il Chooko Charcoal Chicken — Restaurant in Sydney

We love going out for dinner. It is one of our favourite things to do. However, in the current climate where we are encouraged to socially isolate, the best possible solution at the moment is takeaway or delivery. We ordered takeaway from il Chooko Charcoal Chicken, located inside the South Maroubra Shopping Village at 3 Meagher Avenue, South Maroubra. Il Chooko serves food all day, so you can grab a coffee and breakfast to go, lunch or dinner. For breakfast, you might like a bacon (or sausage), a big breakfast, or even eggs benedict. Their menu also includes bbq chicken, salads, chips, burgers, wraps and even snack packs. Their village snack pack is topped with melted mozzarella, meat and drizzled with tahini, bbq and chilli sauce. Drink wise, they have milkshakes and coffees. We ordered a half chicken with a range of salads as well as a medium fries and a chicken wrap. The chicken wrap was filled with chicken off the bone and filled with garlic sauce, hummus, tabbouleh, tahina and BBQ sauce. The food was delicious and the perfect meal when you don’t want to cook. Attempting to order in advance tonight, we tried to call the store at 7, do not have a phone number listed if no one is going to answer it. Went to order food tonight at 7:40, checked they were open before I came into the store as it is a while away. As soon as my friend and I walked into the store we were rudely yelled at by one of the staff members saying “ONLY CHIPS AND CHICKEN”. Wanting a snack pack we asked for one considering it is chips and chicken then were screamed at again only chips and chicken. When the disrespectful girl at the front doesn’t specify what chicken they even have in confusion we ask them what time they close. We were then told 7:30, yet google says that they close at 8. Mortified by this “service” we left and will not be returning. Do not leave the doors open if you are closed and yell at customers in an angry tone. I have to admit, their slogan of ‘best charcoal chicken in the eastern suburb or your money’ is on the money; I have NOT ever returned their chicken.

It is fresh (not like other shops where cooked birds sit in the heat box sweating), juicy and perfectly cooked. The smoke favour on the skin is the best since the invention of ‘white slice bread’ and certainly mouth watering. It pairs perfectly with their homemade garlic dip.

Their sides of salads; how can I not mention the roasted cauliflower, and freshly cooked chips on order, make you feel you are dining like the gods! YUMMY!!!
