooms that have been professionally built.

Came to Cubic Escape Room for the second time, and once again—blown away. Out of all the horror-themed escape rooms I’ve tried in Sydney, Soul Catcher easily stands out for its design, story, and atmosphere. This isn’t just your typical “lights off and scream” kind of room—it’s beautifully crafted with a real narrative behind it. The pacing, puzzles, and tension are all well balanced. The setting is super immersive—everything from the lighting to the sound pulls you deeper into its twisted world. If you’re looking for a micro-horror room with style, intensity, and a storyline that sticks with you, Soul Catcher is the one.

Cubic escape staffs are the bestI booked the soul catcher theme room and have asked if they can give my partner a surprise by presenting a cake to him a day before and they agree! I know the theme is a horror theme but I know we would love the twist done by cubic staffs. I leave it for them to figure out how to send the cake out for the birthday surprise and everyone loves the surprise!!!! Big applause to cubic staffs and all the arrangement! Love it! Always come back when there is a new game room! I have unlocked all games at cubic. We rocks. Haha enjoy so much, live actor is sweating in such cold weather too!

Review from a team who did 100+ escape rooms.

Short: Bad English Non conventional escape room / no idea what to do and why. Project Delta vs Recording Device worse room but less annoying. Reused riddles in both rooms and riddles in one room... Press a button riddle Ok tech, nicely put together but not always working...

Staff really need to improve their English, employ fluent / natives or just come up with on screen hint system etc. When the challenge to understand the hint is harder than the flue itself is just a horrible experience

We did Recording Device as first room with them, it wasn't classic escape room where you had escape... You play characters and you have to do something. The problem is we didn't understand what do we have to do, we went to the room we had no idea what do we need to do / what's our objective.

Project Delta has the story like, played from a video (decent English, easy to understand, we knew what we are doing). I feel like they were running out of ideas to finish this one. I think the Recording Device is a better room but probably had more fun playing Project Delta as we understood what we are doing and why.

When we were there they only had 2 rooms and one riddle was kind of reused in the 2nd room, one room had 2 reused riddles in the same room, for the first time when you had to figure out how to do something it's fun but 8f you have to do almost exactly the same to open 2nd door half an hour later - it's just annoying.

I haven't seen the "riddle" : 'hold this button for 10s' to open the lock for few years now, but this one has it! I don't understand why people still do it.

Overall the rooms are well built, nothing obvious like cables or mechanism sticking out attracting attention, doesn't look cheap. However we had an incident that we solved a riddle and something supposed to fall down so we can use it but it didn't, so GM had to come to our room and give us the item, we didn't wait long so probably well know...

Thorough review for all rooms are below but Cubic escape rooms are some of the best designed rooms in Sydney, the team has put a lot of effort into all the details and props, you really get transported to the story of the game you're playing. It's clear that the team at Cubic love their art and take so much pride and care to their games. The team are also some of the friendliest people I've met, never rushing us through the game and always happy to answer any questions we had about puzzles or the storyline, and making sure we had a 5 star experience.

The Recording Device The first room I did and it's a different experience as there is definitely more focus on roleplay and murder mystery, think being a character of your own detective story. There isn't as many puzzles as the others but you get to play the role of an investigator which was an unique experience though I think this room is better with a larger group.

Project Delta One of the most high tech rooms in Sydney, where there are no locks and is purely mechanical and also has a lot of really unique puzzles I've never done before! This is a room that really forces you to think outside of box and is a great challenge.

The Soul Catcher A horror room with live actors! This room transports you into the story with the set design and so much attention to detail has been placed into how the game looks you forget you're in a a building in Haymarket. The scares were solid and the puzzles we're interesting.

Memento The only escape room that left me in tears (in a good way), it's a beautiful storyline that really tugs at your heartstrings but also had a good range of challenging puzzles. This was a room where I just wanted to focus on exploring every element of the story. Not the hardest room in terms of difficulty by perfect for families or...

TLDR: Top quality rooms that are extremely well done and one of the best escape rooms I have completed. Don't let earlier reviews more than 5 months ago deter you.

Edit: 13/09/2022 - Just completed Recording Device and it's one of the most immersive experiences I have had in a while. With a twist that got me alongside the Project Delta twist. Shoutout to XY? (I didn't get your name) but was superhelpful during the room and was very respectful. You can tell that the people that run these room - really care about escape rooms and want to make an experience tailored to each person.

Just completed Project Delta and it being their hardest room (5/5) - it is both well made and very thought provoking with a twist that stuck with me even an hour afterwards (as I sit here writing this review).

Unfortunately I didn't catch the name of our Games Master but he was extremely tentative, offering water and guiding us very well through the instructions. He offered helpful tips when we got stuck without revealing too much and it really kept the immersion.

I can wholeheartedly say this is one of the best rooms I have completed in a VERY long time and is easily in the Top 5 escape rooms I have done in Sydney.

If I had one criticism - it would probably to have those LCD Portable Writing Pads that reset with a tap of a button. We had a whiteboard and marker with the latter running out of ink but to be honest, I am just nit-picking and it isn't a big deal.

I HIGHLY recommend this room - I will be back for the Recording Device and Soul Catcher (with more people...
